  1. Wow, thank you again to everyone for your replies! I have recently been looking into the "Specific Carbohydrates Diet", (it's said to be good for people with any auto immune disorder, ranging from Ulcerative colitis to celiac disease) and I am hoping that helps with all of my symptoms. I cut out soda/all drinks apart from water (mostly) a long time ago, but...
  2. Thank you for the replies! I definitely don't think I have a corn intolerance. I guess it's possible, but I've never noticed a reaction with it, and I've been eating it more now since my diagnosis. I am lactose intolerant and I still eat dairy - but far less than I used to, and I take lactaid pills. 1desperatelady - I have been gluten free for five months...
  3. I know some people experience major bloating after eating foods with gluten in them...but I have been bloated almost non stop, even after cutting gluten out of my diet. My stomach is huge, I have no idea why the bloating won't go down. I am pretty careful, even going so far as to eliminate hand sanitizers and shampoos with gluten in them. I read that...
  4. Hmm, it was worth a shot! Thank you, I was thinking I'd have to special order one from a bakery because I wasn't finding any results. I hope I can find something!
  5. Does anyone know of any brands that make pre-made gluten free cheesecakes? I would rather find one that is pre-made than find a recipe...my kitchen is nowhere near gluten free so it will be much easier if I can just find one I can pick up at the store to bring with me. Thanks in advance!
  6. My mom usually would use either cream of cheddar, or cream of chicken because she, my dad and sister don't like mushrooms. (My boyfriend doesn't either, but I think he would try it just to be supportive) My family won't want to eat it if I use a mushroom soup, so I was hoping to find a gluten free cheddar soup substitute that would work similarly. It would...
  7. Would something like this work? Open Original Shared Link
  8. Wow! Both recipes look great. I'm not sure how it's going to go...my family might not be willing to eat the gluten free recipe and in that case, I will have to make two separate dishes. Funyons are an interesting idea. Would gluten free onion rings work, assuming I can find them? There is a restaurant near my house, (99% gluten free, it's great!) worst...
  9. Ah! This is my first gluten free Thanksgiving, and one of my favorite dishes is the green bean casserole. Unfortunately, 2 of the main ingredients are not gluten free. Besides the green beans, we use the French's Fried onions, and Campbells cream of cheddar soup (or cream of chicken, etc etc) Any suggestions for what to substitute these with? I've...
  10. Hi! This will be my first gluten free Thanksgiving as well, and I am celebrating it with my parents, sister and boyfriend - all gluten eaters. So, this is what I am doing - I will have my own separate turkey breast. My parents usually stuff the turkey with regular stuffing, so I'll need to have my turkey separate. There are recipes for gluten frees stuffing...
  11. So, after reading through other forums on this site - I have concluded that yes, I do need to take probiotics..and the brand of choice seems to be Culturelle. That is fine with me, since apparently it is sold at Walmart and other local drug stores. I should have no issues finding it. My question is - how long do you take the probiotics? I mean, are you...
  12. Thanks! I appreciate that. I will definitely ask you. About the hot chocolate - how much do you use of each item? How much almond milk, how much stevia, etc? I definitely need an exact recipe to follow, otherwise I'll somehow mess it up
  13. You do have to be careful about cross contamination wherever you go - sorry, I forgot to add that! I haven't gotten sick from any of the pizza places i go to. They usually put the pizza on a separate pan/tin foil before it goes in the oven so that it doesn't touch the oven rack. Sometimes the restaurant's kitchen standards will be printed right on their...
  14. So a few Fridays ago, my boyfriend and I ordered takeout from a restaurant with a gluten free menu. We had eaten there before. I got the roasted organic vegetables, he got a quesadilla. Both meals had "gluten-free" next to them on the menu. When we brought the food home, I realized mine came with a small bread loaf. It certainly LOOKED gluten free,(you know...
  15. ! Great to know, I haven't tried quinoa yet, but a few friends have recommended it simply because they like it. I'll have to give it a try. What probiotics do you take? Should I give the Align another shot, should I go to another brand?
  16. Whoa! You weren't kidding! I clicked on it and a bunch of restaurants came up. This is awesome, thank you! Hmm, I don't know NYC very well at all. I couldn't even tell you where we were, really. I know last time we were there we hit Central Park and the museum of Natural History. (both were awesome!) so I guess restaurants around that vicinity, and nearby...
  17. I did know that idiopathic meant that there was no known cause for it. The CNS could be just thrown in...it was just very concerning that I could not stay awake no matter how I struggled and I was always tired. :\ The only option for treatment is a strong/expensive medicine? It was ridiculous. I have found that I have more energy since giving up gluten...
  18. I've always been interested in the chocolate covered chips - I can't remember why I never tried them! If I liked bacon I would definitely try the chocolate covered bacon. Chocolate can make (almost) anything taste better. Have you tried chocolate covered sunflower seeds? I think they're called Sundrops. They're really good, but idk if they're gluten free...
  19. That's actually good to know! I have a friend that moved to NYC for a job, so my friends and I will probably be visiting him soon! Whenever I go on vacation I look up restaurants in the area using 'findmeglutenfree' it's been very helpful. Do you have any recommendations for restaurants in NYC? We could be visiting him as early as next month.
  20. I already sent my boyfriend a text after I saw this post, telling him I need to try them. His response : "Ew" Ugh I can't wait!
  21. It's definitely good to keep in mind, but I don't think I have an issue with corn. I eat popcorn quite frequently, as well as steamed corn with other steamed vegetables. I don't think it's causing any issues, but I'll keep an eye out on it. It couldn't hurt to get some food intolerance tests done, does the allergist do this or can I ask my primary doctor...
  22. Hmm,...what about quinoa? Is that a suitable replacement for rice? I don't think I can remove rice from my diet permanently, but I can definitely cut back. As for lentils, I can definitely cut back on them, too. I do like the lentil soup..but it was mainly because I was sick...I just wanted soup. I think I should be taking probiotics, I'll look into Culturelle...
  23. That's certainly good to hear. It hasn't happened with me in awhile either - this is the first time since I've been diagnosed, I think. It was happening pretty frequently before. What is scary is that sometimes I toss and turn and end up on my stomach with my face in the pillow..and then the paralysis would set in and I was suffocating, I couldn't breathe...
  24. No, I didn't see that segment - but I would feel exactly the same way as you did. When I was diagnosed, I had only been with my boyfriend for about 10 days. He loves pizza, so we had been trying out a bunch of new restaurants near the area. Meanwhile I was getting very sick all the time, so I was skipping meals here and there and not eating much whenever...
