Wow. That would be something, huh? For a long time he looked so bloated and doughy-faced and now he looks more healthy, but almost thinner than he should be. Although I haven't paid much attention lately because I don't follow politics much. I remember before I figured all this out my face was really doughy too. Now that would be a spokesperson...

ARCHIVED Anyone Ever Have Their Own Website?
Nantzie replied to debmidge's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My dad tossed around the idea of getting a few things patented at one time. We were actually lucky enough to get in email contact with someone in the department that was in charge of patent protection at a company that was well-known among inventors as being able to write and protect their patents very well. I can't recall the name of the company right... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Diet And Pain
Nantzie replied to pyoplasty's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had no idea it did that. Do you know if sparkling water does the same thing? I used to just mix fruit juice with sparkling water. I was thinking about going back to doing that instead of feeding my soda addiction. Pyoplasty, you're so sweet... I hope your brother comes and visits us here. I don't know how people do it without this group. ... -
ARCHIVED Preschool Owner With Celiac Child
Nantzie replied to strawberrygm's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was also going to ask where you were located. Folsom, CA by any chance? I think that working toward being an allergy-aware daycare is a great idea. I would pay more money for that in a heartbeat. Nancy -
Gluten-Free Pantry makes an excellent Angelfood Cake Mix. It is really amazing. I served it at a family dinner and everybody loved it. So it passes the non-celiac test. The secret to getting the height of any angelfood cake is to NEVER use a nonstick pan. Sometimes you have to go to a few stores to hunt one down. I would say that you'd probably...

ARCHIVED Juice Plus - Vitamin Supplement
Nantzie replied to Prairie Girl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I really wanted to start taking these too. They sound great and I have non-gluten-free friends who really like them. There was a discussion about this not too long ago. We react to cross contamination on cutting boards and can't just pick the croutons off a salad or take the bun off a burger. There is just no way they can be examining each and every... -
ARCHIVED Rant, Friend Problems..

Wow! It sounds like she's not capable of being a true friend to you. Don't hate her. Just understand that she isn't tough enough. You need and deserve friends who have the strength to weather the storms. Just because your storm has come at an early age doesn't mean their storms aren't coming. When your friends storms come, even if you can't really... -
I'm going to be going with my husband to a business conference in Palm Springs, in the Indian Wells area. I'm just wondering if anyone knows if there are any stores or restaurants in the area that have gluten-free food. My husband will be in meetings for most of the first two days, so I'll be on my own to explore and window shop. I'd love it if there...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Diet And Pain
Nantzie replied to pyoplasty's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow. I didn't realize how LONG my post was until someone quoted it. I know these replies are a lot to take in. We're glad you're here asking about it. I hope you don't feel stepped on. You haven't posted again, so I'm not sure if your brother is underweight or is dealing with malabsorption, but if he is, maybe you could send him a box of... -

I think you should treat this like an olive branch. Let her know of course you're happy for her. But you were really scared and needed support. Let her know how much you appreciate all the support she's given you. People who have good health really can't even comprehend what poor health really means. It's just beyond them. They're like cavemen... -
Since you're only about a week into the gluten-free diet, it does sound like detoxing could be the culprit. Maybe his body is reacting to the gluten that may still be in his system (?). It also could be some hidden gluten getting in. Sometimes right after you go gluten-free, people get ultra sensitive really quickly. It takes a while to learn all the...

ARCHIVED So What Do You Tell People?
Nantzie replied to chocolatelover's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If it's a restaurant I tell them I have celiac. They don't need to or want to know the details. I just need the same food accomodations as someone with celiac. If someone is just politely asking about it in casual conversation I say I have celiac. If someone who has a science or healthcare background asks, I say I have a condition that's... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Diet And Pain
Nantzie replied to pyoplasty's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For over two years I had pain so bad that I could barely walk - it would take me over two hours to do my grocery shopping and I would have to use the cart as a walker. When I came across celiac, I was actually planning on talking to my doctor about what I needed to do to get a handicapped placard for my car. Just basic things were getting to be too much... -
ARCHIVED Glutenease
Nantzie replied to wdwmaggie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There is no way on earth they would be able to prove that there is no damage without biopsies, doctors, specialists, hospitals and long-term studies. It sounds like this woman is excited because it helped her symptoms and wants to share, but celiac is much more complex than just symptoms. It's well-known that people with celiac can be completely asymptomatic... -
I'm not sure how it does, but somehow it just does sometimes. I had a slightly used, not scratched up (always handwashed it) teflon pan that I have never had problems with at all. I did throw away a couple that were really scratched up, which I probably should have pitched long before. Once you've been gluten-free for a while, you'll be able to tell...

ARCHIVED Negative Biopsy, Trying gluten-free Anyway
Nantzie replied to andreagrant's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Definitely... Doctors can be the worst part of any of this. I think there is such a difference between a doctor who just sees patients and doesn't further his knowledge, and a doctor who is truely interested in keeping up on current research. Add ego and a god-complex that some of them seem to develop and it's ridiculous. I love my doctor.... -

I'm sorry your tests were such a pain in the @$$. Sorry, I couldn't help myself. I hope they have some new answers for you. That's so great that you don't have to go all the way back for the results. Nancy -
ARCHIVED How Strange My Life Has Become!
Nantzie replied to GeoffCJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The other day, one of my friends asked me about HER bowel movements. I've crossed over from poop-conscious to poop guru. She had noticed a change that concerned her, and after several questions about length of time it had been happening (less than a week ), diet changes, frequency, color, floatability, etc., I told her that it was probably something... -

ARCHIVED Department-store Quality Skincare?
Nantzie posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We just moved into our new house and my goodness but the lighting in the bathroom is much better here. I tried covering with makeup, but it just showed how bad my skin has gotten. Not blotchy or blemishy, but I've never really taken good care of it and it's starting to show. I'm just wondering what everyone else here uses for skincare. I'm thinking... -
ARCHIVED Negative Biopsy, Trying gluten-free Anyway
Nantzie replied to andreagrant's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sounds to me like you got glutened on day 6. Getting glutened is very easy and sometimes you don't even know where it came from. I haven't knowingly eaten gluten for over a year, and I still get glutened a couple times a month. It just gets you sometimes even if you do all your own cooking. I usually figure out where it came from, but there have... -
ARCHIVED My Very Good Friend

Steve - I'm so glad you're back home. Your mom sounds so much like my grandma it's not even funny. I can totally relate. Hopefully she has realized some things, even if she may not admit anything. Nancy
