ARCHIVED Screaming When Waking Up (And Other Stuff) - Celiac?
tarnalberry replied to treyball3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
While it's certainly worth checking on celiac (I'd even just try the diet myself as testing that young is unreliable), but you might want to consider that all of those things are also simply signs of being over-tired. She may still need two naps, she may have trouble making it through the most active brain cycle during a nap and actually be waking up before... -
ARCHIVED Breastfeeding & Newly Diagnosed... Anyone Else Go Through This?
tarnalberry replied to ErinIsabel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would highly encourage you to work with a lactaction consultant if you think you *actually* have low supply. Honestly, the best thing to increase your supply is to nurse more often (assuming that baby has a good latch). The more you remove from the breast, the more it produces. If you are supplementing, you should at least be pumping as well, to provide... -
ARCHIVED Pity Party, Frustration, How To Lose Weight?
tarnalberry replied to RuskitD's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Have you had your thyroid tested? Your iron levels tested? Your B-vit levels tested? And your vit D levels tested? There are a number of things that could be in play. -
ARCHIVED 3 Years Into gluten-free Diet And Tired Of Being Different
tarnalberry replied to lloydke's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think three years is probably around the time where you stop trying to fit in to the scene, realizing it's futile, and start trying to change the scene instead. Cook for other people, suggest the restaurants, or make suggestions for things to do that don't revolve around our national obsession over food food and more ***forsaken food. It's a rut that... -
ARCHIVED Daughter positive
tarnalberry replied to scstampin's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm the only one in our house with gluten intolerance, and we're almost entirely gluten free. As far as I know, my daughter (2yrs old) does fine with wheat, and she occasionally shares in with daddy's non-gluten-free granola bars, and bread when he buys it from the store. But if she's going to be around me, she eats gluten free. Period. The odds of kids... -
Unless you are the only one in your company that does your job, and unless you have not been formally diagnosed, I would suggest talking to HR or legal in your company about how the ADA law applies in your case. And not from a "I'm going to sue you" perspective, but from a "reasonable allowances required by law", and work WITH them in figuring out a solution...

You should also have your iron levels (free and stored), as low iron is correlated with restless leg.

ARCHIVED Going To Try Giving Up Lactose, Too
tarnalberry replied to Pisqualie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wheat and dairy are two foods, out of every edible item out there. We just live in a culture that is over reliant on these two items. So, other things to ea that you have a good chance of finding in my pantry in the past six weeks Meats - chicken, beef, pork, fish, shellfish, egg Fruits - apples, oranges, peaches, apricots, grapes, berries, bananas... -
ARCHIVED Just So Tired Of It All
tarnalberry replied to BitterGrad's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Edited: I was too harsh (frustration of trying to put a toddler down for a nap... /eye roll) Improved summary: even after 10 years, sometimes it sucks. Having to deal with the kid aspect makes it even more exhausting. It's nice to whine sometimes, and have someone hear you, but nothing fixes the problem until you figure out your own solution. And so,... -
ARCHIVED To Nutritionist Or To Not Nutritionist?
tarnalberry replied to jenn42's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think it's a really personal decision. If you feel like you have a reasonable knowledge of nutrition, and food, then I'd skip it. If you feel that you would benefit from some information from a "professional", then by all means. Keep in mind that nutritionists vary WIDELY in their quality, and some may know next to nothing about a gluten free diet. ... -
Besides changing your workout patterns and your eating patterns, you may just be at a place that your body is happiest with. If you haven't changed how you're using your body in the past two or three months, though, I'd certainly try that. Also checking on your stress level, as cortisol can keep you hanging on to fat. (This is physical AND mental stress...

It was so long ago, I don't remember. I don't think so, but I may not be remembering well either. I wouldn't know if it was "normal" before if it did change! We were lucky and got a hit on our first try. (First month, anyway.) No. I've been charting for ages, so I know when I ovulate, and we timed sex for that. If you aren't already...

My husband, who is not a celiac, has had trouble with nosebleeds his whole life. It's not as bad as you describe, but some similarities. There is definitely a connect to dry air, and to transitioning from cold to warm. (Dry, fragile vessels suddenly getting a flood of warm blood can burst.) He suspects his is partially due to what he suspects was an accidentally...

I would (and have, as this isn't a hypothetical situation for me at all) eat a good meal before hand, and go. Order a tasty, "treat yourself" beverage. (I never order beverages, but this is the time I'll pony up for a thai iced tea, or a raspberry lemonade, or a virgin daq if it's the right place ). Bring a snack for the ride home. And enjoy the company...

ARCHIVED Finding Affordable Glasses
tarnalberry replied to sariesue's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Buy cheaper frames. (Sriously, you can get frames for $50 if you need to. No, they're not the greatest and nicest looking, but you won't actually be seeing them all that much since they are on your face! ) Reconsider if you actually need progressive lenses. Usually bifocals (which is what progressives are - bifocals that are blended) are for when... -
ARCHIVED Confused About Protein And Aminos
tarnalberry replied to kimis's topic in Sports and Fitness
Dairy can be a hard one. I'd try some others. I've liked both hemp protein powder and pumpkin seed, but have also used rice (it's cheaper). -
ARCHIVED WW II Every Night At Dinner
tarnalberry replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
While my daughter is only 21months, I think this is great advice! Whatever you choose to do, BE CONSISTENT! -
ARCHIVED Anyone Ever Experience Vertigo?
tarnalberry replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've had that with migraines. I've also had it as "benign positional vertigo" where the small crystals in the inner ear get dislodged and literally bump around. Fortunately, my chiropractor knows the maneuver for helping work them out, and that helped tremendously. -
ARCHIVED Mom Wants Me To End It Over His Celiac
tarnalberry replied to KricketKrick's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree with the over thinking. (Although it's clearly with the best of intentions!) If he's being verbally abusive, of course it's time to reconsider and/or leave. If he gets crabby and irritated, well, I guess he's human. Seriously, NONE of the women responding on this thread find themselves acting crabby/short/irritated during any part of their... -
ARCHIVED Need Celiac Doc For Pregnancy Check Ups!
tarnalberry replied to Celiac Ninja's topic in Doctors
You may find that your best bet is to find a midwife who is also a natropath. (There are some - one of mine was.) Celiac in and of itself shouldn't require any special treatment in pregnancy - stay gluten free, address any nutritional concerns (which would have to be investigated via blood test anyway. -
ARCHIVED My 6 Yr Old Girl Passes Gas Frequently
tarnalberry replied to Nannu's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't know that I would worry about it. Bell peppers (raw, especially) give me gas. But I have no reason to suspect a problem. Some foods are prone to causing gas, without any trouble. What is YOUR gut feel? -
ARCHIVED Beef/turkey Jerky Recommendations

I also like the trader joes one, if you don't make your own. -
Dont know if anyone else watches it, but the most recent version of Royal Pains had an atypical presentation of Celiac, triggered by stress. It was a little light on relevant medical factoids, but nothing glaringly wrong. Better than the House presentation a couple years ago. (Sorry if this was already mentioned and I missed it. I don't get to be on the...

ARCHIVED I Am A Terrible Mother
tarnalberry replied to kaity's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Honestly, we don't eat much that could contain gluten. My daughter, not yet quite 2, eats what we eat - last night that was lentil soup. She had eggs this morning, but wasnt terribly interested in them, and ate more fruit (cherries and apple), than anything. She also had a piece of cheese. For lunch, we will have some leftover soup, maybe a rice cake (with... -
ARCHIVED Everything Got Better Except The Migraines.....why?
tarnalberry replied to nadien's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
And migraines can be triggered by non-food things as well. Barometric pressure and poor cervical alignment are two for me. I couldn't shake mine until I had spent some time with my chiropractor.
