  1. Hi--After much trial and error, I have found that I need to avoid rice. The worst offenders for me are rice flour and rice milk. I'm thinking that's because those are so concentrated.(?) The symptoms I get are abdominal pain (which I did not get before my dx), cramping, low backache, and mild D. These last for a few days, and did not begin until I was...
  2. Hi Jaimi--The nurse was mistaken--it is important to be as close to 100% gluten-free as you can. There are not varying degrees of Celiac, although there are varying degrees of symptoms. Some people are sick for years with debilitating illnesses, and there are Celiacs who have no or very mild symptoms. But the treatment for all Celiacs is the same. The...
  3. Yes, my niece was only 9 when she started.
  4. Hi Carol--A biopsy would be used to confirm a diagnosis, it's not a treatment. She should have run the complete Celiac blood panel--although if you have been on the gluten-free diet for a year, it probably will come back negative. This goes for the biopsy, also. You need to have been consuming gluten for some time before the tests for them to be accurate...
  5. I really like it, too. I keep meaning to subscribe, but forget! I get mine at WF also.
  6. So happy you found a great Allergist--I did, too! Mine is actually treating my reflux as well as my allergy/breathing problems, because he said they go hand in hand. Who needs the cranky old GI anyway! And it's working!!! Hooray for the good ones
  7. Lollie--On my torso and inner forearms, I only get red spots here and there. The rash tends to happen on my face. The itching is widespread, though. I used to use Claritan--just recently, my new allergist put me on Zyrtek, which I like. I know, it's scary when these things happen and it does make me super vigilant I also use a hypoallergenic laundry...
  8. Gee Rusla--get some rest and I hope you feel better soon--you must be exhausted!
  9. I have that peanut butter thing, too. I'm ok with it as long as I don't have it too often--once or twice a week, with days in between.
  10. Rinku--Those were my symptoms at your age. Have you been tested for anemia? Even if you have, a multivitamin with iron might be a good idea. Those only have the MDR of iron in them.
  11. Frankly, mine was worse before I improved my diet--I believe that in my case, cutting dairy foods made a difference. It was worse before--the diet and the mild cleansing (avoid sodium laurel sulfate and other harsh things) have definately made a difference. It's not bad at all now--greatly improved. Since you already practice these things, perhaps the...
  12. Mamaw--I have the Miracle ll also. My sister suggested it to me--she and her husband love it. I liked it, but don't use it too often. You are the only other person I've heard mention it. Sounds like you really love it. I think I'll get it out and give it another try
  13. Hi Lollie--During a gluten reaction, I get a small rash on my face and itching with no rash all over--especially my neck, arms, sides and back. The itching takes a long time to go away.
  14. Rachel--Glad to hear you're ok and everything. Great to hear you figured out about the casein. This whole discussion has been interesting to me. I have been dairy free (for the most part) longer than gluten-free. After I was gluten-free for a few months, and began to have returning symptoms, I became very strict about the dairy, too. I also found that...
  15. Hi Jen--I was diagnosed with it in 2000. I tried metrogel, but honestly didn't see much of a difference. I eased up on my skin care--stopped using Proactiv because of the little cleansing grains. I now use a facial cleanser by MyChelle that I get at Whole Foods. They use very good, soothing natural ingregients--and I called them and they do not use gluten...
  16. Meredith--I just printed out the recipe! Thank you. I love that is dosn't call for any flour at all
  17. Corinne--Hope you find the issues you're looking for. I can't help, as I didn't start buying them until last fall (when I discovered it). It's a great magazine, though
  18. Yes--try it for a few days at least--let me know how you do!
  19. I know what you mean, potatoes can get "old" after a while! I eat potatoes frequently--but I make them in different ways. Also, sweet potatoes. Last week, for the first time, I made spaghetti squash, and it was pretty good! What finally made me suspect the rice, was that I knew SOMETHING was making me sick, and I thought--well, what do I eat every day...
  20. You did not say too much! I was impressed that your doctor took the borderline test seriously--and even admitted it would have been higher if you were still on gluten. I was having similar things going on in December--after being gluten-free for a few months. I had D, but worse, I began to have pain--which I really didn't have before I was dx. Anyway...
  21. Liz--That looks wonderful--I'm definately trying it. It looks easy, too (which is good)
  22. Yep--I react to soy and oatmeal, and that explain why--thanks! BTW Rachel--hope everything is ok, haven't seen you in a while.
  23. Betty--I hope this med will help, it seems like you've been sick for a while now. Let me know how you're doing. And, thanks for the nice PM--that was so sweet of you Does the doctor have any idea why you're so sick?
  24. Yes, people many times will follow your lead--but sometimes it's not what you say that does it, but also how you say it. If you're comfortable with your situation and your response, it will show. I don't really know why full grown adults can act like middle school kids sometimes, in that if you aren't eating and enjoying what everyone else is, there MUST...
  25. I would probably go to Whole Foods and get something from the Gluten Free Bakeshop.
