  1. Well I'm just now just getting out of denial. I actually let my sister-in-law and Mother almost talk me into believing that there's no way I could have celiac disease or GI because no one else in my family has it. I know that means nothing IF they really dont' have it. Doubt anyone will get tested regardless of what my biopsy shows. Anyway, I'm just...
  2. Oh my gosh!! Yes I just started taking a B-complex vitamin per my derm. recomendation until I get biopy/start diet. Thanks so much!!! Tiffany M.
  3. From what I've read here, many agree that 'Breads from Anna' are the closest thing to real bread they've found. The site is www.glutenevolution.com. I e-mailed them to ask if I needed a bread machine to make their breads and Anna wrote back saying I could also use a food processor - since I have neither I'm getting a bread machine. Her mixes are sold on the...
  4. For years I've have to urinate three times more than any of my friends/family. It isn't uncommon for me to go when I get to a restaurant, then go again before I leave. I was told by a doctor years ago that I probably have a small bladder but maybe it's related to celiac disease?.. Anyway, my question is does anyone out there ever have bright yellow urine...
  5. I agree with previous post. I wanted a blood test that my Dad's cariologist said I needed. Went to dr. to get it, they informed me ins. wouldn't cover. Called insurance company and got it approved, as long as test was done in dr. office. No problem I think so I go back to dr. for the test. Oops! Test must be done in lab due to freezing requirements for sample...
  6. From what I understand (which isn't much at this point) you should check anything that says natural flavors. About artificial flavors, I'm thinking that gluten is a natural protein which should be safe. Please correct me anyone if I'm wrong. Thanks!
  7. Perfect thanks! I also need crackers for my green bean casserole so this will work great for me. Easier than fying up onions in gluten-free flour. Thanks again!
  8. Where do you get this Ener-G mix? Is it something Whole Foods carries or do you know? I've heard something about that brand but what I thought it was available online only. I heard their crackers are quite good as well.
  9. glutenrevolution@eathlink.net is her address. Also, she is about to introduce a new gluten-free pie crust very soon. I'm so excited!
  10. Okay to paraphrase Butterball's e-mail response to me about their turkeys, here is what they said. Where dietary restrictions are concerned, we suggest you purchase our Butterball Fresh Turkey or Butterball Fresh breatst of turkey. They are all natural and contain no additives. Our frozen turkeys are enhanced with a patented recipe of ingredients for...
  11. [Also, I started another thread, their AMC movie nachos are gluten-free. Lays Staxx say on the can that they are gluten-free. Caramel color manufactured in the US should be gluten-free. HTH Elonwy <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  12. I'm not on the diet (biopsy to come soon) yet but I went to a support group meeting recently where the topic was traveling/eating out gluten-free. If I were you, I would have taken the trip and packed lots of my own food (nuts, gluten-free snacks and so forth) and buy and take the dinging cards that you can get on this site and others. If you contact the...
  13. Oh my gosh! I don't have to start the diet until right after Thanksgiving (after biopsy) and I thought all I had to worry about for Christmas dinner was to make sure I use gluten-free cornbread mix for dressing (no not all mixes are gluten-free even though they are a corn product) and no fried onions for the green bean cassserole and I'm still looking for...
  14. Matilda - is the Aubrey Organics Rosa Maqueta shampoo the one for bounce that is gluten-free? I'm going to a specialty store that carries it this week and I don't want to get the wrong thing. I think I understood your note correctly but wanted to make sure. Thanks!
  15. tarnalberry - thanks for the great recipes! Anyone - I make pumpkin bread during the holidays. It is homemade and of course uses regular flour. It is a sweet bread so I'm wondering which gluten-free flour would be best to try. There seem to be several and since they are expensive I dont' want to get four of them to experiment if others know which might...
  16. I totally agree with Jo Ann's comment. This is the best place for support because if I went on and on about celiac disease with my 'regular' friends, they probably wouldn't want to be around me much. And I wouldn't blame them for feeling that way. It's like if you only talked about your job all the time, your freinds would get bored with the conversations...
  17. Just and an FYI this is the breadmachine I have and it works great, fiarly cheap as these machines go too.. Open Original Shared Link <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  18. I'm glad to find I'm not the only one out here that has a husband (who is usually very supportive) who thinks I'm obsessed with celiac disease. Once the GI told me I may have it, I came home and got on web.md (only been on it once before with shingles research) and that's how I found this site. After a week myhusband said I needed to stop coming to the site...
  19. Can't really answer your question since I haven't had the biopsy yet but I too have some anti-body level that is too high and I'm anemic and that's my only symptom. My colonoscopy came out fine so the biopsy is next but I'm under the impression that many biopsies are even done correctly so there are a lot of false negatives out there. Did you go on the gluten...
  20. Deb - kudos to you! I went to my first gluten-free support group meeting just over a week ago and it made me feel like I wasn't the only freak with this wierd (to me anyway) disease. I'm lucky to have two such groups in my metro area. Anyway, I do know that our leader mentioned about the Celiac Sprue Association. I think she said you need an MD and a...
  21. Everything with baking is feel and trial and error - practice makes perfect. I suggest you make a couple of pies before the big day. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  22. My dermatologist recently told me that if I had malabsorption issues which I apparently do, and that gets resolved (through whatever means) that my hair should not continue to thin. Luckily I have not even had wads of hair coming out in the shower but my younger sister did have that earlier this year. She was put on some anti-anxiety med and the hair stopped...
  23. Well I must say that can't help you because this year will be my first holiday season on the diet but since I can have corn syrup (as far as I know now) I was just worried as to how to make the pie crusts. I bake about three times a year (during holidays) so I buy frozen ready made crusts which of course I can't do this year. What do you use for the crust...
