  1. You don't say if you have hypercoagulation, or if it is the opposite (as in your blood not clotting well). If it is the former, Rachel may be right, on the other hand, if your blood won't clot easily (which also would result in easy bruising), you may just be deficient in vitamin K. Which would be caused by malabsorption due to celiac disease.
  2. Missy, gluten can really mess with your brain. It can cause severe depression, schizophrenia, bipolar, ADD, autism and other interesting things. I would not bother with the antidepressants at this point, but just go 100% gluten-free, as that is all you may need. Cod liver oil is a great idea, as it will provide you with Omega 3 fatty acids (very important...
  3. Hi Molly, good to hear from you! I am glad you are enjoying school, even though it is a lot of hard work. I hope that your health will improve, too.
  4. I guess you mean misdiagnosed. It took me a couple of minutes to figure it out (brainfog has got me, I think). She never said that the rash is her only symptom, but rather that she has always had it. Elbar, what tests were run? Did you have the full celiac disease panel done, as well as the biopsy? How many biopsies were taken? If not all the tests...
  5. Chrissy, you have been on this board long enough to realize that those negative biopsies might not mean a thing. It is too easy to miss the damaged spots, unless you take 100 biopsies! And even then you could miss the damage. So, they might have had villi damage, and it was missed. I guess you'll never know. And I agree with gfp on this one. Since your...
  6. No Marjorie, you're not too careful. In fact, you are not careful enough. You shouldn't even be in the room when others are baking. And flour dust may be in the air for up to 24 hours, and could gluten you several hours later when returning to the kitchen.
  7. Kari Anne, the big problem with doing the diet first and then doing blood work is, that during your diet trial you might heal enough to get a false negative on the blood test! You need to absolutely get the blood drawn FIRST, before you try the diet. Also, there is no such 'illness' as IBS. That's what doctors will call a collection of symptoms when they...
  8. Good thing I don't live in California. But if I would live there, I'd either homeschool or move somewhere else. I have heard rumors that this was coming, here in Canada, too. It's just a matter of time before the police will show up at the doors of people who won't vaccinate, and forcibly take the kids to be vaccinated. At which point we might as well...
  9. Kimberley, I am sorry you are still feeling so bad. You may want to follow my link on lectins, and try if it will help to eliminate all of them, at least for a while. It tells you what to do to then figure out which ones are the problem (it may be all of them, they are for me). Are you sure you have eliminated all sources of gluten, in personal care products...
  10. I disagree strongly with those who think that personal care products are not an issue. Maybe the exposure isn't enough to damage your villi to the point of showing antibodies in your blood. But at the same time, it may be doing damage elsewhere. We can't help but be glutened at times, it is completely unavoidable in this gluten filled world. Why not try...
  11. Well, that just shows how ignorant about celiac disease most people in the health field are. If you wash your hands with soap that has wheat germ oil in it, and then eat with your fingers.......glutened. If you wash your hair with shampoo that has gluten, and you get some into your mouth during washing, or touch your hair frequently, same thing. If you use...
  12. In addition to the information already given, I want to say that coconut oil is one of the heat stable fats. So, if you do any frying (which is terrible for olive oil, for instance), coconut oil is the best oil to use. Also, rather than just eating it straight, use it for all of your cooking and baking, which is a more pleasant way of getting it. Coconut...
  13. The 'diagnosis' toddler diarrhea is every bit as dubious as IBS. Those are symptoms of something else, and should never be a diagnosis in themselves. I completely agree that you need to start the gluten-free diet immediately, as well as dairy free. Some parents here have seen miraculous results within days after starting the gluten-free diet, despite negative...
  14. I agree with Pauliina, that lots of rest and a good probiotic are a good idea. I hope that doing the gluten challenge hasn't caused you permanent damage, as that is always a possibility (which is why I'd never do that, I already have enough permanent damage!). But yes, it is unfortunately possible that the gluten challenge could have triggered a thyroid...
  15. I agree about the carbs and sugar, but completely disagree about the fats. Saturated fats (non hydrogenated of course) are essential for every cell of our bodies. I encourage everybody to eat more fats, since most people have fallen victim to the myth that saturated fat is bad for you. Try eating something high in protein before you go to bed, never anything...
  16. Whoever told you that being on the gluten-free diet for two months prior to your biopsy would not matter is an idiot. Two months are enough to heal your villi sufficiently to cause a false negative result. Don't worry about it, your positive bloodwork and your good results on the diet should be enough evidence to be diagnosed with celiac disease by most...
  17. Kimberley, I have been unable to lose weight for a long time, due to adrenal and thyroid problems. This is my advice: Don't worry about the stretch marks, wear those cute tankinis or a really snazzy one piece bathing suit this summer, and nobody will know. Stretch marks aren't the end of the world. And really, they will fade. Since you can't make them just...
  18. Would it be possible for you to get tested with Open Original Shared Link, could you afford that? Why can't you get the blood tests done now? Don't you have a health plan in college? I don't know how it works in the US, but my kids had full health coverage through their college/university (above the universal coverage here, which won't pay for a lot of...
  19. Okay, lets look at it this way. Your kids have a problem NOW, not whenever their tests might (and that's a big might) come out positive. Are you really going to wait until then? What if it never happens, will you just accept that one son has all those digestive problems (which have likely lead to malnutrition already), and the other one will have stunted...
  20. Unfermented soy is extremely unhealthy. Rice milk (not rice dream, it has barley) or almond milk would be better choices. Here is a good link to find out more about soy. Open Original Shared Link
  21. Yikes, it sounds like your WHOLE family has celiac disease, including all of the adopted children! I suggest having them all tested. But as I said before, if the test results are negative, just make your house gluten-free. ADHD and depression are both common symptoms of celiac disease, as are enamel problems. Failure to thrive should alert any doctor to test...
  22. Hi Adina, and welcome to these boards. Here is a link to Nini's site, who has compiled a 'Newbie survival kit', which is invaluable. You'll find it by scrolling to the bottom of the page. Open Original Shared Link You'll get the hang of it soon and it will get easier.
  23. Luckygfme, which country do you live in? I am in Canada, and here they don't have Armour thyroid at all, my doctor had never heard of it. In the USA you can buy desiccated thyroid in the health food stores, but here in Canada, a doctor has to prescribe it. It was very hard to convince my doctor, who didn't have a clue, to allow me to have it. I believe...
  24. Hi, and welcome to these boards. It is a steep learning curve, but you'll get the hang of it soon. Here is a link to get you started. Nini has put together a 'Newbie survival kit' which she put onto her website for download. Open Original Shared Link You scroll down to the bottom to find the newbie survival kit. It will be invaluable to you. I advise...
  25. Hi, and welcome to these boards. The problem your daughter has with her teeth is a symptom of celiac disease. I suggest you have her levels of essential nutrients checked, she is probably very low in some of them. The ones most likely to be a problem are ferritin (iron), vitamin D, vitamins B6 and B12, calcium and magnesium, potassium and vitamin K. The...
