  1. Update to the Valentines party...another disaster. I don't know what to do...I love my dd's teacher, but this baffles me. I was running late for the party, and when I got there Emmie had already eaten a cookie. The thing is, Emmie used to be very good about not eating gluten if someone gave it to her. But lately, she has been giving me a hard time. ...
  2. That is so cute! Is that a picture of Diego? You did an awesome job on it, thanks for sharing!
  3. School has been a constant thorn in my side. There was one day my 8 year old came home in tears b/c the school provided donuts to all the kids taking the TAKS preparation test. They were Krispy Kremes, and he remembers how good those are. I felt awful...then I was just plain ticked off, first b/c no one let me know, and second....I really think that conveys...
  4. Yep, ya'll hit the nail on the head, I think it is the flu. It's been a few years since we've had to deal with it, so I completely forgot how much it can wipe you out. I really worry too much over her, I always assume it's something worse. We haven't had a year yet where she doesn't get diagnosed with something new, so I'm always waiting for the other...
  5. I'm pretty certain she didn't get glutened at the party.....I brought her a safe cupcake, but there's always the possibility of crumbs being left somewhere. And it was at one of those indoor bounce house places, so there's always the chance of gluteny fingers touching things. She could have also picked up a regular old bug at the b-day party I suppose...
  6. My 5 year old was glutened about 10 days ago while at my parents, my poor dad bought Vans regular waffles instead of the gluten free ones. So she ate TWO, and was very sick that day. It was a typical gluten reaction for her....vomiting for about 6 hours, then just really tired and moody for a few days after. Over the weekend, she was back to her old...
  7. We are gluten/casein free.....four kids and all, and you really do get used to it after a while. One thing I have found, is that since we can't do dairy products for snacks anymore, we eat a much more varied and fruit/veggie filled diet. Dairy (cheese and yogurt) was always the fall back snack for me and the kids, and I look back now and think it is really...
  8. Thanks for starting this thread....I've had a heck of a time finding a vitamin with iron that my daughter will take. Most of the ones with iron have a bit of an aftertaste, and even I don't like them. I'll have to check out the Freeda vitamins next, thanks!
  9. I don't have much help for you...but I just wanted to send you lots of support and well wishes for the health of your little boy. It's so hard seeing our little ones suffer! I'm sure it's been difficult with the surgery and hospital stay, and I'm glad he's home now. Best wishes, and lots of hugs...keep us posted on his progress!
  10. Wow, it's just new product day for me here! First a new all purpose flour, now this! I'm not a huge fan of the Discount School Supply stuff either...I mean, I am SO grateful that I have a gluten-free playdough to buy, but it dries up so fast, even if it's covered. And with four kids using it, it dries up really quickly. Thanks so much for letting us know...
  11. I have been searching for a good all purpose flour mix....maybe this is it! Thanks so much, I never would have known. It would be great to be able to use all my old cookbooks again.
  12. I made this cake last year, and it was an amazing! The whole family raved about it. Now we are casein free, and just this week I tried to make it w/mayo instead of sour cream, which didn't work. I really miss this cake, lol.
  13. Thanks so much for the book recommendation! I have been so concentrated on getting my Celiac daughter on the right track, that I haven't spent as much time researching P for my son. I love this board, you guys are always so full of helpful information. I just started him on an omega 3,6,9 supplement about a week ago, and it does seem to be helping. ...
  14. I find this thread really interesting.....my 8 year old has had full blown psoriasis for two years now, but the rashes started when he was three. He is gluten/casein free, and has been for nearly a year. I really haven't seen his psoriasis respond at all to the gluten free diet. Of course, maybe it would be alot worse if he weren't on the diet, so maybe...
  15. Maybe it's just been so long since I've had a real sandwich, I forgot what "good" really is, lol. They seem to stay soft after toasting. If you didn't like them before though, I doubt they have changed much, lol.
  16. It does take a bit to get used to, but it does get easier. For butter subs, we use Smart Balance made w/flax oil. I use this b/c I can get it at Walmart for less than $2. You can't bake with it though, so I try to find recipes that call for shortening or oil instead of butter. Or, I just buy a Namaste mix b/c those are allergen free, and super easy. ...
  17. The kids used to like Kinnikinnick sandwich bread, until we found Gillian's French Bread Rolls. We LOVE these...they are soft, toast well, and it's the best sandwich I've had in three years. I haven't tried many others, but I can't imagine anything being much better than Gillian's.
  18. Oh my......I am still holding on to my cereal cravings, and my last baby is 18 months old, lol. I LOVE cereal when I'm pregnant, I could have lived off the stuff. Nothing better than a huge bowl of crispy cereal and cold milk at midnight. I went for all the kid cereals (still do really, we eat healthy 90% of the time, so this is my splurge!). I like...
  19. Since you daughter has similar symptoms, my bet would be virus. It's always a guessing game though isn't it???? Lol. I work in hospital too, and I'm always worried about what I'm bringing home. I try to change my clothes before they touch me, but sometimes they bombard me as soon as I open the door! It's Rotavirus season too....that's a nasty one that...
  20. I did not have any luck with GFP cookies, muffins or scones either. They came out really dry for me too. I do like the scone/muffin mix as pancakes though, it just doesn't make very many. I really like Manna from Anna banana and pumpkin bread, and Namaste products. Those are our favs. I also just recently found Bob's Red Mill all purpose flour, which...
  21. We love Dora Stars too....and I love that is has more vitamins and 45% iron. We also just got the new Winnie the Pooh cereal that's out, and it's pretty tasty. It's so nice to have some mainstream choices that are only $2 a box!
  22. I definately don't feel like an expert! But we have gotten pretty used to it, and I have to keep it affordable since we are a family of 6. For butter, I use Smart Balance w/flax oil (not the buttery spread, that one contains whey). I get it at Walmart, and I'm pretty sure it says gluten free right on the tub (I'm out at the moment). I know alot of people...
  23. The brand of probiotics I use is "Nature's Way" Primadophilus for kids. The kids love them, there may be some better ones out there, but these are affordable. The enzymes were "NOW" chewable papaya enzymes, but we haven't used those since last summer, so you may want to check the gluten free status again. I also came across another brand of digestive enzymes...
  24. If you don't want to pull dairy just yet, I would definately try enzymes and probiotics. I don't use enzymes anymore, but I found some a while back at the health food store that actually tasted pretty good. My kids begged for them....same with probiotics, I have a cherry flavored chewable kind that they love to take. I notice the biggest difference with...
  25. It is the same way with us...there are so many contributing factors that can cause my dd's moodiness, but if we start a new product, I always assume it's the new product. Then I have to factor in that she also has ureter reflux, and that can cause her to be irritable. I just never know anymore!!!! I didn't know ConAgra labeled rye, barley and oats...
