  1. I have your symptoms exactly. (itchy like dry skin but no rash etc. comes and goes) Mine also started a couple of months ago. (must be the water in Virginia). We are in the process of experementing with different laundry products. I actually bought some Tide a while back when we could not get Arm and Hammer. Right now we are going to try All free and clear...
  2. Funny someone should mention "Thai Kitchen" as I bought the rice noodle bowl variety the other day for the first time and really enjoyed it. I even went out and got some chopsticks so I could completely enjoy the Asian experience. Also in the same section was another brand called "Simply Asia" which is another rice noodle bowl dish. Both brands are clearly...
  3. Hi and welcome, As for the deli we usually get Boar's Head brand but you could contact the different vendors (phone or e-mail) and find out which items they produce are gluten free. I have yet to contact any vendor who could not answer this question. We replaced very few kitchen items relying on cleaning. What we did do was make the kitchen gluten...
  4. This is what I had done. Family doctor drew blood. My blood went to LabCorp. Initially I was not going to get any follow-up testing done because I felt fine. This was suggested by Dr. Fasano during his seminar last summer. The reason he said was to insure no gluten was sneaking into my diet. I did not have any anti-body testing done prior to my biopsy a year...
  5. Reading about the pros and cons of getting tested by labs reminds me of a seminar I attended last summer given by Dr. Fasano from the University of Maryland. One of the things he mentioned was the reason why gluten was discovered to be the culprit. It was for lack of a better phrase "dumb luck". According to Dr. Fasano the mortality rate for Celiac in parts...
  6. Dee, Basically we just cleaned up the pans and still use the oven. I would get a separate toaster if I were you. Cross contamination can vary with different people. I have had no cc issues. We replaced very few items in the kitchen relying on cleaning everything first and if no problem continue to use those items. I will admit the kitchen itself is gluten...
  7. I read through all your posts just to get to the above acknowledgement. What difference does it make what you call it if it (gluten) bothers you? You can test yourself until the end of time and I don't care what the result is (positive or negative) if staying on the diet is the only tlhing that gives you relief then that is what you are going to have to do...
  8. My foul gas went away with all the other symptoms when I went gluten free. I am not sure but I think when food is somewhat undigested then things like foul gas and stools are the result. All I know is that it was really "obvious" prior to going on the diet. Tom
  9. I'm sure if one searches or inquires long enough they will find just about any situation possible concerning the reaction different people have with gluten. If what you are ultimately asking is whether "anyone" has outgrown or been "cured" of Celiac Disease or gluten intolerance then I have yet to see or hear of this happening. Everyday I am sure all over...
  10. A couple of days before my one and only GI appointment I was freaking out because of the rapid weight loss and nonstop D. I called the on call doctor that weekend. I told him what my symptoms were. He "mentioned" possible Celiac. Two days later I saw the GI who ordered both scopes based on my physical condition at that time. One week later I had the Dx. Looking...
  11. A couple of months into the diet I was paying a bill. About halfway across "licking" the envelope I realized the error of my ways. I jumped up and ran to the sink and started spitting. I then wet a paper towel and started wiping it across my tongue. Long story short is nothing happened and there were no witnesses to this behavior. Soon after we got self-adhesive...
  12. I like what you said in reference to "if" other family members get tested because in reality it is not necessary to test anyone else once one person has a positive diagnosis either through testing or diet response. In my case I was the only member of my family to ever experience symptoms. I have a brother, sister and mother still living. My father is not...
  13. The prices are coming down and it is not because of Bard's. Actually Bard's and New Grist were out months before Redbridge. Redbridge is the "new kid" on the block. During a visit to the in-laws in NC over Christmas I went to a health food store and "all" three brands were present in one display. I have only tasted New Grist and Redbridge. I did not get the...
  14. Hi, When I first started this diet in May 05 I was pretty malnourished. In addition to the gluten free food I was taking a multi-vitamin and a calcium supplement (Oscal) each day. When I had a bone scan a couple of months into the diet the person doing the test acted like a salesperson for Fosomax (sp?). Anyway I resisted getting this supplement. As a...
  15. I agree with choice. If someone doesn't think it applies to Celiac then go to the "Coping With" forum and read the post on "can't stop eating gluten". Sounds like a choice to me. Tom
  16. Hi, Well going gluten free to see what happens is certainly an option. Have you ever tried the diet before? This can be tricky as gluten could slip in your diet without you knowing and mess up your results. Also if this does work you will then have to make a decision whether or not to get any further testing done. Say you try the diet and your symptoms...
  17. Well would you consider Celiac a "lifestyle" change? Tom
  18. I could not agree more. I have not had one instance in which someone wanted to see my "positive diagnosis" before they would give me a gluten free menu or disclose what was in a meal I wanted to order. Same goes with me refusing to eat or drink something that was offered outside the home. The key is to get more people to request gluten free in their lifestyle...
  19. Hi, You actually have a couple of options. One is to get gene tested. If that is positive you could opt for the other tests (blood, biopsy) or if you are familiar enough with the diet you could initially try the diet to see if your symptoms improve. A word of caution and that is to not try the diet if you want to do any testing other than the gene test...
  20. Hi, We are all different but I feel there are factors that can contribute to a faster recovery time. I was pretty ill when diagnosed in May 05. I feel I recovered extremely fast. Symptoms went away in a few days "never" to return. It took me about 10 weeks to heal and gain back enough weight to get active and start to feel normal again. That said these...
  21. I think if you try to sip a glass of wine at a baseball game then I have no doubt that a "Milwaukee's Best" can will come crashing down on you. Tom

    ARCHIVED Drew Brees

Must be a QB thing as Rich Gannon has a child with Celiac/gluten intolerance. Tom
  23. I agree with this type of thinking. If you know the gene exhists somewhere in the family tree then you can either use the diet as a preventive measure or wait to see if someone else ever develops symptoms. At the onset of symptoms you could gene test the individual at that point and/or simply start the diet and see what happens. The diet does "not" effect...
  24. Angie, Why make the effort to go on the diet and not be diligent or careful? The only way the diet can be accurate as a diagnostic tool is to do it correctly. Anything less can confuse yourself and any doctor who wishes to treat you. I know there are a lot of uneducated and inexperienced doctors out there who will take every opportunity to discredit what...
  25. I try to get all of my vitamins from the foods I eat and also keep active. I think if I treat my body right and avoid gluten at all costs then I expect to be rewarded by feeling good. So far so this has worked perfectly. Tom
