  1. I will never understand why doctors still have people do that innane gluten challenge for a biopsy--when the blood test and the dietary response are highly positive I had a lot of the same symptoms as you did--and my doctors said and did pretty much the same thing. It wasn't until I heard about gluten intolerance and saw a GI on my own and asked him...
  2. Armetta--they will be fine with the Spectrum, I'm sure. I substitute it for butter or margarine all the time. Never had a problem!
  3. Aw--a big hug coming your way And if I only knew how to trade in the old immune system and intestine... Anyway, how long have you been gluten-free? I should know, but I get mixed up sometimes So many new people!
  4. Hi Lynne, My heart aches for what you're going through. Things have a way of working themselves out--although it's a mystery to me why sometimes we have to go through hell to get there. Two years ago I was so sick constantly that I didn't even get out of bed until it was almost time for the guys to come home. I was scared, depressed and paranoid...
  5. Hi and welcome to the board! It looks like you just did a "quote" successfully! If you just want to add a comment to a thread, go all the way to the end of that thread and hit "reply". If you would like to start a new topic (thread), go to the home page and select the forum that is appropriate. At the top right, hit "new Topic". Your new thread...
  6. Gail and Lisa--I'm with the two of you! I wash my hands the minute I walk back into the house no matter where I've been. Doorknobs, ATM machines, the afore mentioned shopping carts, etc...there are germs lurking everywhere--I don't think that the handwashing and not touching your face is excessive--I think it's necessary
  7. Bev--I'm so sorry to hear of all this. It just dosen't seem fair sometimes....
  8. Those sound good! Thanks
  9. Yes! I was so glad to hear that they will run a series of episodes, take a break, and run the rest of them with no reruns. I agree it's hard enough to follow, and having a rerun or 4 in between makes it worse!
  10. I just noticed she dosen't have any pants on! I'm originally from Syracuse Our families are still there, so we are up there a few times a year. Love the fall in central NY--when our kids were young, we'd take drives out to "apple country"--Tully, and around there. Many years ago, my husband and I ate at a very nice Italian restaurant on the main...
  11. I have to ask--what are y'all looking at out the window?
  12. I do use Nestles Chocolate Chips in my cookies. I've not noticed any problems from them--I'm careful otherwise to avoid dairy, and I don't eat them every day.
  13. Come to think of it, I was tested for "spice mix" also during my allergy testing last spring. It was negative, so I didn't ask any questions about it.
  14. I can't believe this Alfred has his own thread with 10 posts!
  15. I used to get swolen glands in my neck quite often pre gluten-free. Mine weren't in the back of my neck, they were behind my ears or down under my jawline. They were sometimes painful--and I felt sick all over with them. In the 14+ months I've been on the gluten-free diet, I haven't had them once. Susie--I like your new picture, how nice to...
  16. Last year, I used Whole Foods Sandwich Bread. I cut it into cubes, spread it on a baking sheet, sprinkled heavily with poultry seasoning and baked it at 325 till the cubes were hard. The stuffing came out really good! This year, I plan to make my own bread with potato starch (Roben Ryberg's recipe from "The Gluten Free Kitchen"), since the WF breads...
  17. Before I'd suspect the carrots, I would consider an intolerance to legumes.
  18. Thanks a lot, guys--now what am I going to do on Wednesday nights
  19. Lister-- A salad spinner is not something that's necessary at all. I've been cooking for over 30 years, and have never owned one Washing the lettuce under cold, running water is fine--if you want the leaves drier, put them in your collander for a while.
  20. Yes, touching a gluten filled food, and then eating right afterward without washing your hands first would make you sick. And now the whole bag of pretzels would also be contaminated. I agree with the germ analogy--I treat it like that, too. When I describe CC to others, I tend to use salmonella as an example.
  21. OMG--I can't wait, either! I love that show
  22. Wow--that is really interesting! Your son is quite the researcher
  23. Nikki-- I'll be sending my good thoughts your way and saying a prayer for your son It's so much harder when it one of our kids, isn't it? I always wished it could be me instead of them going through these kinds of things. Sorry you have to wait the extra week--that's always hard...
  24. Happy New Year!
