ARCHIVED 4 Year Old With Stomach Issues And Damage But Not Diagnosed Celiac?
Di2011 replied to hbelle16's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi hbelle16, I am so relieved that you got a second, and BETTER opinion. So many posts on here talk about children not necessarily having "damage" when biopsied. You are a good mum and you have done the right thing. Don't let people get away with telling you that gluten free is expensive or difficult. Keep your meals simple and fresh with lots of calories... -
ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
Di2011 replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
oh how I wish I lived in sydney right now.. Canberra seems like a backwater when it comes to gluten free options!! Does anyone have any suggestions for Aussie online stores? I know there are lots but products are all so different and price is wonky. -
ARCHIVED Help Please - Is This Dh? Nasty Rash On My Lips
Di2011 replied to cap6's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Have you checked make up? Sunscreens? Toothpaste? My skin doesn't like xanthan gum (E412) so you might want to check for it also. It sounds like a classic food allergy reaction. My sons face was like that a couple of weeks ago. I suspect wheat but we are still working it out. You might want to consider having a week or two on a very simple diet of fresh... -
ARCHIVED Psychological Effect Of Extreme Fatigue.
Di2011 replied to Susandeoliveira's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been on this forum for a while and read lots and my answer would be yes. I also have had some experience with friends/colleagues who have military and dealing with severe disability work related PTS and again I would say yes. Mild in comparison but still the same "response/protection" mechanisms. Although illness/work related PTS etc may not seem... -
ARCHIVED I'm Really Sad Tonight But .. Better Than 30 Years Itchy
Di2011 replied to Di2011's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Liam is much better tonight. He has had a reasonable amount to eat today and drinking plenty. I still don't know how to handle his grandma (my mum) though. Even today she was all about getting "carbs" into him because he has been sick and not eating. How do you change a woman who is in 80's mode wrt diet?! Ages ago I made gluten free pizza for Liam and... -
ARCHIVED I'm Really Sad Tonight But .. Better Than 30 Years Itchy
Di2011 replied to Di2011's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Thanks Roda. Liam is coming around to the idea and he is a lot like your son - doesn't matter too much what others think. As soon as he is over his current illness I will make him a very yummy gluten-free pizza! -

ARCHIVED I'm Really Sad Tonight But .. Better Than 30 Years Itchy
Di2011 replied to Di2011's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Thanks everyone! It is so nice to get some realistic advice. Liam fell ill the past few days. D on Thurs night, skipped school Friday, Friday night throat infection/bad asthma, Sat to Monday morning vomiting. He hasn't eaten anything since Friday night but he is getting much better today. :) Saw the doctor yesterday (Sun) and mentioned that we both suspected... -
ARCHIVED Things Were Going So Well
Di2011 replied to stanleymonkey's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi stanleymonkey, I so so wish I could help I think you would have got a response from our regular forum but combining weekend and timing I *hope* this post will jump your post back up so that our regular gurus respond. Also consider posting something on "coping with" as the real serious gurus may not be parents or it was long ago. In the mean time... -
ARCHIVED Dh After Going Gluten Free? Dr. Says Not Possible
Di2011 replied to Jortyle's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hi NewsyNanette, I'm so sorry to hear about your mum. Doesn't ever matter how they go - just hard when they are gone It is so interesting to hear your story. I too believe that topical and ingestion are a problem for my skin. I go through so many disposible gloves I think I keep the company in business! Bicarb has been my saviour for cleaning/bathing... -
ARCHIVED Freaking Out, Can't Figure Out What's Causing Itchies In My Son
Di2011 replied to amberskids's topic in Super Sensitive People
Xanthan gum (e415) is a killer for me too. It is in a lot of gluten-free processed foods. Guar gum (e412) is a usual replacement but I haven't been brave enough to test. I avoid any processed products with the 400's at the moment until my DH is under control enough to go public and control my sanity! -
ARCHIVED Dh Or No Celiac? I Am Soo Confused.
Di2011 replied to lil'chefy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do you remember specifically what your DH was like? Can you describe it? Describe how you felt or lived with it? Given you have other issues that +could+ be gluten related, why don't you just try gluten free? It isn't expensive if you do it sensibly and minimise processed food. It won't harm you if you keep your vits/mins in check with variety of food... -
:D :D :D Eat well and safe and I hope you don't have multiples!!! I spent time with friends today who have 19month old twin girls and man what a handful

ARCHIVED Freaking Out, Can't Figure Out What's Causing Itchies In My Son
Di2011 replied to amberskids's topic in Super Sensitive People
Raisins and dried fruit makes my itching very bad. Felt like my skin was burning too. It is relatively temporary compared to when I have too much iodine or glutened. Wish you luck.. poor little fella. -
ARCHIVED Son With Dh Dx Should I Bother With Testing?
Di2011 replied to amberskids's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Has you doctor noted on your medical records that diagnosis of DH? If so then I personally would take that as being an official diagnosis. Get a copy of those records for future reference - for him as well as yourself. -
ARCHIVED Cold Weather Makes Me Hungry...
Di2011 replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am in Canberra, Australia so we are unusual for the foreigners assumptions of Australia. Today is early Dec ie Summer and I am wearing a jumper/coat. We are high altitude and subject to the Antartic / South oceans weather pattern. I'm hungry   -
I also hate all the cooking, washing up etc but be thankful for your health. Tell us more about what led you to this forum? Where do you live? What is the level of "gluten free" understanding in your area? Do you own a slow cooker ((I couldn't live without it)). How do you prepare your foods. Tell us more and those members that are more like your lifestyle...

May depend on your symtpoms. For us DH/skin problem members it seems to be often essential. I can't even use bandaids because I have a terrible reaction - presumably because of gluten containing ingredients in the adhesive. I can't even tolerate gums but that is very unusual ( but not so unusual for sensitive/skin sensitive glutenfree folk ). I'd recommend...

ARCHIVED Severity Of Symptoms 12+ After Going gluten-free
Di2011 replied to beebs's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Roda / Beebs, My upper thighs and bum were the worst of all places for my all over DH. I'm not formally diagnose but doc agrees it can't be anything else and all ((sllllooooowwwly)) clearing gluten free and iodine low. I still have some lesions in those places It is as you infer, beebs, from your sons experience. Intensely itchy and seem "deep"... -
