    ARCHIVED Wary...

Dr. Fine probably pwns most other doctors out there, just look at his CV Open Original Shared Link LOL! I love that probably unintended pun.
  2. I think most companies won't call anything gluten free unless it is made in a factory that doesn't use the same equipment with wheat. I think they'd always wash down the line but there's always the chance that there could be something in the first product off the line. Lots of companies are putting information about the factory on their label like, "Made...
  3. Welcome to the US. I get big time gas with dairy and either constipation or the other way. I had the Enterolab test which pointed out my casein sensitivity, which I had no idea I had. But sure 'nuff, my body felt better once I cut out the milk products. Now I try to eat a Paleo diet (look that up on the web) and it makes me feel much better. ...
  4. I went into a Jack-in-the-box and asked if the salads contained any wheat. Mind you, I said wheat figuring everyone would know what wheat is. The manager looked at me like I had asked her if there were any snorglegorzits in the frobulitz. She didn't know what wheat was. So she asked another worker and they looked just as puzzled, if not worse. ...
  5. I find eating lots of starchy, sugary stuff makes me hungry. If I keep my diet centered around meat, veggies, fruit and such that I don't get ravenously hungry. I think it is the ups and downs of blood sugar.
  6. That is Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes is where you produce enough, or even too much insulin but your body doesn't use it correctly. Here's a link to an article that says 30% of Americans have undiagnosed diabetes or pre-diabetes. Open Original Shared Link
  7. I think the difference between celiac disease and gluten sensitivity is just that with one you have damage to your villi and with the other you don't. So if you're in the celiac disease category someone will tell you you're sick and you can get a firm diagnosis. The other category, you're on your own pretty much. But I suspect they've got a lot in common...
  8. My blood pressure goes up, up, up if I eat a lot of starchy, sugary refined products. If I stick to meat, veggies, fruit and that sort of thing it goes down very nicely.
  9. Yeah, it is probably extremely underdiagnosed. There's a forum where you can talk to people that are controlling their pre-diabetes condition with low carb diets here: Open Original Shared Link There's a forum specifically for diabetes or pre-diabetes. People are having very good results with this by trimming out the refined carbs out of their diets...
  10. Unfortunately the vegetarian diet is really high in a lot of foods people get intolerances to, to make up for the otherwise poor protein content. If you're not getting better then you really should see if getting off soy and dairy will help you.
  11. You can use some salt substitute (which is made from potassium) to get a nice source of extra potassium in your diet.
  12. I'm curious, if your dietary results show that gluten is messing you up, why you'd feel the need for further testing? I think dietary testing for those of us with GI symptoms is better than anything the doctor can offer you. My main symptom cleared up within a couple of days (bad abdominal cramping and diarrhea).
  13. The biopsy is really for you and your state of mind. If you can adhere to the diet without having confirmation of the current (lousy, IMHO) "gold standard" method of testing then why bother? In the end having a positive biopsy means nothing to anyone but you really.
  14. The more high quality protein like meat and eggs you eat, the smaller your appetite will be. I try to have the biggest part of each meal being meat or eggs and then fill in with veggies and fruit. Keeps my gut happy too.
  15. I bought a package of xanthum gum years ago, still have most of it. I don't bake or use it all that often though.
  16. I've been on a number of thyroid hormones, synthetic and natural (porcine derived). I have a low Free T3 but normal TSH when I am on synthetic thyroid. I had a lot of hypotyroid symptoms... but I think they were either related to my autoimmune disease (AS) or else gluten and dairy in my diet. Since I've gotten my AS treated and been gluten/dairy free,...
  17. Well, if it is any consolation, probably most of the people in the world have intestinal parasites. Those of us with modern sanitation don't have them quite as often. I'm sure it was a fact of life for our ancestors.
  18. There's an FAQ at the enterolab.com web site that explains this:
  19. I've been following this drug for a long time. Not sure how it would be used for celiacs though. Leaky gut syndrome really isn't acknowledged, diagnosed or treated by physicians now.
  20. Grave's disease and Ankylosing Spondylitis.
  21. Do you think you could stick to the diet without an official diagnosis? Some people can't, or use that as an excuse to cheat. Some people can't stick to the diet even wtih an official diagnosis. But only you know yourself well enough to answer that. For me, the fear of getting more autoimmune diseases, feeling nasty, and possibly getting cancer, is...

ARCHIVED How Do Doctor's View Celiac?

    www.enterolab.com great site and lab.
  23. Vance's dairy free milk is pretty good. You have to order online. Their chocolate is actually quite good, a wee bit too sweet for my tastes though.

ARCHIVED How Do Doctor's View Celiac?

Its also not like the doctor's can "do" anything once you're diagnosed, so self-diagnosis and treatment is also an option. You could go the Enterolab route, you could try a gluten-free diet (but only if you decide not to pursue the official diagnosis). Actually, even if you do test negative I'd strongly advise a gluten-free trial to see if your gastro...
  25. Actually, identical twins don't always get it even if one does. Sometimes even though you have the genes, whatever it takes to activate them doesn't happen. But it sounds to me like you two do have a possible issue!
