  1. My joints swell from gluten, dairy, rice, eggs primarily. Unfortunately, I haven't found anything that helps, other than waiting it out and avoiding the offending foods.
  2. All your blood test results are borderline, and you have the genes for both celiac disease and gluten intolerance. If you combine that with celiac disease symptoms, I'd say it would make sense to try the gluten-free diet. If you respond favourably to it, I'd assume you do have celiac disease.
  3. Coconut oil is the healthiest saturated fat out there. You can't use it for salads, because it is not liquid. But you can use it for all your cooking and baking, and even eat it straight as a supplement. Just make sure you get the non-hydrogenated kind (cold pressed), as all hydrogenated fats are poison for your body. You might have to buy it in the health...
  4. I asked my future son-in-law if dairy cows are fed wheat. He said that no, generally they don't eat wheat. But they are fed a LOT of soy! Meaning that there is soy in all dairy. I would never have thought of that. So, for anyone who is intolerant or allergic to soy, you shouldn't have dairy either.
  5. Pedro, congratulations on finally knowing. Obviously you have intestinal damage, because you have malabsorption. I would definitely test the children as well. It is much better to test BEFORE there are obvious symptoms. A lot of people find that when they eliminate gluten, symptoms that weren't recognized as such go away.
  6. Oranges are high in salicylic acid, which I am highly intolerant to. After stopping all food high in salicylates for several months, I gave in to a craving and ate ONE orange, and the next day I felt like I was on fire. So, his intolerance may not be to oranges per se, but something in the oranges. He probably shouldn't be eating grapefruits or lemons...
  7. Thanks, Patti. I play them, too, so it is a practical collection as well. And by next week I'll have another one, as today is my 28th wedding anniversary, and my husband is giving me another recorder! Those in the picture are only my wooden recorders, I have plastic ones as well (which obviously aren't nearly worth as much). I'll let you know what...
  8. It's just as well I am intolerant to rice, too, so at least I won't die from arsenic poisoning. But yes, it sure is scary.
  9. Most doctors don't have a clue about non-food gluten issues (and most of them don't have a clue about nutrition and food, either). So, it doesn't surprise me that he didn't tell you about it.
  10. I had those symptoms before figuring out I am gluten intolerant. But it took a while before they went away. You might need to eliminate all dairy as well, before you'll feel better, and probably soy as well. Also, it is possible that right now you can't digest many things yet. Eat foods that are easy to digest. Meaning, nothing raw or fried. Chicken...
  11. I am also intolerant to all grains. I get almost the same reaction from rice as I do from gluten grains. Grains are lectin foods, and not only am I intolerant to grains, but all other lectins as well (see the link in my signature for more info). Budew, you may be intolerant to all lectins, or at least more than just grains. For instance eggs give me an...
  12. For a while I thought I needed shampoo to control dandruff, too. I was severely allergic to the stuff, and it made my hair fall out in bushels. The real reason for my 'dandruff' was the gluten. I had psoriasis on my scalp, which will produce the same flakes coming off as dandruff. Once I stopped eating gluten, and starting using gluten-free shampoo, conditioner...
  13. Karen, you've got one of the few good doctors, who actually understands celiac disease. I am glad he won't insist on a gluten challenge to do a biopsy, because that is a dangerous thing to do. I wished my husband would be as supportive as yours. You will do well with your doctor and your husband on board.
  14. Yep, I have thought about that, too. If human mothers will have the gliadin in their milk when eating gluten grains, it makes sense that it would also be in the milk of cows that are being fed wheat. On the other hand, wheat is usually fed to cattle to fatten them up for slaughter. Dairy cows don't need to be fattened, since obviously, the intent to slaughter...
  15. We had a thread going about Imodium a while ago, stating that the pills are fine, but the liquid is not gluten-free.
  16. A lot of people with celiac disease don't really get much better until they eliminate dairy as well. Dairy is well known for causing constipation. So, it might be an excellent idea to cut dairy out of your son's diet as well as the gluten. It might make a huge difference. I will be better if you don't substitute soy for the dairy, as it also could cause...
  17. I use Dove shampoo, conditioner and styling gel, and the horrible itchiness I used to get on my scalp is usually gone now (and I don't think I have DH).
  18. Unfortunately, it is very likely that your blood work will be negative, since you really haven't been eating enough gluten for it to be positive. For an intestinal biopsy to be positive, you'd have to eat a lot of gluten every day for at least three to six months before you would get a positive. On the other hand, if your rash (beside the rash, really) is...
  19. If you use just cocoa powder, it shouldn't have gluten or soy in it. Read the ingredients. My no-name cocoa has just cocoa powder and salt in it (and it says, may contain traces of milk, don't know why). On the other hand, if you really mean instant hot chocolate (or chocolate milk), that is another matter entirely. If you want to be sure, call the...
  20. Aha, lectins! I thought so. Have you taken out tomatoes and peppers, too? I am very glad you are feeling better.
  21. I used to get ear infections a few years ago, once went nearly deaf for two weeks. Haven't had that problem since going gluten-free.
  22. Tim, nobody said that you ATE gluten, but that you WILL get some gluten if you don't change your personal care items to gluten-free ones, and will use your old toaster. It is true that it isn't possible to avoid all gluten all of the time. But it IS possible to avoid it most of the time, if you are careful.
  23. Every lab has different reference ranges for what is considered normal. Could you please post these, so we can see what your values mean? Because otherwise we really can't tell you anything from looking at those results.
  24. Sarahelizabeth, all your symptoms sound like celiac disease to me. I am overweight, too, and that's why my doctor wouldn't test me, even though I had all the other symptoms two years ago. I used to also get terribly itchy all over, including my palms and soles of my feet. It was so bad that I'd scratch myself bloody in my sleep, if I could sleep, that...
  25. Ashley, I don't have an iPod. But my guess is, that your iPod came with an installation C D to download, so your computer will recognize it. And then, yes, I suppose you probably should download iTunes as well.
