  1. Rachel--I would think that there could be soy in a vegetarian suppliment.
  2. Mango--I reacted terribly to Van's. I thought it was because of CC--but it very well could have been the soy flour. Actually, that makes more sense. Thanks
  3. Oh my God Vincent--that precious little face eating his cookies! Looks like you should leave your recipe just the way it is Did you use the butter? When I used to use butter for baking, I always noticed that it made cookies spread out on the sheet too much, and come out too flat. I hate to say it, (because it's not the healthiest choice) but...
  4. Hi Mia--The separate toaster is really necessary. Way back when I first went gluten-free, I had no idea I shouldn't put my rice bread in my regular toaster. I was making other mistakes in the kitchen, too. After I found this forum and made the necessary changes, there were far less mystery glutenings!
  5. Hi Betty--Try not to worry, I know that's easier said than done! At this point, it could be any number of things. I had it and it turned out to be due to internal hemmoroids. The important thing to remember is that you and your doctor are on top of things, and that's the key. I will keep you in my thoughts
  6. Poor little thing--make sure he gets a lot of liquids so he dosen't get dehydrated
  7. Armetta--I'm sensitive to soy but find that the lecithan and the oil don't bother me. It's the soy milk, protein and flour that I can't take. I really don't like using the Crisco, because of the soy, and also because it's hydrogenated. When I use it up, that's it. It makes things taste good, but it's not all that healthy--IMO! Oh, when you make the cookies...
  8. Mine weren't gummy at all--kind of a light, tender texture. Of course, I used an egg--that could have made the difference. I didn't use butter, either--I used Crisco. Normally, I would have used Spectrum Shortening, but I'm almost out and have not gotten to Whole Foods for a while. I thought about using my Smart Balance margarine, but was afraid it would...
  9. Yea guys, that happens to me too ! I know now that it only happens when I eat something I"m intolerant to. I have spent the last several months going back and forth testing myself and I *think* I have finally narrowed the list to what is in my signature. Only time will tell, though
  10. If it's happening in the bathroom while he's trying to go, it could be a urinary tract infection. Is that the only time it happens?
  11. Hi Susie-- I think it's possible to have a gluten reaction without GI symptoms. How bad are they usually when you are glutened? I always get the GI stuff, but also all of the other things you mentioned--even the achey muscles. Usually, for me, it's my legs. I know how confusing it can be sometimes trying to figure out how it happened. It can drive...
  12. Armetta--Yes, potato starch and potato starch flour are the same thing. Good luck with the cookies
  13. Well guys, I finally bought my ice cream machine!!! I got the Cuisinart--the same one Vincent has. (it was $49.99 and I had a $60 gift card still from my birthday, so it worked out perfect!) I washed and dried the parts and put the bowl in the freezer. Tomorrow (or tonight if the bowl freezes) I'm going to make chocolate ice cream! It has to be at...
  14. Well, for Mr. Innocent, and everyone else--the cookies were so good even my non gluten-free husband liked them. I bought some more potato starch today while I was out so I could make more this week--they're almost gone
  15. It sounds like it could be TMJ Disorder to me. I was diagnosed with it by an ENT several years ago. I had the same pain in the jaw as you describe, and also neck pain that was much worse in the morning. Sometimes, even my shoulders and ear would ache. I also clenched my teeth at night while sleeping (bruxism). The doctor sent me to my dentist to have...
  16. Here is a link in case you can't find the Vance's in a store--I live in NJ, and there are no stores in my area that carry it-- Open Original Shared Link
  17. In his case, it didn't seem to be connected to anything he was eating--and yes, he did grow out of it.
  18. Yep--they're fine! I buy them myself sometimes
  19. Hi Mindy-- Yes, it can be very frusterating! The only thing you can really do is move on and find a substitute. Lots of people like Lundberg Rice Cakes. Maybe try those if you have a Whole Foods nearby.
  20. I know for sure that Fisher Roasted Salted Almonds are gluten-free. I called to verify.
  21. Hi Mia-- When my younger son was about that age, he had eczema behind both knees. It was very itchy, and sounds a lot like what you describe. The doctor prescribed a cream called Elocon, and it worked very well. Eczema does tend to reoccur. Hope you get it figured out, and she's feeling better soon!
  22. Hi and welcome to the board! First, you must be gluten free--not just wheat free. Gluten is found in barley and rye as well as wheat. Most oats in the US are contaminated also, so at this point it's probably best to stay clear of those, too. You need to look at your foods, beverages, personal care products and vitamins and meds. Gluten can not...
  23. Yep--it does make the water more cloudy than regular pasta! I think it's just the nature of rice pasta
  24. Pasta in the shape of rice is called "orzo". Maybe you got the two names mixed up?
