ARCHIVED Honey Nut Chex
taweavmo3 replied to OliveBranch's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We don't eat any of the Chex anymore. For the past few months, my stomach seemed to be more sensitive, I thought it was just other intolerances. My dd had been acting like she had been glutened for quite a while, but I couldn't figure it out. I finally just quit buying Chex a few weeks ago, and we are both back to normal now. I am completely convinced... -
ARCHIVED Rice Dream Ads!
taweavmo3 replied to Truleesmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
What upset me the most about Rice Dream, is that before the label change to gluten free, they at least stated on the box that it contained .002% of barley malt. Once they labeled the box gluten free, the barley malt ingredient was gone, leading me to believe it was excluded from the formula now, hence the new gluten free label. But after a phone call, I... -
ARCHIVED Problem With Gluten Free Breads
taweavmo3 replied to tfrankenberger's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My kids, and myself, can't handle too much fiber from grains. I have a fab bread recipe that I got online, made from brown rice flour, sorghum, and ground flax seed. It tastes great, but also has a ton of fiber, and gives us all stomach aches and cramps if we eat too much. I think this is the same reason we can't tolerate gluten free oats...too much fiber... -
ARCHIVED I Think My Son Has Celiac Disease
taweavmo3 replied to Roberta67's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Poor thing, I think childhood is much too short to spend it feeling sick all the time! I understand about not having insurance, it's crazy how much simple tests and doctors visits cost. If you don't want to go forward with testing, there are some great books by Dana Korn to get you started. Those helped me in the beginning. If he starts to feel better... -
ARCHIVED Celiac & Iep?
taweavmo3 replied to ccj's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am planning on asking for a 504 plan for my daughter this school year. Her teacher last year was great.....the hard part comes when your child is involved with several different teachers, it's impossible to inform each and every one about the food issues. My dd's speech therapist wanted to treat the kids to an ice cream last year, and the lunch lady called... -
ARCHIVED Our Story..
taweavmo3 replied to flatoutgallop's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think that could definately be the problem with both of your children.....I have four kids (one who was diagnosed Celiac w/biopsy) who are all gluten intolerant, and I'm on the diet myself. I didn't go on the gluten free diet until after my last daughter was born, she had some issues at birth and while I was pregnant. When I was 34 weeks pregnant,... -
ARCHIVED What Foods Are You Intolerant To?
taweavmo3 replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Still trying to pinpoint my other intolerances. So far: Soy Casein Chocolate (tried chocolate again last night....makes my heart race) MSG Vinegar Peanut butter (maybe???) Caffeine I'm still in the process, it's been frustrating and tricky. My other intolerances cause my heart to race, which completely wipes me out. What's funny is that I... -
ARCHIVED I Got My Enterolab Results Today!
taweavmo3 replied to Amyleigh0007's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That's great that you have the proof you needed, I know every bit of reassurance helps. I might do the gene test for myself and my husband, since all four of our kids are gluten sensitive. Seems odd that not even one of our kids can eat gluten without problems, but if my husband has the genes too (he's also gone gluten free recently for issues he's had... -
ARCHIVED I Can't Stand The Guessing Game Anymore....please Help!
taweavmo3 replied to mom2easton&eli's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am so sorry you've had to go through so much with your son! I agree with Tiffany, positive is positive. Unfortunately, many of us here have experienced doctors who've had less than adequate knowledge in regards to Celiac. Combined with your son's symptoms, I think you have your answer already. I have one daughter who tested positive by biopsy, but... -
I would love to know thier manufacturing process too.....as for us, we aren't buying any more. My dd was acting glutened for weeks, and I could not figure it out. I finally just quit buying Chex all together, even the Rice Chex that I thought she was fine with at first. She has been her old self again, it's so nice to have my sweet little girl back...

ARCHIVED Please Help Me Figure Out What Is Glutening Us
taweavmo3 replied to hadabaday2day's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's a tough one. I have some thoughts.....like the other poster said, coffee may be killing your stomach. I reluctantly gave it up four weeks ago b/c I couldn't figure out why my stomach was so sensitive. I gave up coffee, and feel a TON better. The first few days were rough, but I drank some Coke to tide me over until I could cut caffeine out completely... -
ARCHIVED How Many People Are Actually Self-diagnosed?
taweavmo3 replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm also self diagnosed, I went gluten free shortly after my oldest daughter was diagnosed at age 3. All of my wierd symptoms were explained...I was anemic, very short, enlarged lymph node, migraines starting at age 5, moodiness, and IBS type symptoms with stress. I never realized how crappy I felt all my life, until I started to feel better! It hasn... -
ARCHIVED Lump On Left Side Of Neck
taweavmo3 replied to ohsotired's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have a swollen lymph node on my left side, I've had it for years. I first noticed it in my teens, when it was at its largest. I saw an endocrinologist for it, and had a biopsy for non-hodgkins lymphoma, which came back clear. I was then released, and just told to watch it. This was 20 years ago, it has gone down some since going gluten free, but hasn... -
ARCHIVED Flours From Asian Markets
taweavmo3 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I went to an asian market today...and wow, the flours there are super cheap! I was a little bummed though b/c the only rice flour I could find is glutenous rice flour, which I believe is sweet rice flour...is that right? And, for those of you that buy your flours from an asian market......have you ever had any reactions??? I did find one box of sweet... -
ARCHIVED Has Any One Experienced More Effects From Caffeine After Going gluten-free?
taweavmo3 replied to mattathayde's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just last week I gave up my beloved coffee! I only drank one cup a day, but man did I love that cup each day. Anyway, I think it was tearing up my stomach and causing my heart to race. My stomach over time has become more and more sensitive to things, and it was gettting to where I was scared to eat anything. One morning, after a new brand of coffee (which... -
ARCHIVED Is gluten-free Rice Chex Actually gluten-free?
taweavmo3 replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My dd reacts to the Honey Nut and Corn Chex....I don't think it's gluten though, but rather the whole grains b/c she's fine with the Rice Chex. I also seem to have a problem with most whole grains, we've really had to cut back on the baked goods ( I use brown rice flour) and whole grains in general. Why we are having problems with grains now after years... -
ARCHIVED Was It The Rice Krispie Bars Or
taweavmo3 replied to The Kids Folks's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes! You just described my son and daughter perfectly if gluten sneaks in somewhere. Right down to the major meltdown at Walmart, lol!!!!! My 5 year old doesn't get GI symptoms like my daughter....his main symptom is in his behavior. He gets SO mean....the last tantrum, at Walmart (what is it about that place?) had me in tears. He was so out of control... -
ARCHIVED My 8 Yr Old Is Off To gluten-free Camp!
taweavmo3 replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It must be the Great Gluten Escape Camp! We haven't sent the kids yet, but definately plan on it for next year when my daughter is a bit older. I'll bet your dd has a blast....you'll have to report back and let us know how it went! -
ARCHIVED Boston's Gourmet Pizza - Mckinney, Tx
taweavmo3 replied to ohsotired's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Ack! I'm in Mckinney! We are casein free, but the kids tolerate a little cheese here and there as long as it's not a daily thing. They have never had gluten free pizza out, what a treat this will be! Thanks, I had no idea there was gluten-free pizza right in my neighborhood! -
ARCHIVED Why Can't Extended Family Members Get It?
taweavmo3 replied to Skeet's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
A while back, we looked into private health insurance. My husband was thinking of taking a sales position with a small company that didn't provide benefits yet. All but one company refused to insure my daughter who's been diagnosed with Celiac, only Aetna agreed to cover her, but it was at a much higher cost. Needless to say, I don't think we can ever... -
ARCHIVED In Case Anyone Was Wondering About..
taweavmo3 replied to Jamie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Agreed, if it makes a 2 layer cake, it's not a bad price. If it's just enough mix for one layer, not so much. I'm curious to see how it tastes though.....so I'll buy it at least once just to try it out. No signs of it here in Texas yet, but we also just got the Honey Nut Chex, so I'm guessing it will be a while. -
ARCHIVED Baking Gluten Free
taweavmo3 replied to SLB5757's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
It can get discouraging in the beginning when you try a few of the bad gluten free packaged items, and believe me, there are alot out there! But there are also some really good things too, so don't lose hope. It's hard at first, b/c you are used to the gluten equivalent, and nothing really tastes quite as good (except homemade). There is alot of trial... -
ARCHIVED 5 Kitchen Essentials For A gluten-free Kitchen?
taweavmo3 replied to grnjellyshoes's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This gave me a good laugh! It is so true. I would add to that....a good glass of wine. My husband always poured me a glass when I said I was going to try a new bread or pizza dough, lol. -
ARCHIVED Baking Gluten Free
taweavmo3 replied to SLB5757's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Our favorite, before we cut out dairy, is the Gluten Free Pantry sandwich bread and Anna's Breads. Both excellent breads, and super easy. I bake my bread from scratch now, but mainly b/c we are all gluten free, so it saves money. I'm still not a huge fan of bread baking from scratch, lol. If it were just me, I'd go for a mix....for one person, a loaf... -
Ack! Which brand of ketchup had gluten in it??? Thanks!
