ARCHIVED Even People Who"know" Don't Know
jerseyangel replied to chrissy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gosh Laura--that sounds almost like a National Lampoon Vacation movie scene! When so many things happen in a short time, you just gotta laugh . And Grandma's comments were the icing on the cake--hope everyone came away fine (except the deer, of course )! -

ARCHIVED 2nd Opinion?
jerseyangel replied to slpinsd's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If the dr. SAW flattening of the villi, and given your symptoms and given the fact that you feel remarkably better on the gluten-free diet--I would say you have it and if it were me, I would just keep on being gluten-free and getting healthy. It could be that the biopsy was taken where there was no damage, or the person who read the biopsy was not experienced... -

jerseyangel replied to tiredofdoctors's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED My Solution To Fast, Easy, Cheap(er) Gluten Free Eating
jerseyangel replied to elonwy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks Elonwy--that sounds like something I could use. I have been making the same dinners over and over--they're good, just stuff we always eat made gluten-free. I'm ready to step up to some different recipes. Nothing complicated, just a little more variety. -
ARCHIVED Any Guidelines For Losing Weight?
jerseyangel replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
On the subject of "the fist"--I have read many times that on a dinner plate, the protein should be able to fit in the palm of your hand. The starch should be about the size of your fist. The rest of the plate should be filled in with veggies. The reason I remember this should tell you how many times I've tried to diet over the years! When I first went... -
ARCHIVED Tootsie Roll Industries, Inc!
jerseyangel replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Vincent--so good to know that my Tootsie Roll Pops are safe Those chocolate ones are the best! -
Hi Stef--I saw your post, but had no experience with diet pills, so I really did not have any input for you. Like Jen said, maybe tonight when more people are on, someone will weigh in. This forum is not in any way a closed group--everyone is welcome here and we do our best to try and help when we can and make newcomers feel welcome. Especially with a...

ARCHIVED So Confused....
jerseyangel replied to danikali's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Dani--I hate for you to be this afraid--I know that when I get a gluten reaction, it has always included some GI symptoms. I have had other symptoms that do vary. Last month, I had a terrible time and had muscle aches (especially in my legs), brain fog & wavy sight, anxiety, nausea as well as D. I can only speak for myself, but each reaction is a bit... -
Couldn't have said it better myself . MS--I had been wondering how you were making out. I hope the job is going good and that your insurance goes into effect soon so you can get to the dr. Are you able to get any more food down? There are so many of us here pulling for you--

ARCHIVED They Thought I Was Crazy And Sickly For Nearly 35 Years.
jerseyangel replied to Timber4est's topic in Doctors
Timber--I read your post with tears in my eyes. I know the feeling only too well--the people around me, who I looked to for support didn't believe anything was "really"wrong. I was always the "sensitive" one, who "thought with her stomach" (I hate that analogy). Even as I got older, I kept it to myself as much as possible to avoid the rolling eyes and... -
ARCHIVED Please Help Me Find The Gluten

Liz--does that come in any other flavors? I can't eat cocoanut . It sounds really good, and I have a TJ's nearby. Thanks -
ARCHIVED Pre celiac disease Diagnosis Question?
jerseyangel replied to rmmadden's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Donna--Thanks for taking the time to post all of that info. It's a little gross to think about all of that happening in my throat. I do still have my tonsils, so that could be it. Anyway, it seems to be gone--hasen't happened since I 've been gluten-free. Thanks again! -
That's how I always was when I would try to diet! If I did it with gluten, I'd be in some big trouble!

ARCHIVED Balance Bars
jerseyangel replied to danikali's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Although I don't know how much of a difference there would be in terms of how much of a reaction, I would think that products made on the same equipment would have more of a potential to be contaminated than something made just in the same building. But in my experience, and not knowing how close the machines are, the amount of flour in the air, etc, I... -
ARCHIVED Balance Bars
jerseyangel replied to danikali's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Dani--Sorry you're feeling so bad . I have gotten reactions often from products made on the same lines or in the same facility as wheat. There are a few exceptions, but usually when I see that warning, I skip it. -
Recently, my husband's Aunt told me she knows someone with Celiac. She told me the same thing--after 3 or 4 years (I don't know how she arrived at that time frame) I would "be able to eat gluten once in a while and get away with it". I told her that even if a person eats it and has no outward symptoms, they are still doing damage to their intestine. The...

ARCHIVED New Here -diet Question
jerseyangel replied to SusanRachel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I find that it's not difficult at all to make most any food that I ate before gluten-free. I just substitute any gluten ingredients with safe ones. There are many alternative flours, potato and corn starches to thicken, crumbled gluten-free bread for bread crumbs, brands to get familiar with that will list any gluten on the label, gluten-free baking mixes... -
ARCHIVED Any "home-canners" Out There?
jerseyangel replied to jenvan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I have a raised bed in my front yard (enclosed in stacked stone) that I grow perennials in. It looks so nice all the way from spring to the first frost. Not much work, either--I live in a subdivision, but prefer a natural look to the landscaping. It's pretty random--I have purchased plants and have some dug from my sister's yard which we wrapped well for... -
ARCHIVED Laundry Detergent?
jerseyangel replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Gluten-wise, no. But a lot of us have a problem with itching and have discussed it in other threads--I just didn't feel like searching through for that thread--I just picked this one with the appropriate title -
Hi Kim, and welcome! What caught my eye first was your name--are you in upstate NY? I'm from Syracuse. Anyway, I totally relate to the dreams. Before I began the diet, I rarely remembered my dreams--now, they are more vivid and I remember them (too) often! Weird combos of people and places from very different times in my life. Strange

ARCHIVED Another Question
jerseyangel replied to 4tomorrow's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi--feel free to ask all the questions you want . It is common to feel sick all or most of the time before a Dx or going gluten-free. Although some Celiacs get no GI symptoms, I do, and before gluten-free, I never knew when I was going to get sick, and I didn't associate it with any particular foods at the time. (I had no idea about gluten--had never... -
ARCHIVED Laundry Detergent?
jerseyangel replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wanted to pass this along.. CVS has their own brand of Free and Clear laundry detergent. It's $3.99 for a 100 oz. jug. That's at least $2 less than any of the other brands I've used. I find that it works just as well as Purex and All (free & clear versions).
