  1. Jodi, it isn't fat that makes you fat, but too many carbs and sugars. In fact, eating enough healthy fats will help you lose weight! Try using non-hydrogenated, cold pressed coconut oil. It is a healthy saturated fat, that is known to cause weight to regulate to normal (fat people lose, skinny people gain weight). The same goes for cod liver oil.
  2. Jodi, are you sure you aren't intolerant to dairy and soy? If your villi are healed, it is a mystery to me why you aren't absorbing nutrients. I hope you get some answers soon. The reason I mentioned cod liver oil is, that it is easily absorbed and might work better than the vitamin D supplements. It just occurred to me that vitamin C is a fat soluble...

    ARCHIVED Gi Rant

I can see your point. And it is true, of course that GI is not going to be the one looking at the slides and interpreting what he sees. He may well tell you there was no problem, though, even if there is damage. So, you need to demand a copy of the biopsy results, which you should then copy before giving it to your regular doctor (so you have a copy for...
  4. Sparkles, my husband is happy with me being gluten-free (still, he gets mad at me for spending more money on food than he likes). In fact, his control when it comes to food is more that he stops me from even eating safe things, because he questions my choices (of course, he doesn't like it when he isn't in control). And he wants to limit my diet even more...

    ARCHIVED Gi Rant

Good grief, what an ignorant, arrogant, idiot GI doctor! Are you sure you need an 'official' diagnosis? Your symptoms are awfully obvious, and your grandmother has celiac disease (and of course, it is hereditary). You really know it is celiac disease already. Why don't you save yourself the aggravation and just go back to being gluten-free? The idea, wanting...
  6. Did you just say you got sick when you added gluten and wheat back into your diet? If you are intolerant to gluten and allergic to wheat, if I read the above right, you've got your answer. And my answer is, yes, PLEASE take it all out again! You have an ignorant doctor. If you are low in potassium, eat lots of watermelon. They are much higher in potassium...
  7. Yikes, scurvy! I imagine you'll need to get vitamin C intravenously as well, until your intestines are healed enough to absorb nutrients again. Try taking cod liver oil (I take the Carlson brand, which doesn't taste bad) for vitamin D and A and omega 3 fatty acids. My vitamin D was very low 1 1/2 years ago, too, and I had to cut back on it, because my...
  8. Girls, you are so sweet, you make me cry. When I told Janet about Ethan and Emily needing gluten-free food as well, she asked me if I had already let the caterer know! She has decided (probably because it is my 'fault' that those kids have celiac disease, since they inherited it from me) that it is MY responsibility to look after their safe meals. Of...
  9. I am not sure why all those lines with text appear, it's definitely a glitch. I get them as well, though. You just scroll down to where the 'normal' stuff is, and do what you usually do. I've done it several times already, and it works just fine.
  10. I just talked to my oldest daughter, and the ringbearer appears to have celiac disease as well, meaning he can't eat the food, either! And neither can his older sister (who is also gluten-free) or his twin sister (nightshade intolerance) who is the flower girl. And the suggestion for the pizza came from my second oldest, who is diagnosed wheat intolerant...
  11. That is fabulous! I hope your daughter has a great time, and that those two will become good friends.
  12. You can eat a perfectly normal dinner, your family won't even notice the difference. You can eat all meats, fish, eggs etc., all vegetables are naturally gluten-free, and so are fruits. You can thicken gravy with cornstarch or light buckwheat flour, and nobody will tell the difference. You can cook rice pasta (Tinkyada or Glutino, and there are other good...
  13. Thank you everybody for your support. Yes, of course I will go, bringing my own food (which is nothing new, of course), not letting on that I got hurt. I will have fun watching my gorgeous grandchildren enjoy being special in being the ringbearer and flower girl for their Auntie and new uncle, who they already love. He is fabulous with kids, and they adore...
  14. Grey, I am really sorry that your GI is an ignorant jerk. Forget about him, and ask your regular doctor to test for the other deficiencies. Because they DO matter. If your ferritin is so low, you should probably get iron shots, too, to give you a boost. Make sure you get your vitamin D tested as well, as without it you won't be able to use calcium and magnesium...
  15. ENF, I hope that you don't feel like we are attacking you. Far from it. I am glad you posted the link to the information, as it's good to be up to date on these types of development. Our comments are not personal, but rather are addressing the article. You said: In fact, there have been people who had negative bloodwork, and don't have the two recognized...
  16. That looks interesting. But if they'd ask me to be one of their guinea pigs, I'd refuse. Who knows what long-term health consequences this vaccine would cause. I think I'd prefer the diet. Besides, this vaccine will only address the two 'official' celiac disease genes. Every serious scientist who deals with celiac disease knows, that there likely are other...
  17. Actually, this is the way it always is, wedding or not. My husband is a control freak, who really isn't normal, and it is getting worse. And the daughter getting married is just like her dad, and is trying to control me and her little sister as well. It is an impossible situation.
  18. Carla, the wedding, and therefore the rehearsal, will be a 1 1/2 hour drive from home. Otherwise your suggestion of going home right after the rehearsal to eat would be excellent advice. Unfortunately, that won't be possible. I guess I am just too afraid of making people mad. It seems that lately, too many family members are angry with me, especially...
  19. Laura, you were not saying that you would do a modified SBD diet, and I was just concerned that you would be doing more damage to yourself. Sorry if I offended you.
  20. I am very tempted to not attend the rehearsal. But all of my kids and their families will be there, two of whom will be coming a long way, and I haven't seen them for a while. My oldest daughter's four-year-old (almost five) twins will be the ring bearer and flower girl, and the three oldest kids and one son-in-law will be singing and playing the guitars...
  21. Don't beat up on yourself, you are still learning and old habits are hard to break. Yes, I think it has happened to all of us at the beginning, me being no exception. You might get diarrhea, stomach pain, whatever symptoms you used to have. Try taking immodium (the pills, the liquid isn't gluten-free) to ward off the diarrhea, eat non-irritating foods...
  22. Jessica, what I read in that statement you quoted is not that low progesterone causes celiac disease, but rather, that people with celiac disease, as a result of celiac disease messing with your body's functions, can cause low progesterone. And yes, 32 is pretty borderline normal, and supplementing might be an excellent idea for you.
  23. I get breathing problems when I eat rice or eggs, plus, yes, it is allergy season. So, it could be another food intolerance, you could be getting glutened, or you may just be reacting to something in the air. Did something change for you lately, like getting a new pet, change in home environment, new car, new rugs, new furniture, or have you painted...
  24. I would like to say that she is just stressed out. But actually, that is the way she always treats me, and is intentional. This is a young woman who NEVER gets stressed out, that is just not part of her nature. She told me to stay out of her plans, since it's her wedding, and it will be done her way. Which suits me fine, because I can't handle stress at...
  25. I guess I just need to vent! Our second youngest daughter is getting married in ten days (June 9th). She just called to ask me to let my husband know what she ordered for the rehearsal dinner on the 8th, and how much he will have to pay for it. She ordered pizza and pies. I asked her if she ordered anything I can eat, and she told me that I am on my...
