  1. You're moving out??? I must have missed something. Details please. That's great. You must be looking forward to having some breathing room. Nancy
  2. I had one of those big shaker containers of the dry mix in the back of my pantry. I called on it just this morning. They said that it had "trace amounts of gluten". So I'll be giving it away. Nancy
  3. It took me a while to get my daughter tested for the stool test. But as soon as I had that realization, like DUH! She's having symptoms! I was right on it. But when her results came back positive, even though I was expecting it, it made me feel so sad and so guilty that I had done this to her. It's so illogical. I'm thrilled that I got diagnosed...
  4. They have a gluten stool test only for $99. The shipping and handling is $20, but that's because you need to ship "the sample" back to them overnight express. I did that test for my 4yo daughter, which came back positive, and just sent the sample to them for my son this week. I should know his results in 2-3 weeks. My daughter has been gluten...

    ARCHIVED Glutened?

Yep, cross contamination is what kicks your booty. Not eating the bread or whatever is the easy part. I ended up switching over to stainless steel pans. They're actually way easier to deal with than nonstick or anything else. Nonstick gets scratched up SO easily. With stainless, I've found that it's even easier to clean. You can just scrub the...
  6. I'm hoping I'm not sensitive to anything else... I make cream sauces all the time with no symptoms whatsoever. So I'm pretty sure it's not casein. Maybe it was limited cross-contamination in manufacturing. This is the only bag I ever had that bothered me. I've trashed that bag. I'll have to try them again at some point and see if I still have a...
  7. It seems to be related for me. When I get glutened, for the next few days I'm SO cold. Not just to the touch, like my feet and hands, but I feel like I can't get warm on the inside. I'm so cold, it almost hurts. Cold all the way down to my bones... When I can't get warm enough, I go sit in a hot bath until I feel warm again. Or if I don't have time...
  8. Actually I pretty much figured the gluten thing out on my own. At the time though (not any more) my husband thought I was a hypochondriac and that I'd finally gone off the deep end thinking that I had some bizarre disease. So I went through enterolab because the blood tests and biopsy are so unreliable. I did actually get the blood tests and biopsy, which...
  9. I got glutened by a Butterfinger last night. Nightmares and everything. I had suspected it in a glutening about a month ago, but figured maybe I just didn't wash my hands before I ate it? So last night I decided to have another one (from the same bag of fun size bars I got the one from last month out of). Bad idea. Very, very bad idea. Has anyone...
  10. YES!!! I was constantly hungry before I went gluten-free. I was either eating, or actively forcing myself not to eat. If I wasn't overweight and worrying about gaining more weight at the time, I would have been eating all the time. My 4yo daughter was also constantly hungry. It didn't occur to me to worry about it because they say that kids go through...

    ARCHIVED Glutened?

Have you gone gluten-free with your personal care products? Check your haircare products, lip balms, lotions, cosmetics, etc. Does your boyfriend/husband use lip balm, shampoo, lotion that has gluten in it? Anything you touch with gluten in/on it, if you then touch your mouth or eat without washing your hands first, can get into your system. Also...
  12. So have you found out when you're getting your results? Nancy
  13. I did a search to see if I could find a list on the types of arthritis and found a link for you -- Open Original Shared Link They say that there are over 100 types of arthritis. This looks like a very thorough list with a lot of different links. I hope you're feeling better soon. One of my symptoms is pain, so I can sympathize... It...
  14. I would find a way to get his number, tell him that you have some food "allergies", and that you'll supply the cooler with the food and drinks. Here's a way to spin it so that it's laid back now, but might be cute later -- Just tell him that you're so used to having "food allergies", and it's such a normal part of your life, that it didn't occur to you...
  15. Timber (and everyone else!) -- I'm glad this topic popped up again. I really want to do this. I'm just overwhelmed by the price and that it's two years ahead. I wonder if that's why there wasn't much definite interest, and maybe we could address that. I've only been on one cruise, but I remember a friend of mine a long time ago got on a payment...
  16. I can't wait until I see an informational commercial about celiac. "If you have these symptoms, see your doctor." But right now, a lot of doctors are still uninformed and might just blink at you if you say celiac. I'm hoping that the NIH's campaign to educate doctors and other healthcare workers is going well. The grassroots information is sure spreading...
  17. I think you should do the endoscopy. When I had mine done, I was already gluten-free for about three weeks, with only limited gluten for months before that (once I figured out it was a problem . I knew they weren't going to find any damage. But I'm glad he did the endoscopy anyway because now I know that there's nothing else going on in there. My...
  18. Gluten intolerant, two genes, both DQ1 subtype 6. My reaction is within about 15 minutes to half an hour. It runs everything from stomach pain and bathroom issues to irritability and headaches, and whole body pain that makes me feel like one big cramp where I can't even stand up straight. If I get glutened in the evening, I'll get weird insomnia and...
  19. I was going to second Nini's vote for Pamela's Amazing Wheat Free Bread, but it looks like I'm thirding it. BTW, Amazon sells it in a box of six packages for $20!!! I ordered two boxes. I'm not sure how much shipping is because I'm an Amazon Prime member and get free two-day shipping. Open Original Shared Link .com/Pamelas-Products/dp/.....
  20. I got a response this morning! In one part I thought she was saying that they only had one non-gluten-free meal (where I counted 5) , but when I re-read more closely, she was saying they only had one meal that had meat in it that also had gluten in it, as part of discussing the kosher rules. I'm going to post about this also in it's own topic so that...
  21. Elonwy - I have a friend whose parents are from Hawaii. I think she has gluten intolerance, at the least. She's been keeping a close eye on the food I eat, and is starting to be more open to maybe trying going gluten-free to see what happens. Now that I know Spam is gluten-free, and she can have all those nostalgic recipes, I'm sure she'll be one step...
  22. 2kids, that should be in a book. That totally made me cry. What a beautiful sight that must have been. They need to do Chicken Soup for the Celiac Soul. Nancy
  23. For a lot of people (me for sure) the hardest part of this is having to make a fuss about your food, or share the details of your symptoms or how strict you have to be with your food. And even the disease itself sounds like it can't be true. If you have people in your life that think you're making it up or exagerating, sometimes you just kind of give up...
  24. This is the third thread on gluten-free camping or mre's that I've read today. We all must have our minds on enjoying the last few weeks of summer. I just looked up gluten-free MRE's for another thread (those pre-packed meals that they have in the military) and they actually HAVE THEM. www.myownmeals.com They're not really MREs (they're in a...
