ARCHIVED Lachoy Teryaki Sauce
taweavmo3 replied to buffettbride's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've used it before, but stopped b/c it didn't seem to agree with my dd. I tried calling the company, but trying to get through to a person was nearly impossible. When I pressed the option for ingredient/allergen questions, I just got a recording that stated they will "clearly list the top 8 allergens...." yada yada yada. I finally gave up, and just haven... -
I forgot to mention.......I get eye twitches with accidental glutenings. It can really be bothersome, and very annoying. It usually happens with small contaminations, not enough to cause major abdominal distress, but still a definate sign that something snuck in. And it lasts for days. Hope you find some help, good luck to you!

Ugh, sorry you had to go through that! I'd bet that if we took a poll, almost all of us have had at least one doc make us cry, lol! I know I sure have....twice actually. I went to a doctor years ago for my headaches. I started explaining my symptoms, and he got really angry with me and told me to slow down, I was giving him too much information. I couldn...

ARCHIVED Wow! I Am Enjoying My 2yr Old In The Gluten-free Diet!
taweavmo3 replied to LuchoWa's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It is truly remarkable.....I still get goose bumps remembering how great it felt to really get my little girl back after she started on the diet. We really didn't see any of her personality until she was over three years old, she was always either asleep or crying. Congratulations on the good health...things will just continue to improve! -
ARCHIVED Do I Confront The Pediatrician With Our Discovery?
taweavmo3 replied to MommyStina's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It wouldn't hurt to tell your doctor.....hopefully it will help another family down the road. But, and I hate to sound like a wet blanket here, be prepared for him/her to downplay the positive results you are seeing. This has happened to me with out last two pediatricians....not all doctors are receptive to being educated by their patients. I was so... -
ARCHIVED Where Can I Find A Picture Of A Toddler With Celiac?
taweavmo3 replied to SCookie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This is the only picture I have of Emmie when she was sick....it isn't the greatest, but maybe it will help. The picture on the left in the pink dress is after being on the diet for 3 months. The bottom right picture kind of shows how frail she was, you can see her ribs, her pale color, little arms, and big belly. It took us a year and half to get a... -

ARCHIVED Additional Autoimmune Disease
taweavmo3 replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yep....my 8 year old was diagnosed with psoriasis two years ago, but the rashes started when he was three. He tested negative for Celiac, but he's gluten/casein free anyway. The diet hasn't really helped his psoriasis. I guess like with any other auto immune disorder, once the trigger has been pulled, the damage is done. But I'm hoping the diet will at... -
I'm really lucky that my kids actually like the same thing in their lunch each day, lol. Makes it easy for me! We just recently found Gillians french bread rolls...which I am totally in love with. They taste very much like the real deal, and make thick, soft sandwiches. Other items that they eat for lunch...apples w/peanut butter & honey. Corn...

ARCHIVED Hoping Her Son Grows Out Of It
taweavmo3 replied to Worriedwife's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I wonder too if the doctor may have something to do with why she thinks this way. When my dd had been on the diet for a year (after a positive biopsy), the pedi GI did a follow up Ttg level. The nurse left a message that said "Emmie's levels came back fine, she doesn't have Celiac". I knew better, but a less informed parent might have just assumed all... -
ARCHIVED Everyday Minerals - Great gluten-free Mineral Make-up!
taweavmo3 replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Did this makeup dry anyone elses skin out??? I have dry scaly patches all over my face. My skin did this last time I tried a cheaper brand of mineral makeup too, darn it. I love the makeup though, it looked great. I just wish my skin would cooperate with me!!! It's not a complete loss though, I love the lip gloss. I have Natural, which looks good alone... -
ARCHIVED Non-dairy Coconut Milk
taweavmo3 replied to NoSugarShell's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Ooooh, I would like it too! We love coconut milk, I'll try it in my coffee tomorrow..thanks for the tip! I have made whip cream out of coconut milk, it turned out okay. It was a little runny, but still tasted good over bananas and chocolate syrup. -
ARCHIVED Prayer Request
taweavmo3 replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am so,so sorry......poor baby. I can't imagine the agony the family must be in right now. Definately makes you realize how precious life is, we can't take for granted the time we have with our children. Rest in peace Noah. -
ARCHIVED If You're Looking To Make Gingerbread Men, You Should Try (m)
taweavmo3 replied to mamatide's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Glad to hear they came out well! I am always so pleased when something I baked comes out like I expect. We've been gluten free for almost 3 years now, and I have the cooking thing down. But, I still have a way to go when it comes to baking from scratch. I always say a little prayer before it comes out of the oven, lol. Nothing is more frustrating then... -
ARCHIVED Can Anyone Recommend A Good Recipe Book Or Sire?
taweavmo3 replied to mbzoltan's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I love my Eating Gluten Free cookbook, they do have some great recipes. And their cookie recipes are awesome, especially the gingersnaps. I've been making a ton of cookies this week, and the gingersnaps are always the first to go. -
ARCHIVED Prayer Request
taweavmo3 replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I will be praying for this family......I used to work in a pedi ICU, and it is gut wrenching when families have to make the agonizing decision to take their child off life support, especially after such a long fight. I can't even imagine the pain they are in, no parent should ever have to go through that. I'm so sorry to hear he isn't doing well, I will... -
ARCHIVED Cinderella Cake
taweavmo3 replied to sammers1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I made this for my little girl last year, and believe me....if I can do this, anyone can!!!! I bought the Cinderella pan from Michaels, it's made by Wilton. I bought a cake decorating book also by Wilton, which listed the specific food colors and tips to use. If you happen to go this route, give yourself plenty of time to decorate. And make sure you grease... -
ARCHIVED Breakfast Foods - Quick And Easy
taweavmo3 replied to mandy0221's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Ooooh, this sounds excellent! Do you just use a bag of shredded hashbrowns or do you cut up your own???? I make fried potatoes for breakfast sometimes, but since they do take a bit of time, I might try a bag of Ore-Ida to give this recipe a try. It sounds delish! Thanks. -
ARCHIVED Breakfast Foods - Quick And Easy
taweavmo3 replied to mandy0221's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Van waffles are really good, my favorites are the apple cinnamon and flax. I wanted to second the mention of quinoa flakes too.....these are on of my staples lately, b/c they are so easy on the stomach. They cook in 90 seconds on the stove, then I add butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and flax. Even my kids eat it, they call it oatmeal. On the really hectic... -
ARCHIVED My Kids Hate Gluten Free Food
taweavmo3 replied to truthsearcher's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yeah, pb/honey isn't the greatest on corn tortillas....but my kids are such good sports, they'll eat it in a pinch, lol. The brown rice tortillas are much better, they have a more mild flavor that goes well with pretty much anything. -
ARCHIVED My Kids Hate Gluten Free Food
taweavmo3 replied to truthsearcher's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Have you tried Kinnikinnick bread? I don't particularly care for it all that much, but my kids like it. I have to toast it first, but it packs well in lunches. We use the white sandwhich bread, but the italian one is good too. If we are running low on bread (or funds, lol) I use corn tortillas instead. I put mayo and ham, or pb/honey and just roll... -
This is my major qualm at the moment. Take the Rice Dream milk, which now says "gluten free" but it is still the same old formula, barley and all. Took a while to track that gluten source, b/c I didn't think I'd have to call and check a product that was labeled as being safe. So while I am thankful for the new labeling laws, this is a major kink that needs...

ARCHIVED Gluten And Dairy Free
taweavmo3 replied to imhungry's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is really hard at first, but you really do get used to it after a while. We don't substitute much either, b/c it gets too expensive. For milk, I like Hemp milk, the vanilla and chocolate are pretty tasty. Hunts lemon pudding cups are casein free (only the lemon though) if you need a creamy sweet treat. Kinnikinnick, Enjoy Life, and Namaste products... -
ARCHIVED Help Me Help My Child!
taweavmo3 replied to Melmelsmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh, I wish I could help you!!!! I don't have alot of useful ideas, but lots of hugs coming your way. Your poor daughter. I think the food diary is a good idea, maybe there is some other food making her react as well. I know you said she is already lactose free...is she completely casein free? That was a biggie for my little girl. Soy is another common... -
ARCHIVED Celiac's And Speech An Dlanguage Delay
taweavmo3 replied to musikal101's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think it is related as well.....but I think other factors may play a role too. My 5 year old daughter was dx'd at the age of 3. She was about 1.5 years behind for her age in everything, but speech was her biggest deficit. She didn't exactly have a speech delay, just major articulation, and expressive/receptive delays. She has been gluten free for...
