    Thyroid cancer in 2007 when my oldest was just a wee one. I'm only gluten-free because I'm still nursing one of my kids with Celiac, though.     I emailed Aldi asking them to consider keeping their gluten-free line in their regular offerings and this was their response... Yay! Aldi isn't in my regular rotation, but I would totally make a trek there regularly for many of their gluten-free foods. Granted, I have two Aldis in a ten minute drive...so it's not out of my way.

    My youngest also had that belly - she looked like a kid in a Sally Struther's commercial. All belly and little twig limbs. I still remember those screams all night long. That was a really rough year. But, like Cara, I waited out everything to get a true DX. Please reconsider altering his diet until he has a firm DX. It will makes things so much easier...

    I have two kids with and one without - with a gluten-free house and car. The middle kid is pretty much always with me or fed by me so he's gluten-free, but every once in a while my husband will take him out for a "gluten fest".

    We have several different lunch box options - totally depends on the day. I will say that the LL Bean one is our favorite. Plenty of room for the storage boxes and a separate water bottle space. Stays cold. It's like the perfect lunch box shape! In fact, at the end of last year she lost it (how? I don't know!) and I picked up another one on vacation...

    Hi Becky! I hit the genetic lottery with 2 out of 3 kids with celiac. And I started out sad, scared, overwhelmed and so obsessively occupied with food. But it gets easier with time. I promise! Ask anything you want - seriously don't reinvent the wheel. The parents on this forum rock and are insanely helpful!

    Will they run a stool sample? It won't confirm Celiac, but the sacs sound like something is going on.

    Thanks! If you think of anything else please let me know! We used to always have a rule that we wouldn't eat at chains while traveling - always preferred the "mom and pop" places. Yeah, that's out the door now that the kids' diets are restricted!

    My oldest is going to Celiac camp next month - she's so excited to not have to think about food for a whole week!! I will be driving her to Atlanta and dropping her off the next day.     Almost all of them. My friend (with the kid that is allergic to everything) kept an excel sheet on her computer. We just took turns calling manufacturers and crossing them off our list. Between wheat germ and oats they kept getting the boot! Like Stephanie mentioned - it's so much of a non-issue for the vast majority of people that it's not a concern...

    Yep! It's only an issue for my youngest b/c they do a lot of shaving cream play and painting at school. Barbasol is one without gluten (at least that's cost effective for wasteful play). A friend (her kid can't have gluten, corn, egg, dairy) can only use ONE variety of Barbasol! These are just the things you have to think about when the people with...

    ^^^ And I'm just saying that I wouldn't trust that information coming from anybody but the manufacturer TO ME. If the manufacturer says there is gluten in it then find a different medication or have it made at a compounding pharmacy. As mentioned earlier, they often have a CYA statement that won't say gluten free, but will say there are no gluten ingredients...

    Back to OP's post... We do the vast majority of the entertaining and I do it all. When people ask what they can bring I suggest either fruit or raw veggies with dip. Most are happy to have an opportunity to share, but get why I have these rules. Yes, gluten crumbs won't jump off the floor into my mouth, but you can bet my Hoover of a 2 year old will...

    Maybe I'm just lucky, but we use CVS for our pharmacy and the pharmacist hands me the box that the medication comes in (without the medication in it, of course) and I stand there and call the manufacturer with the appropriate codes. My kids' notes say they can't have gluten and I just explain that our entire house is gluten-free. It's never been an issue...

    I bought one of everything that's certified. The cookies and the granola must be Enjoy Life (the taste is spot on). The kids liked the mini pancakes (not as well as fresh "mom made", but good enough to eat before school).     Sorry - just clarifying a different point. You and two of three kids have celiac and you all live with your husband. His daughter visits on weekends. Husband and step-kid eat gluten at home. Right?? I would have a very difficult time with gluten eaters in my house/car. Mostly because I know how dirty kids can be. Like the toy box/Goldfish scenario...

    I will say that I was overwhelmed when my youngest was DX, but it felt better when the oldest joined her with a DX. Now they weren't alone. And the oldest couldn't be pissed that the baby was forcing all this change in the house. It worked really well for us.     ^^^ Good point. My kids are responsible for feeding the dog and providing treats. We had to switch out all that. I didn't want any chances. FWIW, the dog's coat looks so much better on the grain free diet.

    OP's kid is still really young so I'd recommend making anything on the skin be gluten-free, too. Kids always seem to have their dirty hands in the mouths. Heck, my 8 y/o and her gross little friends can't stop picking their lips and sticking fingers in. Why are kids so weird?

    I ran this process in waves once we got our DX. 1. Had one last "Goodbye to Gluten" party! Friends over to eat out our freezer and pantry. It was awesome fun for the kids. We had so many desserts of just gluteny goodness! 2. Got rid of all gluten containing food. Friends, food bank, a family on Craigslist took all the expired things. ANYTHING opened...
