  1. Maybe you don't need as much sleep anymore? Try going to bed later than 10, like 11. It might do the trick. Also, try drinking some calming tea, like chamomile, don't watch tv just before bed, or exercise.
  2. Laura, while a low-carb diet can be a good idea for losing weight for some people (depending on their metabolic type), the South Beach Diet is NOT a good way to go. Here is a link that explains why. Open Original Shared Link The Paleo diet might be a better option. Why don't you search 'Paleo Diet' here, and join the group that is doing it?
  3. I get diarrhea from gluten, rice, eggs and potatoes.
  4. I had jerk doctors like that in the ER in my local hospital as well. Doesn't it make you soooooooo mad to be treated like a joke? It makes me angry on your behalf that you have been treated like that. Yes, I get symptoms like that as well. And narcotics make my migraines worse. You should go and be tested for nutritional deficiencies anyway, ordered...
  5. Kassandra, it sounds like you are intolerant to lectins, like me. In which case you probably shouldn't eat rice, either. The lectin groups are: All grains (including rice and corn), all dairy, eggs, legumes (including soy and peanuts) and nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant). Most people would not be intolerant to ALL of those lectins...
  6. Sandy, lots of things can cause fatigue. Lack of magnesium is one of them. You should never take calcium without magnesium. Low vitamin D is another thing that could cause fatigue (besides many other problems). You are right, if your vitamin D is good, you shouldn't supplement with too much. That is why you should never take high doses of vitamin D without...
  7. Happy Birthday, Rachel!
  8. It could be a symptom of another food intolerance as well. I get the same thing when I eat gluten-free products, like cookies. But if I just eat (or get contaminated) with regular gluteny things, it doesn't happen. I am not sure yet what exactly is causing the burning and peeling. It could be tapioca, soy, rice..... the list is long. I don't really think...
  9. I broke a bone in my hand when I fell off the bike at 14, had a scull fracture when hit by a car at 15, and broke my right ankle when stepping onto the side of a driveway five years ago (age 49). None of them were related to osteoporosis, as I had my bone density checked after figuring out I am gluten intolerant, and it is perfect. But all of them healed...
  10. Well, the girls that forgot (or didn't care, as is the case for the youngest) are 27 and 15. The oldest is the mother of five little kids seven and under, and was probably too busy. But my husband barbecued (the second-youngest and her fiance were the only ones who could make it, the youngest was on a school trip). He bought Hamburger patties that had...
  11. Thanks, girls, you always seem to know how to make me feel better. And happy birthday to you, Robin!
  12. Thanks everybody! I couldn't reply last night, because my server went down and I couldn't be on the Internet. I wished I could report that I had a great day yesterday, but as usual, I didn't. My family doesn't think birthdays are important (they got that from their dad), and my kids feel I am being a baby if I hope for somebody doing something special...
  13. Happy late Birthday, Nikki! Sorry I somehow overlooked this thread yesterday. I hope you had a great day.
  14. Jay, the villi will become inflamed before they will start to flatten. Maybe you have just caught it before that would have happened. That is a good thing, as some damage may be irreversible once your villi are completely flattened, plus you could become very malnourished then, due to not being able to absorb nutrients. You say 'my doctor might just put...
  15. Benny, the problem with biopsies is, that unless at least five to ten biopsies are taken, false negative results are very likely, because damage to your villi may be patchy and easily missed. A negative biopsy can never rule out celiac disease, it can only confirm it if it is positive. You've have two positive blood tests, and you have symptoms. I would...
  16. You may have adrenal fatigue. Celiac disease all by itself can cause that, because it puts so much stress on the body. But working three jobs at a time on top of being diabetic and having celiac disease is really too much for anybody, and will wear out your adrenal glands. Because you'd have been running on adrenaline all those years, which is only meant...
  17. Hi Sandy, and welcome to this board. I did what you did and diagnosed myself eventually, at the age of 52. And there is NO way I'd go back to eating gluten for months, just for tests, either. I possibly wouldn't survive that. Besides the fact that I'd have to go back to taking codeine 24 hours a day for fibromyalgia pain! I am glad you figured it out,...
  18. My reactions to gluten are still pretty bad, but they are not nearly as bad as before I went gluten-free. So, it can go both ways.
  19. My name is Latin for she-bear, so I chose (or I should say, Fiddle Faddle suggested) the star formation Ursa Major when I changed my login name for safety reasons (which is why I won't mention my real name, even though even people who don't know it should be able to guess). So, please don't mention it, since then this post will pop up in Google when putting...
  20. Chris, the blood tests are not very reliable. There are many people who have negative bloodwork, but a positive biopsy. IBS is a junk diagnosis. Your bowels are irritated, obviously something is causing that. To call a symptom a disease is ridiculous. Let's look for the cause! All your symptoms could be caused by celiac disease/gluten intolerance. Your...
  21. That sounds like you've overexerted yourself. I have adrenal fatigue as well as hypothyroidism. And that is exactly how I feel if I overdo it, and don't get enough rest. You may need to cut down on your exercise for now, and get more rest.
  22. Grey, I wish you all the best for tomorrow. I was totally unable to take any vitamin or mineral supplements for six months after going gluten-free, they all gave me terrible stomach cramps. You may need to get iron and B12 injections, until your intestines are healed enough to absorb nutrients. You can try a liquid vitamin supplement. Maybe you'd be okay...
  23. Grey, what are you waiting for? The doctors won't do anything else after you get the results, whether the tests are positive or not. If it's negative they'll tell you it's all in your head and to eat whatever you want, and if it's positive they'll tell you to go gluten-free. Usually that's all you get, no diet advice at all, since most doctors are woefully...
  24. As riceguy and Pauliina already said, any kind of flour mix would work just fine. Just experiment to figure out what you like best. I don't like dark buckwheat flour because it is sort of bitter and has little pieces of stuff that will get stuck in your teeth, so I only use light buckwheat flour (besides, I have a reaction of some sort to the dark).
  25. What is your understanding of what a German pancake is? Unless I know exactly what you mean, I won't be able to give advice.
