  1. Thanks Angie. I will definitely check it out. So far "Redbridge" seems to go with just about everything past breakfast. Tom
  2. I happen to like "Glutino" pasta and their bread. I have tried some of the other brands but most seemed too "mushy" for me. I ate "Orgran" previously but cannot always get it here. The Glutino is made with rice and corn so I think this makes it hold it's shape during cooking. Just a light rinse with warm water and it is good to go. Tom
  3. I use French's also with no problems. Tom
  4. I hear what all of you are saying. When I was diagnosed back in May 2005 I was about 30-35 pounds underweight. The first thing I did after my positive diagnosis for celiac was to see a RD that same week. Together we spent the hour planning a sample diet for me to gain back the weight. You need to understand that while you are healing you will need to eat...
  5. I hear what you are saying. To tell you the truth though even with my "official" diagnosis most people don't take my condition seriously. As far as doctors are concerned most don't understand Celiac to begin with so they could not help you if they tried. I make sure that I have a medical alert tag (bracelet or necklace) with me at all times when away from...
  6. I had positive biopsy but would rather have found this site a couple of years prior to that and found out through positive diet response. There are two main reasons for this: The first is that it would have been cheaper and the second is that I would not have been so ill! There is something to be said for people who figure out things on their own. An "official...
  7. Found Redbridge in two locations today. One of these Kroger had it for $6.99 a six (great price!). The other was a speciality beverage store about 2 miles away and the price there was $8.99 a six! Needless to say if this continues I don't think the speciality store will be selling very much. I don't know how some of these retailers come up with their price...
  8. Finally got hold of the Redbridge last weekend during a visit to Cary,NC. As a matter of fact the Whole Foods had a display with all three beers (Bard's Tale, New Grist and Redbridge) together. There were also three different prices. Bard's was $11.49 a six , New Grist was $9.99 a six and Redbridge was $7.99 a six. That said I bought the Redbridge only as...
  9. The closest thing I have found to traditional sandwich bread is Glutino "Corn Bread". It is not made from corn meal but rather corn starch and is light in weight and texture. I think it resembles sour dough when toasted. It is the only sandwich bread I have bought recently. It is frozen because it comes from Canada. Until something else comes out better I...
  10. This will mainly depend on "our" input. I have talked to reps of my local distrubutor about putting it in the supermarkets. I don't see that being a big problem. Also I talk to the manager/owner of resturants I frequent about the availability of products like this. They talk to the route sales person of the distributor who in turn make the necessary arrangements...
  11. AB issued a press release at 8 AM this morning on "Red Bridge". Go to their website or look up ticker symbol (bud) on the stock market and you will probably be able to read. Looks like it has offically gone "National". Tom
  12. Know what you mean but it has only been out a couple of days. Tom
  13. The person I talked to at AB told me that "Red Bridge" is actually brewed in New Hampshire only at this time. That is not far from Canada. Tom
  14. Just got off the phoned with AB in Missouri. Person told me the national release date for "Red Bridge" was yesterday. Like Angie said our next step is to contact the various retail outlets ( beverage stores, supermarkets, resturants, and taverns etc.) who will in turn contact the AB distributor for that area. Once the demand is noticed then we will see it...
  15. Hi, I think this is the toughest of all situations a family is faced in dealing with Celiac. You as a parent are most responsible for the diet choices of your son. How you go about it will be depend on not only yourself but also the other members of your family. The more the whole family can eat the same things (naturally gluten free food like meats, fruits...
  16. We eat Glutino for almost all our gluten-free alternatives. (this includes bread, pasta and crackers). We prefer the "corn bread" which is not corn at all but white sandwich bread made with corn starch not corn meal. When toasted it has the taste and texture of sourdough. It is also lighter than the other breads we tried. The pasta tastes fine also (we prefer...
  17. Rene, Are you pretty sure when you went gluten free you were able to successfully eliminate all exposure to gluten? If you had not done this before it might slip in someplace where you would not expect it. I think this may be especially true with women and cosmetics (like I would know). That said you are in a position where a lot of people find themselves...
  18. Lisa, It's weird how we all react differently. Mine was chronic 'before" diagnosis and completely disappeared the second day on the diet never to return. That was over 18 months ago. I think if I were you I would try to eliminate different things from your diet (like dairy) and keep a log of what you eat. I did this for the first couple of weeks or so when...
  19. Just called AB again to follow up on inquiry about production and availability of "Red Bridge". The person had no knowledge of any problems with the product and will get back with me on the availabity of the product in the US. Tom
  20. Actually there are at least 3 main beers (Bard's Tale, New Grist, and Red Bridge) and all are in various stages of production and shipping. I have tried New Grist and it is pretty good. Others like Bard's Tale and some have even tried Red Bridge (the newest). I have heard others say it is not like the "traditional" beers they were used to. If people are going...
  21. If you have a child with Celiac and you have symptoms I see no reason why you would want a diagnosis before starting the gluten-free diet. I would save the money in case you don't respond to the diet (I think you will though) to test for whatever it might be. If you had been in a situation where no one close to you ever had symptoms or the actual illness...
  22. To everyone out there debating on whether or not to try the diet please pay attention to what Nancy is saying. You don't need permission to try this. If feeling better is the "most" important thing you seek then at least give the diet a chance. If it works then you can always go back to gluten and seek an official diagnosis or if you are like her and are...
  23. I'm sure awareness is increasing in places like supermarkets, resturants and places like Costco. What I really want to know is how many more instances of Celiac are being correctly diagnosed in the medical community. When more GP's and GI's start going on the record with numbers I will really be encouraged. I wonder how many of a typical GP's patient database...
  24. I think they are small so we can afford them! Which brands do you typically buy? Tom
  25. I heard the story on MSNBC during the "Imus in the Morning" broadcast this morning. That was exactly what I thought about. I'm never surprised when I think of something and see it on this board later! Shows how in tune we are with what goes on in the world. Tom
