  1. Don't be sorry for letting off steam here, where else can you do that and be understood? You absolutely need thyroid medication, no wonder you are sick! Find a new doctor who actually has a clue about thyroid. Check this website for more information: Open Original Shared Link And why would you like the idea of gaining weight and losing your hair because...
  2. Nancy, who says you have to drink alcohol? Just stick with pop if you question the ingredients of alcoholic beverages. Plus, if you aren't feeling good already, the alcohol might make it worse. I hate alcohol, it has never agreed with me. I don't care about being teased, NOBODY can get me to drink any. Enjoy the company without drinking with them!
  3. Hi Cindy, and welcome to these boards. Yes, it is quite acceptable for you to be angry. You ought to be. I was angry too, when I found out at the age of 52 that I had been gluten intolerant all my life and had all the symptoms from the age of three, and no doctor figured it out in nearly fifty years! I am sure my eight miscarriages were due to gluten...
  4. I used a lotion once without reading the ingredients (before I knew about gluten intolerance), when I had been found to be intolerant to the combination of grains and fruit (I am intolerant to all grains and most fruit, but the combination is even worse). This lotion contained oat bran and apple something. As soon as I had rubbed it all over my arms, they...
  5. I changed my picture, to see if it works, and it went without a hitch. Is your picture bigger than 50 kilobytes? I don't have any idea what is wrong if that isn't it. You may have to contact Scott (admin) about that.
  6. Now that made me laugh, how funny! Sorry you have to give up dairy, too. But hopefully you'll feel better for it and it will be worth it.
  7. Grains and starches make me feel bloated and sick and I had to cut them all out of my diet. Once in a while (maybe once every six weeks or so) I will bake something that contains light buckwheat (dark makes me sick). But I know not to eat it more often, as it doesn't really agree with me. I just need a treat now and then. I can't have any lectins, they...
  8. Calcium supplementation is a good idea. But it has to be combined with magnesium and vitamin D to be useful to our bodies. Since most people are more likely to be deficient in magnesium than calcium, a good supplement would be one that contains calcium and magnesium 1:1. I was having bad knee and foot pain just recently, and my naturopathic doctor thought...
  9. I agree with gfp that generally, dairy isn't good for anybody. Cow's milk is food for calves, not people. Somehow some people seem to be able to tolerate a limited amount of dairy. But the tips of your villi are supposed to produce the enzyme lactase, which is essential for the digestion of dairy. If your villi are damaged, they can't do that, and so I...
  10. I am glad you are so much better. I hope you'll keep improving and will be able to enjoy your vacation with the kids. I'll be praying.
  11. Hi, and welcome to this board. I am glad you will go gluten-free along with your husband, it would be great if all spouses were as concerned as you. He won't have to worry about cross contamination and that will be one of the best gifts you can give him. In addition to food items, you also need to think of vitamins, medications and personal care products...
  12. I have a million intolerances (as you can see in my signature), and have been taking the hypoallergenic Nu-Thera multi from Open Original Shared Link without any problems.
  13. Mandy, feeling fatigued and depressed might have nothing at all to do with just eating vegetables and meat (that is all I can have, too). You may just have withdrawal symptoms from finally eliminating gluten again! Those withdrawal symptoms could last up to two weeks. So, give it that long before you decide that the SCD diet isn't working for you. And...
  14. Jerri, have you considered the possibility of other intolerances? I am intolerant to all lectins, not just gluten. Rice will give me the same symptoms as gluten, and so will eggs and soy. Dairy is terrible as well. Both dairy and soy can cause blunting of villi and malabsorption, not just gluten. I used to have intolerable joint and muscle pain and was...
  15. You may be gluten intolerant without celiac disease (which is one form of gluten intolerance). In that case your blood tests would always be negative, but it is just as serious as celiac disease. From your positive response to the gluten-free diet I believe your doctor is wrong and as ill informed on gluten intolerance as most doctors. You may be dairy...
  16. Paula, I am sorry you lost your friend and wonderful neighbour. I know it will be hard this summer, when you know you would do barbecues and she isn't there. I will be praying for you, your family and her family.
  17. I feel I must disagree about the blood test. There are people here who had negative blood tests, but positive biopsies. Before any of those blood tests will be positive, your intestines have to be in terrible shape first to make enough antibodies to show up in those tests. Once your villi are pretty much completely flattened, the blood tests are quite accurate...
  18. Your doctor doesn't know what he is talking about when he tells you the tests are 100% accurate, and you can't have celiac disease. Those tests are in fact quite unreliable, and a negative blood test and biopsy can never rule out celiac disease. Your small intestine has a surface area as large as a tennis court (or was it football field?.......no matter...
  19. Jyn, I am sorry you still feel so bad. Have you been tested for adrenal fatigue and hypothyroidism? Both are very common with celiac disease, and especially adrenal fatigue can be directly caused by it. I know how you feel, though. I never had much energy as a kid already, but after having kids my energy was just gone. I have been made to feel like a burden...
  20. Hi, and welcome to this board. Your doctor appears to be fairly ignorant about celiac disease. You daughter has the celiac disease gene, she has the symptoms, why would she not want her to be on the gluten-free diet? Most Crohn's patients are helped by the gluten-free diet as well. So, you can't go wrong in putting her on a 100% gluten-free diet. I think...
  21. You may be low in vitamin K, which is common in celiac disease. Vitamin K is essential for blood clotting.
  22. Your body adjusted to now getting the proper nutrients, and I believe it was healthy weight loss. 135 pounds for somebody 5'6" tall seems perfect to me, definitely not too little. My youngest daughter is 5'9" and weighs about the same as you, and she is definitely not skinny. So, don't worry, I think you are doing fine. My son is 24 years old this...
  23. Well, I am a 53-year-old woman, and I still have the same problem! I don't think it has anything to do with celiac disease, though. It is embarrassing, but there is nothing I can do about it.
  24. Okay, since you know it bothers you, why do you drink it? Give it up and see what difference it makes. Also, you may be intolerant to casein, in which case drinking lactose free milk will still give you glutened symptoms. And gfp is right, NONE of us should be consuming dairy. Cows milk is the ideal food for calves. Human breast milk is the ideal food...
  25. If you scratch it, and dry flakes will come off, leaving a rash with pin-dot bleeding spots, it is pretty much guaranteed to be psoriasis. Why don't you try that and see what happens. If I am wrong, keep looking. Mind you, even doctors often 'diagnose' psoriasis, even if it is DH.
