As everyone has said, they do not contain gluten. -
ARCHIVED How Many Do Whole Foods Only?
tarnalberry replied to heathenly's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Mostly. I cook fairly simple, but my husband doesn't like standard prepackaged stuff, and I'm mostly dairy free too, which takes out lots of items. I buy things like tamari and ketchup (what household with a toddler could be without ketchup!?) and so on, though I usually make my own salad dressings (my husband uses the storebought one ). I buy rice cakes... -

Home made muffins are a big hit here (and we keep them in the freezer for a snack). Beans, burgers on lettuce, smoothies (though this might be tricky with fructose intolerance), apples and peanut butter (or rice cakes and peanut butter), chicken, stir fry of all kinds, lentil soup, ... In a situation like that, I generally bring leftovers, 'cause I don't want to cook. -

I do homemade teriyaki sauce. Soy sauce, mirin, ginger, and pineapple juice. Cook down until thickened (as much as you want it thickened. (I make this without cooking, marinate stuff in it, then cook the leftover marinade down. Marinade cooks down while chicken grills, though takes some attention, so doesn't have to add much time to making dinner.) -

ARCHIVED Need Help With A Snack.
tarnalberry replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Beans? Eggs? You can make crackers from beans (and gluten-free flours like arrowroot) and can make eggs so many different ways. You could make muffins, but add things like flax and chia seed to round out the nutritional content. (Muffins freeze well, in general, so you can make a huge batch once or twice a month and have them around.) What about veggies... -
ARCHIVED Yoga
tarnalberry replied to ~**caselynn**~'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
As a yoga teacher myself, I'm biased, I know, but I would *highly* recommend going to a class with a decent teacher. A DVD cannot look at YOUR alignment and keep you safe. A DVD cannot get the details of what's bothering you and helping you tailor poses to your condition. Even if financial considerations mean you go to a class once or twice a month and... -

tarnalberry replied to LexiBrowni's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
FWIW, if you learn to pick your salad's carefully, you CAN fill up on them. Salads with cheese, meats, eggs, and beans are in particular going to be the most filling. That said, four months is a short time compared to 18 years, or even thirty or forty years when you consider how long your parents haven't even considered that a food could make someone... -
ARCHIVED Celiac/lactose - Breastfeed Vs. Bottle
tarnalberry replied to SmileyKylie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Kellymom.com has the information you need, and cites all of their sources in their articles. Unless you are *severely* malnourished (think famine in a third world country), your body prioritizes your baby and your milk over you. With the exception of a few things (vitamin D, for instance), milk levels do not change in any significance without serious deficiency... -

ARCHIVED Tried Milk And Now Migraine
tarnalberry replied to ShannonA's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Theobromine, the caffeine like substance in migraines, is - as everyone has mentioned - is a known migraine trigger. If you want to test casein as a migraine trigger, try getting lactose-free Milland seeing what your response is. -
ARCHIVED How Bad Is Cheating On The Gluten Free Diet Periodically
tarnalberry replied to icm's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
A study would be fairly useless. Because every study on the disease shows a wide variation in the degree of damage measured. Note, however, that measurable damage is a combination of amount of damage done AND amount of repair done. Some people don't have a super strong damage reaction, but are otherwise healthy enough to repair well, so they show little... -
ARCHIVED I Think I Need To Eat Gluten For Blood Test
tarnalberry replied to srfjeld's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think what skylark is saying is that even if they pay you $1000/wk right now, if you end up with hashimoto's in two years from this "experiment", it's going to be a lot more expensive and painful to pay for meds and the effect on your life for 30-40 years of thyroid disease than a few months of donating plasma. Of course, there's no guarantee that would... -

ARCHIVED Vent/feeling Frustrated In General
tarnalberry replied to Sesara's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Totally my own opinion and a "what I would do" in this situation: go gluten free yourself and wait until you have finished breastfeeding (even if that's three years from now) to go back and gluten and test yourself. You are not "probably" contaminating your son - you are contaminating him. Amounts don't entirely matter. You don't need to consume gluten... -
ARCHIVED Need Major Help With Constipation
tarnalberry replied to MaZoodleTwins's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You've gotten a lot of good advice. Regardless of a strict dairy issue, calcium is binding, and can cause constipation. Reducing dairy or eliminating it may be a good idea. You could also try adding magnesium supplements (or high magnesium foods, but it's hard to get the higher doses). You might want to try probiotics regardless. Not only do c-sections... -

This. A thousand time, this. Your entire first post screams "emotional abuse". Maybe not the hardcore emotional mindgames you hear of sometimes, but emotional abuse none the less. You have to keep yourself safe (your food is included in this) and let him put on his big boy pants when he's good and ready to be an adult. (This, of course, means carefully... -
ARCHIVED No Cheese Pizza- Please Help

Daiya works pretty well on a pizza. It's not quite the same, but it's something. You could also do a bbq chicken pizza, no cheese - bbq sauce, cooked chicken, red onions, bell peppers. -

I wanted to second the idea of going grain free. We do a rotation - we go through four or five foods at a time (he gets something different for morning and evening) - but they are all grain free options. (Our favorites are Instinct and Acana. Orijen was too high in protein for his stomach.)
