  1. Sure sign of glutening for me is chapped lips......I'm guessing it's mainly due to dehydration, I also get a headache and just feel generally dried out. And my oldest child, he had constant sores inside of his mouth until he went gluten free, it took a while for him to stop getting them. Those are miserable little buggers, and made brushing his teeth a...
  2. Namaste came out with new packaging recently....and downsized too. I used to always have some mix leftover after making two batches of pancakes, now it makes exactly two batches w/out any leftover. Not a huge deal, but I used to buy two or three packages and the leftovers of all three was enough to make another batch. I was a little miffed, b/c we pay...
  3. Wow.....you guys have really been through the ringer! Just a thought....did you breastfeed? Gluten does end up in the breastmilk, so she would have been exposed from the beginning. I experienced this firsthand with my last baby girl. That is what prompted me to finally go gluten free, b/c she was reacting to dairy and gluten (also had nasty reflux until...
  4. I have noticed that the superfine brown rice flour is very dense....when I use it in other recipes, I always have to add more liquid. It does seem very absorbent, so maybe that's the problem? If you get a chance to buy the superfine brown rice flour, it is really worth it. We are on a tight budget too, so I bake sparingly, lol. After making the baked...
  5. I'm so sorry you are having such a tough time with the doctors! What a tough position to be in. I would definately go with your instinct here....honestly for us, having a confirmed diagnosis through a biopsy did not make much of a difference. We did the biopsy, the doctor called us with the positive diagnosis, and we went gluten free. We have gone back...
  6. My daughter is still tiny....we've been gluten free for four years now. She put on a dress this morning, and it still fit even though it was from last summer I think we will be headed to an endocrinologist soon too, but one thing I've done recently is to add a Vit D supplement. I read that a Vit D deficiency can casue a lag in growth. I found a liquid...
  7. Yes, definately get her tested for Celiac! My dd never had diarrhea or vomiting.....her main symptom was lack of growth or weight gain, and irritability. I was often told by family and doctors that she was just going through terrible two's, but I knew it was something more. She did have large, bulky stools that were quite foul smelling, but never diarrhea...
  8. The Purely Decadent coconut ice cream is SO good! You will love it.....the coconut flavor dissapears once you add other flavors. We love the chocolate. In fact, we loved it so much, and since we are a casein free family of six, lol.....I just recently bought an ice cream maker to make my own coconut ice cream. I made some for my brother in law, who is...
  9. Yep, all the Puffins other than honey rice have oats. That one has caught us before too.
  10. Yes! I spent most of my childhood with an enlarged lymph node on my neck. I had biopsies and everything, scared my parents half to death I'm sure thinking I had cancer. I've also had migraines since I was 5, and anemia. I've been on the diet almost 3 years now, and I just had a slew of blood tests that showed everything was within normal limits...which...
  11. Thank you so much for this! My 9 year old was recently in a children's hospital, and he didn't have much to eat at all. We had to let him have dairy for the few days he was there b/c it limited his food choices even more. The dietitian was really helpful, after realizing they basically had nothing for him to eat besides fruit and a few veggies, she had...
  12. Congratulations! It will just keep getting better and better, the transfomation is amazing to watch. Hope your hubby sees much improvement too, migraines are excruciating. I've had them since I was a child, but I've been migraine free since going on the diet. Good luck!
  13. I think making sweets at home is part of the fun of being a kid, in my opinion. Not to get snippy, but it seems as if you really didn't want any help after all. Sorry to have tried.
  14. Sorry you are having such a tough time with your daughter.....I know my 4 kids go through phases when it comes to eating. One day they love something, the next time I fix it, they are repulsed, lol. I have also found with this diet, that is very easy to get stuck in a cooking rut. We are dairy free too, so that's an added challenge that isn't always easy...
  15. I'm a goofball....I was looking at the shipping to Canada, lol. The shipping is only $5 for me. I think I'll give the Better Batter a shot too, there is one option to get two 5 lb bags and a signed cookbook for $45. I luuurve new cookbooks of any kind, so I'm in. Also, if anyone wants me to use their name as a refferal so you can get extra points or ...
  16. Hey! Just curious, how did you get the Better Batter for such a good deal? I really want to try this, but for a 25 lb bag, the price was $60, plus another $40 for shipping. Ouch. I might try the Domata Living flour first, since it's a bit cheaper. But I would love to get Better Batter if the price was better. We are gluten-free family of 6, and I don...
  17. We use Laptop Lunches too....and a Thermos. Now that it's cold, I make big batches of beef stew, chicken soup, or stir fry and put them in the thermos. If I preheat the thermos for 10 minutes with boiling water, the food is still piping hot when my son eats at 12:30. Taquitos (Delimex is the brand we use) and chicken nuggets keep well too. My kids like...
  18. I would definately stay away from replacing with soy like you said....it messes up my kids tummies as much, if not more, than dairy. We tried soy milk one night, and we were all up with bad stomach aches. I think dairy is harder than gluten.....I know with my kids, so much of their "filling" foods were dairy. Most snacks were yogurt, cheese sticks, ice...
  19. What about Chick-fil- a???? Anyone know about these? The fries are listed as gluten free, so in a bind we get fries and a fruit cup. Has anyone had issues there?
  20. I also wanted to add that we supplement with fish oil too, as well as probiotics and a liquid calcium supplement with vitamin D. The probiotics and liquid calcium supp. taste good, so the kids take them w/out a fuss. The fish oil is tricky....if you get a quality oil, it won't taste fishy, but the oily texture puts the kids off. We like the Carlson...
  21. Do not beat yourself up over this! I know the guilt all too well, but as my husband tells me over and over when I look back on how I could have done things differently with my daughter, guilt serves no purpose. I know in my case, it happened over such a long period of time, that it was harder for me to see. And although I had an older child to compare...
  22. I don't use the LaChoy terriyaki anymore either.....I always felt sick the next day. Does it have MSG? That seems to cause a reaction for both me and my daughter.
  23. Dh and I are tossing around vacation ideas.....we haven't ever had a family vacation. The past few years have been more than rough, and now that things have settled down, and our youngest child will be 3 this summer, I feel like a vacation is in order. We had originally thought of just renting a beach house, but since we are all (except dh) gluten free...
  24. Forget the kids being excited over this, I am thrilled! I used to absolutely love Lucky Charms. These look very promising.......it sure is nice to have a splurgy, junk food breakfast every now and then on a lazy Saturday morning. Thanks for heads up!
  25. I'm pretty sure the beef rolls from walmart are okay.....I buy them and my super sensitive daughter doesn't react. Is your dd dairy free already? That might be something to look into if you aren't doing that already. I had to take dairy out of my dd's diet about 2-3 months after going gluten free. We have done a dairy trial in hopes of tolerating...
