  1. Premise digestive systems are even more sensiteive than a full-term infant. And testing this young IS very unreliable. He IS getting gluten through your milk - plenty of studies have confirmed the passage of the portion of the gliadin molecule that causes reaction does make its way through the human mammary gland in most every lactating person. The only thing...
  2. After two weeks gluten free, my blood tests were inconclusive, would they ever have been positive? I don't know. But I know I feel better gluten free. It's a hard call, I'd probably try for the test, but stay gluten-free myself.
  3. I've never seen gluten in a wipe, but as has been mentioned, some babies are sensitive to some wipes (regardless of whether or not it's marked "sensitive" or "free"). Try different ones, or possibly make your own (or just use baby washcloths and a spray bottle of water), and see if it helps.
  4. I had this happen at work onc. I left a printed message on the fridge along the lines of " Dear whoever stole my food, since I have food allergies, I can't just go to the cafeteria to get something to eat, instead I get to feel hungry and crappy the st of the day. Thanks, and next time, keep your hands off my food."
  5. Suz, much of what I would have said, both supportive and slap-upside-the-head, has already been said more eloquently than I would have managed. So I have something slightly different. I am going to suggest that you consider studying yoga, seriously, for at least a few months. Not just the physical practice of poses (asana), but pranayama (breathing practices...
  6. The primary difference between voluntary restrictions and medical restrictions is freedom of choice. Vegans, even if they're stuck with nothing to eat at a restaurant, have made that choice with little coercion. The celiac is coerced by the health ramifications to make that choice against their desires (in some cases, anyway ). The choice makes a HUGE different...
  7. [quote name='IrishHeart' timestamp='1325437484' post=' So, there is an immunological response with any ingestion of gluten, but it may not be enough to appear in seriological testing. But there is still an AI response, which is all that I was trying to say. right? please correct me if I am wrong as I would hate to be saying the wrong thing...
  8. What full fat yogurt you can find depends on your store. My local Safeway has Cascade Fresh that you can get as a whole milk yogurt. Someplaces also carry Nancy's. You can dip those pretzels I peanut butter, btw, to add fat and protein. If he will eat eggs, the. Scrambled, "fried", omlettes (with cheese and avocado!), and hard boiled (portable snack...
  9. But that just isn't true. Studies looking for safe-levels find patients who ingest gluten at 20ppm (or some level, depending on the study) with no villainous atrophy and no elevated blood work (and no symptoms). The majority of them, actually.
  10. I like the cooking part, but I HATE the cleaning part. I find that if I figure out what sorts of things reduce how much cleaning I need to do (one pot meals, using the grill for everything), it's MUCH more likely that I will cook.
  11. We are adding lighting (strip LED accent lighting) to my yoga studio (converted from our living room) and I'm painting a mural on the walls. 30ft of mural is a LOT to paint! I had hoped to be done by now, but I'm a fairly long way off.
  12. If you've ever let a sandwich, cookie, or pizza in your house, you live in a shared facility. There are standard procedures to wash lines between runs, in the case of shared equipment, or segregate items in the case of shared facilities only. Some do react to products made in shared facilities or on shared equipment, but most don't. You have to find out for...
  13. for 10 people, even though it's not the holidays, I would roast a turkey (or two chickens), and roast a bunch of vegetables too (potatoes, carrots, onions, beets). then, maybe, saute some green beans. boom - a well rounded meal with minimal cooking. if you want to get fancy, you could serve a salad too. but what kinds of foods does your family like...
  14. DD is also allowed to eat whenever, and she doesn't have to be at the table either. But I give her gluten free stuff (there are lots of things to give babies that aren't wheat based, and healthier, but are not what we usually think of), even though she doesn't have to be gluten free. I would see if you can focus on gluten free stuff for him while you are...
  15. Saltines are a kind of crappy solution anyway. They just spike your blood sugar, which is more sensitive during pregnancy anyway. Ginger (tea, straight, capsules, candy) can help. Licorice can help, but be careful as it can raise blood pressure, even without very large doses. (For some of us with low blood pressure duringr pregnancy, this can be a useful...
  16. We've been doing holidays gluten free for years now, even though I'm the only one who needs it. It's really quite easy to find naturally gluten free things to eat! Christmas dinner this year was king salmon (grilled, seasoned with herbs), sweet potato fries with cinnamon, saluted green beans, broccoli with ginger/tamari/sesame oil/rice wine, rice, and a...
  17. Today: apple cinnamon almond meal muffins. Some flour, but mostly nuts, so it was fairly balanced carbs/proteins/ fats. Of course, the inlaws are over, and so two dozen muffins didn't last past lunch.
  18. I'm in the "don't advertise" camp. Not that you shouldn't tell people if they ask what's in them or if they are gluten free or why you are eating them, of course. But you are gluten free and you were asked to bring rolls - it's not an unreasonable assumption that you are going to bring gluten free ones. I would, also, only do this if you can bring gluten...
  19. I would have come back with "That's right. Don't make it gluten free. I don't want to eat anyway; I'll just watch you guys enjoy a family meal while I have a glass of water." Seriously, he was being a self-centered bore. He may well not have meant it, but sometimes you have to point it out to people who just aren't thinking. I'm with the others - she...
  20. Just not saying "contains wheat" isn't enough. The labeling laws allow the wheat to either be declared separately (such as those "contains X" labels) or in the ingredient list (and not a "contains" label). In addition, wheat free and gluten free are not the same. Something may say "wheat free" or have no wheat ingredients on the label anywhere, but contain...
  21. When the person mentions that they will cook something "safe" for me, I say "really, don't worry about me. it's so very hard to be careful about not sharing pans and baking utensils or using a shared cutting board or condiments; it's just so mindnumbing to pay attention to all of the minutia to avoid contamination that could make me quite sick. I'll be...
  22. Next time she goes to dinner as a guest, someone should tell her "Oh, I'm sorry. But we don't have any for you. But it's ok; you can miss a meal," then show her to her chair between two guests who will be eating.
  23. I've been on a cookie making binge, and came across a couple of interesting recipes to make, one I converted to gluten free and the other already gluten-free (and vegan). From Open Original Shared Link, Double Dark Chocolate Pomegranate Cookies Notes: I used coconut oil instead of vegetable shortening, and cooked them a little lower and longer...
  24. I would explicitly ask her "Why do you want me to get sick?" When she says "but your sister does it and doesn't get sick", you say "one, we don't know that she doesn't feel the effects of it. two, didn't you teach me not to jump off a bridge just because someone else does. I know that it makes me sick, so either you think I'm intentionally lying, or you...
  25. Also makes good crackers when mixed with almond meal!
