  1. Yes, it is perfectly fine to post the book titles here. It might help others. I am so glad your husband is so much better. He sounds just like me, except that I had unexplained weight gain, not loss. My adrenals are pretty much burned out, too, and my thyroid is doing very poorly, all from being sick for fifty years because of gluten and other undiagnosed...
  2. Even eliminating gluten for two weeks can result in a false negative blood test, never mind five months! Of course it would be negative after that much time. Both your doctor and ped GI are extremely uninformed when it comes to celiac disease. And no, in order to get a positive test you need to be back on gluten for at least three to six months (meaning...
  3. You can simply not feed the poor little guy gluten for another six weeks! Seeing that he already has chronic diarrhea and vomiting, that could kill him. Seriously, I am NOT exaggerating. You also might do permanent damage, besides the fact that he would likely be quite malnourished by then. Please put him back on the gluten-free diet immediately, so he...
  4. That sounds cool. I really want there to be serious competition that will put those money grabbing oil barons out of business! And it would be even better if we wouldn't need foreign oil from Arabic countries any more as well.
  5. I don't know how these grains grow, and when supposedly the gluten forms. But I think it sounds fishy, and wouldn't eat those.
  6. Hives are an allergic reaction to something. I get hives when I eat grains with fruit (everywhere, but I shouldn't eat those anyway). Once I got terrible hives from using a lotion that contained oat bran and apple pectin. I had rubbed it all over my arms, and within seconds they felt like they were on fire, and the hives started. Within 15 minutes my arms...
  7. Well, it is a grain. There are NO ingredients, just as there are no ingredients to any other grain. That is why the only way for me to know if I react to it, is to actually try it. Because I have a crazy body that doesn't like a lot of stuff that is fabulous for other people.
  8. I read about it, and it sounds absolutely incredible. I am not sure if it is high in salicylates, or if it is a lectin food. I wished I knew, because I want to try it. In fact, I think I will try it, making sure I don't eat anything I know would give me symptoms. That way I would be able to tell if I react to it.
  9. How about some Lara bars? I tried those and they are nice (I shouldn't really eat them, as they are high in salicylates, but I needed something). Also, does he like things like carrot and celery sticks? Those keep for quite a while in Ziplock bags.
  10. The Metamucil may not agree with you because it is sweetened with Aspartame (they don't list it on the package, but my pharmacist called to ask, and he was angry when he found out!). Why don't you just try plain old psyllium husks? But really, you should get all the fiber you need from fruits and vegetables. You don't need to replace the fiber you used...
  11. Annie, have you considered that your son may be dairy intolerant, too? Dairy is known to cause constipation. Soy is another possible culprit. Try cutting out all dairy and soy to see if it helps (and give it a month before you decide it isn't helping). I hope you get it figured out soon!
  12. Have you been checked for deficiencies other than iron? There are several very common ones with celiac disease, which could also be causing the exhaustion. Vitamin D, calcium and magnesium, vitamins B6 and B12, as well as vitamin K and potassium should be checked. When did your ferritin get checked last? With me, dairy, rice, eggs and soy especially (plus...
  13. Grey, it is only 11 days until your biopsy! And you should go gluten-free immediately after the biopsies are taken, before you get the results. This gastro doesn't seem to be the best, if he claims that celiac disease is an allergy. Make sure he takes at least five biopsies, because otherwise the chances of a false negative, even if it is celiac disease...
  14. Jerry, those are beautiful! You definitely have a gift there, and I am sure you could sell your photography. And of course those are just some of your favourites. Do you realize that for every one of those beautiful pictures in National Geographic the photographer took about 1000 pictures? That's right, one thousand pictures to get that one perfect one...
  15. Jerry, I'm glad it's going so well. Running is supposed to be good for depression anyway. I guess you are making your own antidepressants, which is helping you get off the chemical ones.
  16. Your intestines will show inflammation before your villi will start to atrophy. Your results do NOT mean you don't have celiac disease or at least a gluten intolerance. SOMETHING is causing all that inflammation. My guesses are: gluten, dairy, soy (main suspects). Eliminate those for starters to see if you won't start feeling better.
  17. Jerry, I will be 54 next week, and I am definitely NOT old, so neither are you. But I think my husband is old (even though he is three years younger than me), because he wears socks with sandals and overshoes with his pants tucked in in the winter (I pretend I don't know him when he does that ). I am seriously embarrassed to be seen with him in those situations...
  18. Lisa, I am so sorry this happened. I know how hopeful you were before you went on that trip. Is it possible for you to switch doctors? That one is obviously an ignorant jerk. Can you afford to see a naturopathic doctor? That might be an option for you. Have you ever been tested for Lyme disease? I know that here in Canada doctors are even more ignorant...
  19. I was unable to eat anything raw for about six months, and still (1 1/2 years later) can't handle raw food very well. I imagine it is from permanent damage because of being undiagnosed for over 50 years. I had to cook all vegetables and fruit before eating them (and I mean WELL cooked) and salad was out completely. Or else I would get terrible stomach...
  20. Kate, that is TERRIBLE advice, and I hope nobody will follow it. It looks like you are one of those people who will never know how good you could feel if you were 100% gluten-free, because obviously, you are not. Of course, it is your decision to bake both kinds of bread in your breadmaker, it is your body you are messing with. But please, don't tell...
  21. It may not be wise to try weaning yourself off two addictive meds at the same time. I think the Prozac should go first, and the sleep aid when you have beat the Prozac addiction. Because the Ativan will help you sleep when you are withdrawing from the Prozac. Take it very slow, or you will have awful withdrawal symptoms. Buy a pill cutter if you don't...
  22. Natalie, it is very unlikely that your daughter's allergy tests for gluten and casein will show anything (even though it is possible). Intolerances will not show up on allergy testing. In people who have a gluten intolerance/sensitivity without intestinal damage will get damage elsewhere, like neurological damage, and mental health issues because the gluten...
  23. Kimberly, you sound like you are intolerant to lectins (like me). Those include all grains (including corn and rice), eggs, all dairy, all legumes (including peanuts and soy) and nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, pepper, eggplant). Check out this website to find out more: Open Original Shared Link I try once in a while to have one or the other of those...
  24. Paula, I am sorry you've lost your grandma. I hope that Tuesday will go okay for you, and not be too upsetting.
  25. You're right, that doesn't look good at all! I suggest you make an appointment with an eye doctor tomorrow, and tell them it's an emergency, if they won't give you an appointment by the latest Wednesday. You don't fool with your eyesight. I hope it's nothing serious.
