  1. Oh Nini--that sounds awful!!! Sorry you're so sick. I am always amazed at how little it takes to make us sick. Feel better
  2. OMG--Matilda, this is what happens to me--I've never heard anyone describe it so perfectly! I also find that when I stretch, my calf muscles lock up, and I have to stand up immediately with all of my weight on the leg or it goes into a full on cramp.
  3. Since I have issues with dairy and soy, I really can't do flavored chips I do love Lay's Natural Ripples, though.
  4. Hi--Here is a link to safe alcoholic beverages-- https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-12106075273.ec For personal care products, begin by reading the labels. If there is nothing obvious there, you can call the company and ask them to be sure. You can do a search here for shampoo or makeup and tons of products and information will come up...
  5. I would ask the doctor what they tested you for already. I would think that the blood testing would be a lot cheaper than the endo/biopsy. Like I said, the blood tests for Celiac are very specific. If you come back positive with them, you could choose to go gluten-free at that point and if it helps, just stay with it. I posted the link so you would know...
  6. Another good one is www.gluten free.com (I can't get the link to work).
  7. Hi Lister--welcome! Please try and relax. You seem to have symptoms that could point to Celiac. It's good that your doctor is considering that as a possibility. What I don't agree with is telling you to begin the diet now, when you are scheduled for your tests. As uncomfortable as it is, if you are to have a biopsy that is accurate, you need to be...
  8. We're always interested in new recipes and meal ideas! That was so kind of you to offer.
  9. Next time, use the dog water on your finger to seal the envelope! So far, I've stopped myself just in the nick of time. Hope you don't get sick
  10. I've had my thyroid checked regularly. Everything is always within the normal range. Before I was gluten-free, I had a dip in each thumbnail. I also had very brittle toenails--one of them actually broke off after a very minor bump against the shower stall. After 10 months on the diet, all of my nails look so much better--thumbnails are completely normal...
  11. Hi Coleen--Not very exotic, but I use Kraft Original. It's what I've always used, and it just so happens to be gluten-free!
  12. Carla--What a wonderful family you have! Julie--When I had my sons, I didn't know I had Celiac. After we were married, my husband and I deceided to let nature take it's course. I didn't get pregnant for 5 years--I had my first son, and 3 years later, my second! With the first, I was nauseous for 8 months--with the second, after nausea for the first...
  13. Can't wait!! Thanks for reminding us
  14. Right on, Laura! Also, while it's true that modified food starch can be from wheat, a lot of companies will list any gluten ingredients clearly on the label. Kraft (Nabisco), Unilever, Hershey, Nestles, Con Agra--to name a few off the top of my head. With those companies, if it lists the MFS--and nothing else, you can assume it's safe. Of course, *when...
  15. Hi Cali--welcome to the board!! I would suggest, for now, a diet of meat, poultry and fish--all prepared simply. Also, fruit, veggies (cooked), rice, olive oil, and pure water. At the beginning of a gluten-free diet, especially, dairy products can be hard to digest. I had to do this for a while while I was figuring out all of my intolerances. It's...
  16. Hi Bre--Glad you found this forum--there is so much information to be found here. I would suggest seeing your doctor immediately and have him run the Celiac Blood Panel. Here is a link to the tests and some more info-- Open Original Shared Link Since you already know you have villi damage, you could just go gluten-free now and see how you feel...
  17. Works for me--I think we figured that one out
  18. yea, I do. I don't know why--possibly the dairy CC? The Stax also have many ingredients, whereas the chips are only potato, oil and salt.
  19. Hi Sheri--welcome! Two weeks really isn't enough time to be back on gluten after going off for a while. It takes more like 3 months of eating gluten every day. The stool tests that doctors do won't tell you a thing about Celiac. Since you had a positive blood result, if you don't feel you need the biopsy, you could just go gluten-free now. Of course...
  20. Yes--I've been dairy free for 2 years now, while only gluten-free for just under a year. I react to small amounts of dairy as well.
  21. Hi CarolAnne! Welcome I found what your doctor told you very interesting. I am 50, diagnosed almost a year ago. I was never underweight--always 20 lbs or so more than I wanted. Right before I was dx, I was very sick and lost 15 lbs pretty quickly. After going gluten-free, I regained that weight in 2 months and have put on another 10. Since I went...
  22. I'm not familiar with Trader Joe's brands and I have had problems with Whole Foods Brands so I don't buy them anymore. I use Heinz Ketchup--I know that's safe. However, Heinz Organic Ketchup is NOT gluten-free.
  23. They're not made on dedicated lines--I am extremely sensitive and have never reacted to them and I eat them often. But, as we know, reactions are an individual thing. Good luck on your junk food quest
  24. Betty--I'm sorry you're still in such pain I hope Ursula's remedy works for you. I wish I had more to offer
