  1. I love beans too, really miss them. I'm afraid they'd be to much food for the bacteria lurking in my digestive tract that is affecting my arthritis. Still... it might be worth a try.
  2. Artichoke is legal, I'm betting on the beans. They're evil for sending lots of undigested resistant starches down to the GI tract for the beasties to feast on.
  3. I've been cheating like crazy and my gut is not happy with me. Back on the wagon! Yes, the carb/junk food cravings go away. I think you can go as fast as your gut allows. But if you start getting flatulence, diarrhea or constipation, heed your body.
  4. I think it does get a lot easier the longer you leave it alone. However, lately I've been toying with the idea of trying to reintroduce goat/sheep cheeses once my gut settles down further. My rheumy has me on sulfasalazine which is supposed to help stop leaky gut syndrome and things like crohn's and colitis, which I suspect I might have. So I am hoping...
  5. I've been watching with interest as it seems like Alzheimer's might be a new type of diabetes where the brain isn't able to produce insulin. I've seen 3 different studies that indicated this.
  6. Interesting! I was wonder how the weight gain happens, whether it messes wtih your blood sugar and makes you hungry or whether it actually slows down your metabolism. I know how many calories I can eat if I'm eating starchy/sugary food. Concentrating on protein really gets my appetite back under control again.
  7. I have tendon, muscle and joint issues and was recently diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis. My rheumatologist said a lot of his AS patients also have gluten sensitivity. I'm doing really well with the drug he put me on, sulfasalazine. It has helped my gut and my tendons.
  8. LOL! I did exactly the same thing. Then I found out I have a disease that requires me to have a low-starch diet in addition to gluten free. So now that I'm seriously eating meat, veggies and fruits, and little else, I'm losing weight.
  9. I use the antihistamines sometimes but I found a better herbal mix. Plain valerian didn't work so well for me but valerian with skullcap (sometimes they add hops too) seems to do the trick for me.
  10. I'd think it isn't that abnormal of a diet once you get beyond the first couple of weeks. You can stick to meat, veggies, eggs and fruits and that isn't difficult for most meals. Some people take awhile to figure out breakfast, but for me I do just fine on eggs/sausage in the morning. So I usually do most of my cooking on the weekend, like make enough...
  11. LOL! That was very funny. It looks like something I might even be able to eat someday!
  12. I noticed within a day or two and I was GREAT for about a month, then things got worse again, but in a different way. I didn't have the miserable cramping, but I was back to pooping many times a day. I think there were several things going on including another autoimmune disease that can affect the bowel, and I was also found to be sensitive to milk products...
  13. What if you get a false negative from the biopsy? It happens frequently. Who cares what people think! This is your daughter's health, not theirs.
  14. Definitely! In fact, those products were absolutely full of gluten because it is the protein part of wheat. I was using a wonderful wheat based low-carb baking mix that made me really sick, only I didn't realize it. *sigh* And then there were all the resistant starches and foods that had been tinkered with that were probably feeding the bad bacteria in...
  15. I think some of us have additional food issues. I felt great on removing gluten then back slid (in symptoms) after about 30 days. I went on the SCD diet and identified nuts and milk as additional problems for me. I'm also thinking some of us might have problems like an IBD. I'm getting a colonoscopy done mid-month. The SCD diet has done a good job...
  16. Gas, cramping, not exactly diarrhea, but running to poo 3-7 times a day, sometimes diarrhea. Feeling excessively sleepy and dull-witted after eating gluten, feeling too "cold". In fact, I thought my thyroid meds needed adjusting because I had a lot of hypothyroid like symptoms. Then there is my list of related autoimmune diseases: vitillago, ezcema, ankylosing...
  17. I have a silly question... how do you use them? Do you give them to the person seating you? If so, what do you say? Or do you give it to the wait-staff?
  18. Oh yeah, this seems to be a common reaction. Husbands, parents, wives, strangers... all need to be wised up with a clue by 4".
  19. I find that increasing my protein (meats, eggs and such) really helps me.
  20. Capt'n Morgan seems like a manly choice. Put a parrot on your shoulder and you'd be all set! You could always try to find the ever elusive gluten-free beers. I have no idea how they taste but I am definitely interested in trying them. I miss beer.
  21. Horray! It'd be nice to have beer again! Has anyone tried this beer? How's it compare?
  22. Funny thing is, not only do I feel better on a low-carb diet, but my cholesterol numbers are much, much better. It brought my triglycerides very low, increased my HDL (which is the most important, higher is better). My hypoglycemia is gone, my blood pressure got lower and... my IBS improved (due to not eating wheat!). My doctor is also a fan of low carb...
  23. You can buy wheat-free Soy or Tamari sauce. I usually have to look for it at health food stores, but sometimes regular groceries do. I actually like the taste better than the other sort. But, it means you've probably got to make your own teriyaki sauce.
  24. Get the blood tests but if they're negative, don't stop there. Try a couple of weeks on a strict gluten free diet and see how you feel. The blood tests don't pick up everyone.
  25. I really think the dietary test should be enough of a diagnosis! Kind of hard to argue with what the body is telling ya!
