  1. Welcome James. Like ravenwoodglass I have had anxiety too and reading this forum have concluded it is a celiac thing for some. On the whole is better but for me it tends to come back when I am stressed about something like a project deadline and I think that gluten sneaking in may well have a part to play too. Forgive me as I may have missed something...

    ARCHIVED Canker sores

Another thought. I had two similar episodes of terrible canker sores a few years apart. They came on really quickly and both times I discovered I had them because when I was eating it felt like there was glass in my marmalade! Both episodes occurred before my celiac diagnosis and I just have a feeling it was also to do with anemia. My B12 was...
  3. Great advice. Funny but I have just remembered years ago going through a stage when my feet really burned at night. I'd completely forgotten that. I put it down to chilblains although on reflection I'm pretty sure it was B12 deficiency. B12 is a wonder vitamin and so much goes wrong without it. Open Original Shared Link
  4. Raspberry - a friend (who isn't a celiac but has non celiac gluten sensitivity) and I (a celiac) have both have had all sorts of odd neurological symptoms and neither of us have given up dairy, although have gone gluten free. I have seen some improvement, she has seen huge improvement. I would say definitely try going gluten free but you may need to be...
  5. Good point. I ought to say that I am back to milk now, but not every day - so I think it was to do with blunted villi and recovery that was causing symptoms. I can get away with drinking so much - then I get bloating and mild pain, so I give it a miss for a while then go back to it. But I think gradually it is ceasing to be a problem. That said, I never...
  6. It's always nice to meet a fellow suffer - although I am sorry you have this problem! Also I used to get, when it was at its worse, wierd feelings in my fingers when I unscrewed a jam jar top, for example. Kind of pins and needles. That doesn't happen anymore. Now occasionally I find when I am washing my hands under hot water and wringing my fingers...
  7. Interesting plumbago - I wonder too. When I first tried giving up milk things really improved so I then thought I'd buy some lactofree milk, as I did miss it. TMI but it literally worked like a laxative, and very quickly! I can't help wondering there must be something else in milk. Or do you think they don't quite remove all the lactose? Maybe they are...
  8. It is interesting you have ulnar nerve issues. Me too, left and right. Starting really playing up just before diagnosis - I was always waking up with numb fingers, hands or lower arms. So I think gluten had a bearing. I had the tests and have a confirmed diagnosis for that one.
  9. Ironictruth, I think you could be onto something. Get him/her to check your sacroiliac joints too, they cause all sorts of referred pain. Cstark - I have had this sort of pulsating buzzing in my face in the past, it waxes and wanes. Doc thinks I have mild neuralgia. Triggers seem to be poor neck position and also cold wind on my face. Caffeine too...
  10. Hi Ironictruth I'm just wondering if this is nerve impingement? Any pain in your hip/back area?
  11. Hi Buckarett Can you describe where these tremors/vibrations are? Also, do you know what your B12 levels are? Sometimes a clinic will say you have normal B12 but by other countries' standards they would not be considered normal. It could be you are still deficient. That said, I would say it is just possible it is connected to anxiety. I...
  12. My liver function tests showed I had elevated gamma globulin levels for about six months prior to diagnosis which worried my doctors. They came down to normal after I adopted a strict gluten-free diet. I have never drunk alcohol so it just goes to show that gluten alone can cause odd liver function tests! I have a book here, 'Celiac for Dummies',...
  13. Hi Margaret This may be no help at all but at my surgery a wait for up to three weeks is not unusual. I live in the UK - not sure if this wait is because of a backload of cases or something to do with the actual test requiring more time than the average blood test. I just mention this in case you're in the UK, too. I wasn't bothered that my tests...
  14. I got all sorts of weird pains after going gluten free. One nasty pain was to do with my sacroiliac joints which apparently often affects celiacs but it seemed to refer to my groin, my lower back, my abdomen. It was there much of the time but played up particularly badly when I walked, which was a pain in itself as I love walking. Now I am grateful to say...
  15. I've just had my flu jab. I had two doctors (GPs) in attendance - one was inputting data on the computer, another was asking all the questions. I am living in Britain so it could be that things are a bit different here but aside the normal questions, "Have you had a flu jab before?" and "Why are you having this?" (I've just discovered that coeliacs in the...
  16. Hi cstark I have a buzzing sensation in my right ear/sensation of fullness, since 2013 I think. According to my ENT it is a kind of tinnitus but at times it really feels as if something is actually buzzing around at the back of my head, if that makes sense? I too have been MRI'd to check but there was nothing there - apart from a brain, I am glad...
  17. Ironictruth - sorry you have had this too but I find it reassuring to know that there are others on this board with the same issues. Even though neuro problems are a well-documented issue for some celiacs I have only ever met one celiac personally - i.e. not on this forum, in person - with distinct neuro issues since my DX. However I do know another girl...
  18. Hi cstark Running up to the time of my diagnosis - and for some time afterwards - I suffered a lot of twitching in my face: my eyelids twitched and the strangest things brought it on - sometimes even bending over to load the dishwasher! I had weird twitching sensations in my cheeks; I had twitching in my legs and arms occasionally; lots of buzzing and...
  19. This subject is often raised on this site, especially by women. I am prompted to raise it again today, having spoken to my doctor who has said that she has noticed that celiacs often have thin hair, especially in later years. Rather than just accept what she thinks is just the inevitable I would really like to hear from anyone who really has seen...

  21. Susan Nash - this is interesting. Do you know anyone who has had success with supplements? My doctor has just said to me that she has noticed a lot of celiac ladies have thinner hair in later life. Obviously, that is just her observation. But I am going to ask for some vitamin and mineral testing so I can supplement any shortfall in case that is a...
  22. I got terrible anxiety prior to my celiac diagnosis, like a bolt from the blue. Didn't even know what it was, it felt so alien. My doctor diagnosed citalopram. I then found my B12 and iron was low so supplemented these, and I am quite sure that especially the B12 made a difference sometimes within the hour of taking it. It is worth checking you are not...
  23. Hi Pegleg My gastroenterologist here in the UK said to me that he thought my lower left abdominal pain was IBS, possibly related to dairy. I had all sorts of tests - ultrasounds, gynaecolgical, and finally a sigmoidoscopy. All appeared to be fine. My specialist then told me to just buy lactofree products i.e. dairy products with the lactose removed...
  24. Hello Kitty Well I had chills in my first year post diagnosis, I remember two specific instances. On one occasion I was walking home along a path eating licorice allsorts - a type of English sweet - because I had read licorice had iron in it and it was good for anemia. Good excuse! I remember feeling chills and my shins itched. Got home and checked...
