  1. Here's a link to an older post on bodybuilding and celiac: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/70373-body-building-success/
  2. Coffee is gluten free; however, if you are a "newbie", caffeine can cause symptoms (certainly 8 to 10 cups a day). Open Original Shared Link
  3. Sorry, to say that you'll be "prepping" the entire 4th. All day long you'll be required to consume only clear liquids like broth, jello, Gatoraide (lemon or orange), Popsicles (no red, berry or grape), soda, tea or coffee (no creamers). by 5:00 pm, you'll start the meds and will be visiting the bathroom a lot. Have plenty of books on hand, or an ipad!...
  4. Yes, it could be thyroid related. But, have you read the side effects of the hydrochlorothyozide? It sounds like it could interfere with your thyroid or be adding new symptoms (e.g. muscle pain, weakness, etc.) It would be worth researching. Read the manufacturer info sheets and Google the drug and thyroid. Others may have experienced the same issues...
  5. I tested high for cow's milk casein and whey about 15 years ago). Strict avoidance is your best bet. Eventually, (hopefully), your body will "calm" down and you might be able to consume tiny amounts (by mistake). I don't have to worry about cc in the kitchen with milk as I do with gluten. Although I'm allergic to lots of things, I rarely use antihistamines...
  6. I haven't been there in years, but I'm sure their gluten free items are pre-packaged/frozen. In that case, you might be better off bringing your own muffins or brownies as 1) they'll taste better and 2) you'll save cash! Let's face it, Magic Mountain isn't on the same level as Disneyland. I'd be concerned about cross-contamination.
  7. Ah, it's not the coffee, but I use soymilk as a creamer.
  8. Yes, you can have hyper symptoms that fast as stated on the drug insert page. Like Gemini said, you'll have to play around with the dosage. During a hypo period my doctor wanted to slowly increase my dosage to avoid becoming hyper. He even increased my dosage just on the weekends, and it helped! (At least I haven't become hyper in 6 months!) I...
  9. I'm still a newbie (two months) and I"m struggling with anemia, perimenopause and a thyroid that's swinging from hyper to hypo, so I can relate. I take lots of little mini-breaks. I've also learned to say, "No!"
  10. So, sorry to hear about the flooding!
  11. I've been taking Armour Thyroid for almost 20 years and have done well on it. It is gluten free and I don't think there's a cross contamination issue. Your dosing might not be the same or comparable to levothyroxine. It sounds like your symptoms are hyper (I get muscle weakness and anxiety). I've been both hyper and hypo for the past year. What dosage...
  12. But, wash them well! I glutened myself after making Annie's mac and cheese for my daughter. There must have been some residue. Anyway, I have saved one pot and one pan for my daughter and put some duct tape on the handles of the pans, her one old wooden spoon and a flipper. She has one colander to use for her mac and cheese. But, honestly, it's rare...
  13. Wow! I've looked at your other postings and can see you been through so much. It struck me hard, as my Aunt had the same issues as you. It's a family gallbladder curse that may or may not be linked to celiac disease. My gallbladder has been removed, but I occasionally have the same symptoms of a non-functioning gallbladder (passed out and spent two days...
  14. "Still use no milk but do use cheese periodically and butter." If you have an allergy or intolerance to dairy (milk proteins: casein and whey), then eating butter and cheese is the same as drinking milk. That could be part of the problem. "I do have children and grand children that have been diagnosed celiac. with other intolerances as well. " ...
  15. Not sure about the peppermint tea for kids, but it's good for adults. Ibuprofen or Tylenol are safe choices for most kids. I'd try Tylenol first.
  16. Careful! No aspirin for kids and that includes Pepto Bismol (contains aspirin) to avoid Reye's Syndrome (can be very dangerous).
  17. Excellent advice, Greenbeanie! When my daughter woke up with an itchy rash after a course of antibiotics for strep, she needed to see a doctor. Our doctor's office doesn't pickup the phone for appointments until 9:00 am. Having once had an early appointment at 7:30 am, I knew the office was open and that some doctors (maybe not ours) would be in....
  18. I'm currently training for a century ride in November and have been gluten-free for two months now. However, I have many food allergies and haven't had any issues training in past years despite iron deficiency anemia and Thalassemia. Let me stress that I'm not out to win even in my age category! I do eat gluten-free grains, plenty of carbs! For breakfast...
  19. First I bought some Redbridge (yuck!) I couldn't even drink more that one sip! My memories of good beer are too fresh. Then I bought some potato vodka thinking that I'd mix it with juice from our backyard tangerine and orange trees. I was just a month or so into the diet and I don't think my body was ready for alcohol either! So, I'm sticking with juices...
  20. As long as you feel comfortable that your daughter KNOWS which foods are safe for her, I'd encourage her to go. I'd also send snacks for everyone and skip dinner. I typically send a big bowl of homemade popcorn, fruit or gluten-free cookies (that's all I bake) for sleepovers or Girl Scouts since we have a girl who's allergic to milk and nuts (and the hosting...
  21. It might not be a lactose intolerance, but a milk allergy instead. Allergy tests indicated that I was allergic to milk proteins (e.g. casein). This occurred well before I was diagnosed with celiac disease. You can develop allergies at any time. Strict avoidance (in all forms, e.g. cheese) is your best bet. Then see how you feel.
  22. If you don't think you've developed food intolerances/allergies (mine are odd like mushrooms and garlic), then not to alarm you, but have you checked out symptoms for Ovarian Cancer? Abdominal bloating and gas are the main symptoms. Chances are you don't have it, but it's best to play it safe.
  23. Maybe the dental treatments the site is referring to are items like self-whitening kits and not treatments at the dentist.
  24. Yes, my thyroid has been burning itself out. It's almost completely trashed. Everything's in range except for my TSH which is at a 4. Still much too high. I'm best around a 2. I'm waiting to see if being gluten-free (it's been 10 weeks) will allow my thyroid meds (I take Armour) to be absorbed. Have been hypo for the past six months. It's slowing coming...
  25. Hmmm.... I attributed my iron deficiency anemia to celiac disease and not to my Hashi's. I do have another anemia -- Thalassemia. It's genetic and can't do much about that so I've always been slightly or mildly anemic and can never get my hemoglobin levels in the normal range. But the iron deficiency anemia really compounds things and when my hemoglobin...
