  1. Jerri, you may be right. Being hungry all the time could be a sign of malnutrition. My naturopathic doctor also told me that weight gain can be a sign of malnutrition, too, not just weight loss. If her intestines aren't absorbing essential nutrients, your niece would constantly feel like eating, because really, she is starving! So, yes, she may well have...
  2. I agree that the endoscopy would be a good idea. Just beware that even the biopsy isn't that accurate and yields false negatives. The intestines have a very large surface area, and the biopsies aren't necessarily taken from the damaged areas. Therefore, if you get a positive biopsy, it is celiac disease, but if the biopsy comes back negative, it could still...
  3. I agree. This lady was past rude, she was abusive. And you're right, somebody will get very sick, you nearly bought the cookies yourself. Somebody like her shouldn't be a manager, she doesn't seem to have any people skills (and she doesn't appear to care about people).
  4. Why don't you send her a PM and ask her where she has been hiding herself? It shows you care, and might give her an incentive to come here (or a boost if she isn't feeling well).

It's almost worse when you do have siblings who get tested at your suggestion, and their blood work comes back negative. And then, even though they are obviously gluten intolerant, the doctor tells them they have NO problem with gluten, and to keep eating it, it's just IBS, and they believe the doctor, and you are dismissed as this crackpot who is 'obsessed...
  6. I hope you can find some food sources near you soon. By the way, the mods can't delete any posts, only Scott can do that. Do you have a bulk-food store or a health food store near you? If they don't have any gluten-free foods, you can always ask them if they could get some in. I did that, and now several more places in my little town carry gluten-free...
  7. It's German for Grandma (Dutch as well). So, it isn't my name, just who I am to little Hanna and the other little sweeties I call my grandchildren.
  8. Oops, brain freeze or something. . I've got bronchitis and are really ill, I hope you can forgive me! Maybe I was so dazzled by looking at that new picture of you, that I didn't know momentarily what I was doing.
  9. Well, Larry, maybe you weren't meant to like or eat the bread, as it contains dairy! If it's that bad, just toss it, and don't buy it again (which you shouldn't anyway). But I understand, I've done the same sort of thing and paid for it. It's dumb, though, and not worth it.
  10. Mandy, the celiac society has misinformed you. Six weeks is very unlikely to be long enough to destroy your villi again so you'll end up with a positive biopsy. Six months would possibly be enough.
  11. I can totally understand why Noel did his little gluten challenge. Wouldn't you question if you really had celiac disease after you've had no improvement on a gluten-free diet? I sure would! Noel, are you sure you have eliminated all gluten? Did you buy a new toaster, new strainer for pasta, new cutting board? You shouldn't be using scratched teflon coated...
  12. Those bands with the pressure points are called Sea Bands, and are the only thing that works for me for motion sickness. I have heard that they do work for severe morning sickness as well. They cost anywhere from $15.00 to $20.00 (a ripoff, but still worth it because they work), and you get them in the pharmacy. Just ask the pharmacist, he/she will know exactly...
  13. Coconut oil would be my choice if I wouldn't be intolerant to it, as it is extremely healthy (and it is semi-solid). I use lard for all my baking, and it works great for cookies. Just make sure you find lard that is non-hydrogenated.

Anne Dodge's name could be changed into many names here, her story is so similar to what has happened to lots of people here. It doesn't seem to take much these days for a doctor to claim you have a mental problem, just because they can't figure out what is wrong with you.
  15. Well, that's why I don't put the name of my town, because it's a fairly small town. With putting what I do you sort of get an idea of where I am, but Ontario is huge (just about as big as all of Germany), so I feel it is safe to put my province and country.
  16. If you go to 'my controls', then to 'edit profile information', you scroll down to 'my location' and put it in, click on 'amend my profile', and it will appear on the left hand side below your avatar.
  17. Jenny, I am self-diagnosed, doctors have failed me. I figured it out at the age of 52, and have never been well since I was three years old! But my doctors (both my MD and my naturopathic doctor) agree that I am at least gluten intolerant, and possibly celiac disease, based on the dietary response (and getting really sick when doing a gluten challenge...
  18. What is a tuna mornay? I gather it contains gluten? Georgie, you shouldn't be using regular flour in your kitchen at all, get rid of it! NOBODY is allowed to use flour in my kitchen, and I wouldn't dream of using it myself, no matter who comes to visit! I hope you won't get sick. But if you do, look at it as a valuable lesson, never to be repeated. You...
  19. My joint pains were caused by all lectins. They are all grains (including gluten ones, rice and corn), eggs, dairy, nightshades and legumes (including peanuts and soy). Rice, eggs and gluten are the worst for joint pain, but nightshades and the rest of them aren't far behind. If you want to know more about lectins, follow the link in my signature.
  20. Even though soy in general isn't as healthy or safe as most people think, the reason to avoid soy sauce is that most of the time, wheat is the first ingredient! There are wheat-free soy sauces out there, one of them being Tamari soy sauce by Life Soy. I think I read that another one is Kikoman (or something like that). You might want to try goats milk...
  21. Sarah, what most doctors (and as a rule, they know NOTHING about nutrition) don't tell you is, that an allergy and an intolerance are two different things. Those tests you had done only register immediate reactions, while intolerances often have delayed reactions. Your son could well be dairy intolerant, and it wouldn't show up on allergy testing. A dairy...
  22. Jenn, does your daughter have celiac disease? Do you? If she hasn't been diagnosed with celiac disease, it is possible that her problems could be a symptom of celiac disease. I had those same tests, and I don't believe that they would see what would happen after the test, unless there would have been seizure activity without obvious outward expression...
  23. Have you substituted all your favourite foods, like pasta, bread, cookies, doughnuts etc. with gluten-free items? That could be a big problem, because those things have a lot more sugar and refined carbs than the 'real' thing, and will definitely lead to weight gain, unless you cut back on them. Don't make them everyday staples, but rather treats. But...
  24. Your doctor is very ill informed about celiac disease. Ftt is ONE possible symptom of celiac disease in babies. But even though it's a red flag for celiac disease, it isn't nearly always present. For some kids the only symptom could be ADD, or anemia, or angry outbursts! Your son has enough symptoms to be tested. And even though he is growing, he isn...
