ARCHIVED Organic Foods Threatened
Felidae replied to ginghamkim's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I learned about GMO's in several of my classes, one of them being Botany. It sure is a very interesting topic. Europe has a completely different viewpoint than the US and Canada. -
ARCHIVED What Can I Drink?
Felidae replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Disorono (sp?), the expensive brand of amaretto is safe. -
Could you possibly be reacting to dairy or soy? Or maybe some other type of food intolerance. It may benefit you to keep a food diary for a while and see if different foods cause different bm's.

ARCHIVED Smirnoff
Felidae replied to Prairie Girl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Like I said PG, you are in Saskatchewan, Canada so Smirnoff Ice is fine. They don't put malt in the Canadian version since our taste buds are apparently different and we prefer the no-malt taste. -
ARCHIVED Smirnoff
Felidae replied to Prairie Girl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It all depends on your location. In the USA Smirnoff Ice is not gluten free, but in Canada it is gluten free. So, you have to make sure you are contacting the Canadian Smirnoff and not the US Smirnoff. -
ARCHIVED Hardbite Potato Chips gluten-free?
Felidae replied to gabby's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There is a approximately a one year time span between the two company e-mails. Things have changed which is why I reposted this with the new response. I don't think Gibble is available up here where I live. -

ARCHIVED Hardbite Potato Chips gluten-free?
Felidae replied to gabby's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here is their response, We only produce potato chips in this entire facility. To be really safe, eat the Hardbite All Natural Chips. Hardbite All Natural flavor has only Himalayan crystal salt as a spice. No possible way of a cross contamination. Our other chip flavors recipes do not contain gluten either, but our spice mixing supplier may... -

ARCHIVED Hardbite Potato Chips gluten-free?
Felidae replied to gabby's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I normally only eat the plain Hardbite chips, but the store didn't have plain so I bought Jalapeno and Salt & Vinegar. I ate some of the Jalapeno and wasn't feeling too great. They have "spices" in the ingredients. I just looked at the ingredients of the Salt & Vinegar and it lists "malt vinegar." Oops, I guess I should have looked closer before... -
ARCHIVED The Most Delicious Home-made Gluten Free Bread I've Ever Tasted...
Felidae replied to mamatide's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
This is very true and is something my mom always tells me. LOL -
ARCHIVED Quinoa....yuck
Felidae replied to singingserena's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, always rinse quinoa. However, I buy Ancient Harvest brand which doesn't say to rinse. I've made great "oatmeal" cookies with the quinoa flakes which I did not rinse. -
ARCHIVED Are There Any Healthy, Dry Snacks?
Felidae replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You could make your own trailmix. Nuts, gluten-free pretzels, dried fruit, and whatever else you feel like adding. I am completely addicted to tortilla chips for as long as I have been gluten-free, so I know how you feel. -
ARCHIVED Cocoa ?
Felidae replied to georgie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
After one year of being gluten free I could have dairy again. So, there may be hope for you too. -
ARCHIVED The Most Delicious Home-made Gluten Free Bread I've Ever Tasted...
Felidae replied to mamatide's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My flax seeds were very coarsely ground, so yes you could definitely see them. I'm used to flax seed bread from Kinnikinnick, so it looks normal to me. I wouldn't think that olive oil subbed for veg oil would make a difference. I don't use guar gum so I'm not sure if the quantities are the same. What flour blend did you use? -
ARCHIVED General Bread Questions
Felidae replied to misoman's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Asian markets or the asian section of your grocery store are great places to buy rice and tapioca flours and starches for really cheap. Also, rice noodles and rice papers are super cheap there. You can buy wholesome flours at your health foods store (I know, more expensive) such as sorghum, amaranth, and quinoa. They are available in larger sized bags... -
ARCHIVED Favorite Sandwich Fillings With Laurie's Amazing Bread
Felidae replied to SandraNinTO's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
In Canada Freybe pre-packaged deli meats are gluten free. I had a Sol burger with melted Havarti, lettuce, tomato, mayo and mustard. I've also had peanut butter and homemade jam. Also, fried egg, scrambled eggs with veggies, or boiled eggs are all great on Laurie's bread. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease Or Cystic Fibrosis?
Felidae replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Back in the '70s when I was a youngster, they tested me for cystic fibrosis which luckily was negative, but did not test for celiac. If only they had tested me for celiac back then. I know, this is not very helpful, but I just wanted to share. -
ARCHIVED Monistat?
Felidae replied to LLatham's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You could ask a pharmacist. Sometimes they have info. behind the counter or they may know who to contact. -
ARCHIVED Raisins
Felidae replied to mollyacampbell's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've had problems with SunMaid raisins too. I don't know why they bother me though. -
ARCHIVED Good Example Of A Little Bit Of Knowlege Being Dangerous
Felidae replied to mamatide's topic in Publications & Publicity
I thought Rose Reisman was an American. LOL It really doesn't matter, except that her information is very wrong. She really shouldn't pretend to know things that she has not thoroughly informed herself on. -
ARCHIVED Are There Any Companies That Are Completely Gluten Free ?
Felidae replied to marciab's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am extremely sensitive, probably a 10. Keep a journal, to see if it is other ingredients you are reacting to. In the beginning of being gluten-free I couldn't eat dairy. It took about one year before I could eat dairy again. I also can only tolerate small amounts of tapioca. Hardbite chips are delicious. I've only had the plain ones and I have... -

You're right about gluten not being absorbed through the skin. I use gluten-free lotion because I'm always putting it on may hands and sometimes I'll put my finger in my mouth to bite off a hang nail.... It's just an extra precaution. -
Some of the Canus Goat's Milk soaps have wheat in them.

I don't hate being gluten intolerant because I think that it has actually forced me to eat healthier. However, I do hate the inconvenience of it. I think it has prevented me from applying for certain jobs. It has made me uneasy about travelling, which is something that I have always loved.
