  1. I had one the same day as my endo/biopsy. I was 49 at the time, and have a family history of colon cancer, so even though I had dreaded it for a long time, agreed to have it. The procedure itself was a snap. I was asleep the whole time, and woke up with no ill effects whatsoever. The prep the day before was unpleasant, though. That was by far the worst...
  2. Hi Debbie--welcome in! I'm sorry to hear of your son's difficulties. If you want a firm diagnosis, he will need to keep eating gluten until he can be tested. Since he has had a positive result with the blood testing, they will probably do a endoscopy/biopsy of the small intestine. If you will be interviewing other doctors, ask if they treat any Celiac...
  3. Actually, in the absence of dairy foods in your diet, you will absorb more of the calcium in your foods. Dark green leafy veggies, almonds, molassas, figs, salmon, calcium fortified oj and beans all are sources of calcium.
  4. If you order your cold cuts from the deli counter (as opposed to buying the pre-packaged kind), you need to ask the salesperson to clean the slicer they will be using for your order. Of course, you still have to check and make sure what you order is gluten-free--not all prepared meats are. I think the safest way to go is to buy the pre-packaged kind that...
  5. mamaw--You said a mouthful there! It's a darn shame
  6. Lollie--I looked it back up, and this is what I thought would give me problems--it contains fermented milk, soy and cornstarch Open Original Shared Link I don't know if you are sensitive to any of these things, but I think that what happened with me, and maybe what happened with you, is that the small amounts taken daily didn't cause any reaction...
  7. I use pure maple syrup
  8. This is strange--I responded to your post, and it disappeared. Anyway, I remember you telling us about your new vitamins. I looked them up, thinking I might want to try them, too. There was something in there, I can't remember what, that I knew I couldn't tolerate. Also, recently, I tried Culturelle--a probiotic. I was fine for the first 4 days or so...
  9. Gee Bronco--I hope it works out well for you! I'm afraid of oats
  10. Hi Lollie--Sorry you are feeling so bad ! I remember when you talked about you new vitamins--I thought they sounded good, and I checked them out, thinking I may try them. I can't remember why, but when I read the ingredients that day, I knew I couldn't tolerate them. Recently, I tried Culturelle--a probiotic. I did very well for the first 4-5 days. ...
  11. Actually, I did know that--people who were on the board last January may remenber Caeli--a priest who came to the board with some questions. He told us that 'caeli' meant 'sky' or 'heaven'. It looks to me that Fairydust is telling us what her name means--not what Celiac means.
  12. Hi Fairydust--I like the way you think, and I'm glad you're here! Welcome
  13. It's called--"Celiac Disease--A Hidden Epidemic". It's by Peter H.R. Green, MD and Rory Jones.
  14. Thanks Charlie--I know there is something in there that dosen't like me!
  15. Hi Amy--In Dr. Green's book, Celiac Disease-A Hidden Epidemic, he recommends that the screening tests be repeated every five years, or in the presence of symptoms in family members.
  16. Hi Codetalker--so glad you got to the bottom of it!!
  17. Chelsea--you out there? Don't leave us in suspense--how did the cake turn out?
  18. So happy to hear that!
  19. Hi Ronnie--Yes, it usually takes a period of time for a reaction to run it's course. The time varies with the individual. For instance, recently I was glutened through CC--a product that was marked gluten-free, but was somehow contaminated. I was sick with D, nausea, cramping, etc. for about 5 days. I ate nothing with gluten (after the inital slip-up...

  21. Everyone else had good suggestions for your food. I'm sorry for your loss--have a safe trip.
  22. It sounds like the shingles were the trigger for her Celiac. A virus, as well as surgery, pregnancy or a traumatic event can all trigger the disease. In my case, it was surgery.
  23. Jocelyn--I'm so sorry that happened to you. What that doctor said has made me so mad--what planet is he living on? 20% of diagnosed Celiacs are obese according to Dr. Green's new book. There are plenty of overweight Celiacs--I being one of them! Nobody WANTS to have Celiac--its just that so many of us have been mis or undiagnosed for so long that when...
  24. Liz--I know you have come to terms with everything, but I felt so bad when I read about your dad and grandmother. What a terrible time for you--your dad dying that way--and right before your wedding. You can't help but wonder what their lives (and the rest of you) would have been like if gluten had been identified as their root problem. So sad. I really...
  25. Yes--that's what happened to me with the enzymes. I don't know what's going on with some of their stuff. I am very curious to know what they find out on the almond butter. Maybe they've gotten a lot of complaints and are investigating the individual products.
