ARCHIVED Please Help Me Find The Hidden Gluten In My Dinner
jerseyangel replied to tiffjake's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Hi Tiff--my first thought that it could have been CC from the grill or something in their kitchen--that's always a possibility. The other thing is that possibly you were not completely over the last gluten episode. I react for a week or two each time--but the symptoms like D can seem to ease up for a day or so and then act up again. Kind of takes a couple... -

ARCHIVED Glutened Aaaagain...
jerseyangel replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm not sure--they probably are. I thought their brownies were delicious--but both times I ate them, I got sick. Now, I'm strictly a GFP girl! -
I need this thread! Since going gluten-free 10 months ago, I've put back on all the weight I lost when I was sick--plus about 15 more. Pretty soon, none of my clothes are going to fit me anymore!! Tiffany, as usual, your advice was sound and sensible. I have lost weight successfully in the past--once by low fat, and more recently by Atkins (3 years ago...

ARCHIVED Glutened Aaaagain...
jerseyangel replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Don't know if this will be helpful, but I always feel glutened from Pamela's stuff. I just don't buy it anymore. Do you use their products normally, or is this the first time? -
ARCHIVED My Kitchenaid Collection? Almost Complete!
jerseyangel replied to lorka150's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Happy graduation--congratulations!!! Enjoy the Kitchenaid--I have one but don't have any attachments. Still a great machine -
Yep--putting a slice of bread (or an apple wedge) in brown sugar to keep it soft is an old trick. Thanks for reminding us that Outback still does this. If you really want the brown sugar on your sweet potato, just put some in a small zip lock bag at home, and bring it with you in your purse. (or a companion's purse, if you're a male!)

ARCHIVED Fast Food Places...subway?...
jerseyangel replied to liveforlove's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Hi welcome in! I take it that you are diagnosed with Celiac or are gluten intolerant. If so, you can not have anything containing wheat, barley, rye or oats. That would include all "regular" breads--like the kind at Subway. Celiacs can eat breads made from other grains like rice, buckwheat, tapioca. You can find those in health food stores and places... -
The only trigger seems to be summer (hot weather). Gee, I know Elidel is specificly for eczema--although I've never tried it. I don't know what else to suggest--I'm sure you've tried hydrocortisone cream--the OTC stuff. Have you had a doctor look at it?

ARCHIVED Newbie With Too Many Questions Help!
jerseyangel replied to jen3175's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Jen--No such thing as too many questions! At 2 weeks, it's still way too early for you to have done much healing. At this point, it's best to stick to whole, naturally gluten-free food. This would include fresh fruits and vegetables (cooked), meats, poultry, fish, pure water, olive oil. Wait a while for the prepared things and nuts, etc. Be patient... -
ARCHIVED Emotional Reaction From Gluten? Do You Get This?

I did the exact same thing! I've been there, too. She seemed ok to me, also. -
Elonwy--I love the phrase "I come with instructions"! If you don't mind, I'm going to use it myself--I'm okay with explaining what I need, I just never know what to say first. Thanks for a great opening line

ARCHIVED Constant Gas
jerseyangel replied to odcdinah's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It could be something still in your diet that is causing it. I found that dried fruit and almonds were causing me to have excessive, embarassing gas. I had been eating Lara Bars--which I love--and dates and almonds as snacks. I had tried cutting out the obvious sources--onions, fruits, etc. None of that worked. I ran out of the bars, and tried cutting... -
ARCHIVED Megan's First Birthday
jerseyangel replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Glad to hear she had such a nice birthday! Hope the new food is successful. August 15--I will remember her in my prayers. -
Hi Chelsea--I'm really sorry to hear about your grandpa. He sounds like a 'fighter'. It's possible that he could rally--doctors have been known to be wrong before....My husband's uncle had similar surgery, and eventually did ok and lived a few more years. I will say a prayer for him. I can relate to the not feeling better--I have been gluten-free...

ARCHIVED Emotional Reaction From Gluten? Do You Get This?
jerseyangel replied to tiffjake's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Tiffany--I'm so sorry you're going through all of this right now! I know exactly how you feel--I am a very sensitive person--on a good day. Add gluten *and* a situation like the one you had with your truck, and I would be reacting the same way! Really--I understand taking things to heart that way. The gluten makes it even worse because, for me at least... -
I think that, for sure, the weightloss surgery should be a last resort. I do know a woman, however, that had it done two years ago. She needed serious eye surgery, and her doctor would not do that surgery at her weight. She had the surgery, went through recovery, etc. and then successfully had the eye surgery. Today, she is doing very well. I think every...

ARCHIVED 20 Year Old College Student
jerseyangel replied to lisaemu's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi Lisa--Glad you found us! When I was diagnosed last year, I had never heard of Celiac--much less knew anyone with it. Finding this board has been a lifesaver for me. Drop in anytime--just to chat with others who know exactly what you're going through. There's a wealth of information here, too. Read the older posts and always feel free to ask any questions... -
My son, who is not a Celiac, got an itchy rash behind both knees--like the ones you described. The doctor said it was eczema and prescribed Elocon Cream. It worked well--the doctor also said (and this is if it's eczema) to keep it moisturized. Hope you get to the bottom of it--I know the itching has to be driving you crazy!

ARCHIVED Waiting For Blood Test Results
jerseyangel replied to jennyj's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Jenny--This is so typical of doctors--I know they're busy, but they have to realize how difficult it is to be the person waiting to hear results. I think you've been patient long enough! I would call the office, and request my results again. I would keep calling until you get them. You don't have to be unpleasant about it, just let them know that you... -
