ARCHIVED "old" Test Results To Diagnose Celiac
answerseeker replied to Aveirah's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It can develop at any age, that is why my children will have to be tested every year. My 8 year old tested negative but he could test postive next year. I developed mine at age 39 but suspect it runs in my family. My Grandfather died of colon cancer and I have an aunt and an uncle with type 1 diabities but they haven't been tested for Celiac even though they... -

ARCHIVED Do You Take Your Celiac Disease Seriously?

Right. We do it to prevent colds and flu. I wouldn't touch a dirty bus seat then touch my mouth even if I didn't have celiac! Gross -

The admins should pin a list of "celiac myths" like the newbie 101 thread. I think a lot of people come here with misinformation, including myself! -
ARCHIVED Do You Take Your Celiac Disease Seriously?
answerseeker replied to GF Lover's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Very true! The only other intolerance I've developed is dairy. Hoping it stays that way lol. I think I would be lost without rice :-) Although I had cramping yesterday after eating eggs. This morning i have a little rash but not horrible. But my hubby made them and he used a Tupperware container to mix them that was used for storing gluten foods. Hoping... -

I came across a you tube video saying that celiac is caused by use of antibiotics! And another one about cross reactivity. There is a lot of misinformation out there. If it wasn't for this forum and the books that were recommended to me from you guys, I would be so confused about what I could eat! Now I know some do have problem with corn, I don't, but... -

Thank you! Very helpful. I wonder about seasonings/flavorings so I would much rather buy from brands that put it right on the label -

ARCHIVED Started With Stomach Spasms & Internal 'throbbing' Again!
answerseeker replied to flowerqueen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your certain your not getting cc'd? My gurgling has completely stopped as well as the spasms since going gluten free but if I get cc'd or have dairy it comes right back! -
your still eating gluten right? you need to be eating gluten for the test to be accurate. don't be scared of the biopsy, we have all done it and you don't even know it's happening. you are given a sedative and I don't remember anything! the only thing I had was a little sore throat after. I had to have an endometrial biopsy and that was far worse. ...

and you haven't been tested? thyroid issues are very common in celiac and you already have all the GI symptoms. sounds like you have some GERD going on as well. I suffered from that and had the difficulty swallowing with it, that could probably be the reason for you getting short of breath. I was diagnosed with asthma, moderate persistent, and it doesn't...

I get the white froth after eating a meal with fats (healthy fats too) if I eat avocado I get it too. For me it is related to my celiac, as I am not absorbing fats. So I get floating frothy oily stools (sorry tmi) It could very well be a symptom of fat malabsorbtion do you have other symptoms? I think IBS could cause that but we all know IBS is just a...

ARCHIVED Got My Bone Density Test Results Today
answerseeker replied to answerseeker's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I need to go back next week for a hip scan because I have been having hip problems since I gave birth to my son. (he is now 8 and it never went away) They are going to make sure there is no hairline fracture going on. It's hard to say when my bones lost density because I was just diagnosed celiac in July. For 8 years my hip has not been the same. It's weird... -
ARCHIVED Totally Bummed And Feeling...allergic!

I agree with others about dairy. I was still having bloating, gas pains, joint pain and other problems and it wasn't until I switched to lactose free dairy that I saw improvement -

ARCHIVED Test Results Are In
answerseeker replied to emilykay405's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The iga is your total iga. To make sure you are not deficient, which your not. I had allergy skin prick testing done which came up negative, I was then referred to the top allergist in our area. He studied and consults at the Jewish asthma center in Colorodo which is the best but he now practices here where I live yippee. Anyway he did intradermal testing... -
ARCHIVED My Haematologist Says I Should Not Change My Diet.
answerseeker replied to PaulM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's not an operation. We have all had it done. You are under sedative and they put a scope down your throat to look at the small intestine and remove tissue to look at under a microscope. The whole procedure is less than 20 min and you don't feel a thing. I was nervous for mine too. I don't do well with any sedatives but I was fine. -
ARCHIVED Follow Up On My Atypical Labs
answerseeker replied to SkyBlue4's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I again agree with Gemini. My biopsy was negative, partly because I was on prednisone and it could have healed the part they biopsied, and partly because like Gemini said the damage is sparatic and the intestine is huge. My GI doctor said the same thing and he couldn't gaurantee they didn't miss the damage, especially due to the obvious malnutrion I'm sufffering... -
ARCHIVED Follow Up On My Atypical Labs
answerseeker replied to SkyBlue4's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with Gemini. I wouldn't keep making yourself sick wtih gluten. I was diagnosed by my GI doctor based on symptoms, malabsorption, and DH on my stomach. My biopsy was inconclusive because I was on prednisone, a very high IV dosage of it. I was hoping I wouldn't have to do a gluten challenge for a repeat biopsy and was relieved when my doc said no further... -

answerseeker replied to Rosemary3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I attribute cholesterol in celiacs as being low not high. Due to fat malabsorption Right before diagnosis it was pasta that caused the worst reaction in me. I had dizziness like the room was spinning along with the other horrible symptoms -
Yes some days good some bad. This week my energy is shot. We have had a couple weeks of bad air in the Central Valley of CA. The rim fire then another fire after that has polluted our air. I've been pretty much on the couch drained. But the weeks I did have energy were terrific! I haven't felt like that for years so I will take anything I can get!
