  1. My daughter is almost 7, and she has learning difficulties as well. Retaining information is a biggie for her, she still can't remember her birthday, address, or phone number. Two years ago we had her evaluated by a developmental pediatrician, and they found she was very far behind in her receptive/expressive language. We did private speech therapy for...
  2. Wow......what a novel approach to medicine. I love it, and I'm very dissapointed I don't live in California. Hey, we've always talked about moving to the coast to improve my son's Psoriasis, Sunnyvale sounds good, lol.
  3. I am in the exact same boat you are. Watched my daughter get sicker and sicker for two years, and she still has speech and learning difficulties even though she's been gluten free for 4 years. After learning how crucial those first three years of life are, I wasn't going to take a chance with my two youngest. What finally prompted me to put all the...
  4. I see where you are coming from......I really do, and I'm not commenting to beat you down. I just wanted to mention though, that the level of distrust found so often here, is from experience. I am actually a part of the medical community, and have worked with sick kids for 10 years. I myself have a certain level of distrust b/c I have seen and heard enough...
  5. Like everyone else said, you know your children best. I have one daughter who tested positive at the age of 3, but she was very sick. She still has lingering effects from being so malnourished, and it has been four years. After watching my dd struggle to learn things she should have learned in her first 3 years, I could not take any chances. I put...
  6. It is startling how strong the genetic factor is with Celiac. I ended up putting all of my children (and myself) on the diet after my daughter was diagnosed. We have all seen improvement. We also have loads of auto immune diseases in our family, autism, as well as family members with depression, ADD, and bi-polar disorder. I would love for everyone in...
  7. We love Pei Wei! There was only one time that our order was wrong, it was the regular sweet and sour chicken. It was pretty obvious before we ate it, thank goodness... it was darker, and had more crispy bits on the chicken. The manager was great though....he fixed it, gave us our meal for free, plus a card for two more free meals. It is such a treat...
  8. Thanks so much! It very well could be that I'm not feeding him often enough....with four kids, I get so wrapped up in doing things that I forget to give him a snack. Before I know it, it's been three hours since a meal, and he's already in a mood, yelling at anything that moves. I ran out of probiotics for the kids a few weeks ago, maybe those were helping...
  9. Ugh, I am at a loss here! My four year old wakes up in a screaming, raging fit until he eats. He has done this on and off since he was about a year old. When we took out milk, it seemed to improve but not entirely. He has always seemed sensitive to blood sugar fluctuations, and it just seems to be getting worse. After he wakes up, he literally screams...
  10. Yes! I have had dental problems my entire life. In the past couple of years, I've been dealing with gum recession. I have better dental hygeine than anyone I know, I use a Sonicare, etc. My dentist swears I must be brushing way too hard, lol, but I know that is not it. I'm sure I'll be having surgery in the next few years, I already have cold/hot sensitivity...
  11. This is what really worries me. If my daughter has been 100% gluten free for months, with 0 cross contamination, I can tell when she is reacting to a new product. But, once she's had that exposure, her reactions last for so long that I won't be able to tell if she gets cross contaminated with another product during that time. This will make pinpointing...
  12. In response to your question about fat (b/c I can't the quote thingy to work, lol)........ I would suggest cutting out the soy milk, and getting fat from other sources. Coconut oil is easy to add in, and has 14g of healthy saturated fat per tbsp. (sounds like an oxymoron, but it is actually good for you!) I spread coconut oil on pancakes, waffles,...
  13. From what I can tell, under the new labeling laws, they are now allowed to claim it is gluten free because the amount of gluten in it (barley malt) is under 20ppm. It is still the same formula as before, with .002% barley malt, which many people seem to react to, including my daughter. Hope that helps clear up a bit of the confusion.
  14. I haven't had time to read the replies so far, so I hope I'm not repeating what someone else said, lol. When my kids were little, they drank soy milk too. I noticed after a few months, that they were not putting on weight. I finally had to take them off of it, it was causing too many problems. What I found that worked for us, since my 2 year old also...
  15. Just wanted to chime in here.....we had a gluten/casein free Thanksgiving for 8, and it went great! Here is what we had: Turkey w/cornbread stuffing Wild rice and sausage stuffing Mashed potatoes (almond milk/smart balance butter) Sweet potato casserole Peas w/ cream sauce Cranberry relish Brown sugar ham Lemon layer cake....totally not a t-day...
  16. This is so frustrating!!!!!! I buy these occasionally, as a treat for my kids. It infuriates me that this company has totally taken away my choice as a parent as to how much poison goes into my child. Same with Rice Dream. "Gluten Free" should be just that, period. Anyway, thanks for the heads up. That's why I luuuurve this board so much!
  17. As for us, I removed my daughter from the last situation b/c there are people who do not care to do things differently. I don't believe everyone is teachable, and they aren't going to learn at my child's expense. It would have been great to have blazed a trail for all food intolerant children who came after us, but sometimes that is just not possible when...
  18. I agree with Fiddle Faddle, asking you to put your daughter on a gluten challenge is risky. Definately get a second opinion.....you are not betraying this doctor in anyway by doing so, you are being your daughters advocate. Most doctors (ones worth seeing anyway) do not have any problem with a patient getting a second opinion, and should encourage it. ...
  19. Ugh, I feel for you! We actually found a new church b/c of this issue. The last church we went to always had a different person in the childcare area w/my daughter, and it became too risky. I love the church we are at now, and we haven't had any issues. Each kid gets a ticket, and any allergies are printed for them to see. Plus, we send in their...
  20. Yikes...that's a tough one! My husband has a few sisters that took a long time to really catch on. At birthday parties and such, they were always asking if my dd could have "a little gluten". For a long time I would not leave them alone with her, we had worked way too hard to see it all go down the drain in two seconds. It can also be confusing for...
  21. That is great news. I think we are going to try and go this coming spring...we haven't had a vacation since child #3 came along, which has been almost 5 years, lol. I figured it would be a vacay for everyone but me, since I would still have to spend the majority of the time cooking or packing meals. So an entire week of someone else cooking for us and...
  22. My kids really like almond milk......I also make cashew milk to use in smoothies (they won't drink it straight). Soak a cup of raw cashews in water overnight, rinse the next morning. Blend with 4 cups of water, a dash of vanilla and honey to sweeten. It makes a great base for smoothies, and adds nutrition. I sometimes mix almond milk with a few teaspoon...
  23. You have been given great advice. I don't have a whole lot more to add, except to tell you that there is hope her eating habits will change once she stops associating food with pain. My dd is the BEST eater out of all my kids, and I never thought that would happen. Tonight, she was the only one who ate an entire bowl of brocolli slaw, sweet potatoes...
  24. I also wanted to add......if you can't get into a specialist soon, you can just bring her into a general ped or any doctor and at least get her oxygen saturation checked. It's super easy, and if it is low, they will get the ball rolling from there. Good luck, I think your intuition is right on with this one and it's good you caught it. Take care.
  25. Just wanted to reiterate what Paulette said. Your dd needs to get seen as soon as possible and have an echo, things could have changed. Clubbing is caused by lack of oxygen, which goes along with pale color and lethargy. I've seen clubbing in kids with severe heart defects and after years and years of bad asthma or other respiratory diseases. Not to scare...
