  1. Buzz, it looks like you have a casein intolerance. Meaning ALL dairy products need to be eliminated from your diet as well as gluten.
  2. I used to clench my teeth so badly that I would wake up in the morning with jaw pain. I also had severe TMJ and misaligned jaws, until I had braces from the ages of 44 to 47. After that I had a mouthguard/retainer. I still have it, but don't really need it now, as I stopped clenching my teeth. It took over a year on the gluten-free diet before I stopped clenching...
  3. Valda, it's true, you have to have 500 posts to be able to have a custom title. So, keep posting, and soon you can have it say whatever you want. Betty, I'd never have guessed you're 45, you appear to be 'well preserved' anyway.
  4. I edited my above post at the same time as you made your picture your avatar. So, if you want your own custom title, follow the directions above. Nice avatar, by the way!
  5. Betty, if you want it to show up with your posts, you need to make it your avatar. Go to 'My Controls', then to 'avatar settings', choose it again as your avatar, click on 'update avatar' . You can have two different pictures for your avatar and your personal photo. I keep my personal photo constant, but change my avatar periodically. If you want to...
  6. Kev, apparently your doctor is quite ignorant about celiac disease. The blood tests are not very reliable, and yield many false negatives. There are several people here who had a negative blood test, but a positive biopsy. On the other hand, if your villi aren't pretty much destroyed, both may come back negative, but if you keep eating gluten, could...
  7. Mandy, really, six weeks of eating gluten again will not likely result in a positive biopsy. If it is negative, will you then believe it is not celiac disease, and give up on the gluten-free diet, because the doctor says you have no problem with gluten? Quite a few people here ate four slices of bread for four months or more, and still got a negative...
  8. Hi Hydra, and welcome to these boards. Do you know that ALL of your mental health problems could have been caused by celiac disease? So, be aware that you may need to slowly get off all your meds over time, as they would make things worse if not needed any more. Gluten will act like an opiate on the brain in people intolerant to it, and can cause depression...
  9. Hi, and welcome to these boards. Since the blood tests are very unreliable, even in adults, you still may have celiac disease yourself. Your daughter obviously inherited it from somebody! I always had terrible pregnancies, and you having hard pregnancies with trowing up several times a day could be due to gluten intolerance. So, there is nothing stopping...
  10. I got glutened yesterday, and today I am wheezing. I had no asthma symptoms for a long time, and wasn't exposed to mold, cigarette smoke or animals, which usually make me wheeze. It had to be the gluten.
  11. Hi Mandy, and welcome to these boards. I am sorry you feel so sick. How long were you on the gluten-free diet? If you had your blood test for celiac disease after being gluten-free for a while, it could have been a false negative, as you have to be eating gluten for the test to be positive. In order to have a positive biopsy you need to eat a lot of...
  12. Personally, if you tested as being casein intolerant, I would be careful about adding dairy back into my diet! You don't necessarily get easily identifiable gastrointestinal symptoms from dairy. My husband's cousin can't have any dairy at all. Her symptom upon eating even small amounts of dairy? Severe depression within hours, that is only alleviated by eliminating...
  13. Jem, I used to have excruciating muscle and joint pain. I now know that celiac disease is only part of the puzzle. I had to eliminate all lectins (gluten is one of those) and foods high in salicylates for most of the pain to be gone. I used to be on codeine 24 hours a day, and now only rarely need painkillers (whenever I am glutened or have eaten something...
  14. If your son will eat meat only when pureed at this point, why not give it to him that way for a while longer? Meat is such an important source of iron as well as protein, which are both essential for proper brain development at his age, that he really needs it. I am sure he'll eventually eat regular food. Why does it matter when he'll finally switch? The...
  15. Hi Anneliz, and welcome to these boards. You will not likely get many responses here, as it is a thread LadyBoss started to get support for herself. It would be better if you copied what you said here, and pasted it again when starting your own topic. For your height being 105 pounds would be underweight, not normal. 120 pounds was a good weight, and ...
  16. All your symptoms point to possible celiac disease, including the depression. I agree that if your doctor won't do the blood work, you need to find yourself a new doctor, who isn't as ignorant on celiac disease as this one. Try to get another appointment as soon as possible, and insist on doing the tests for celiac disease. Not everybody with celiac disease...
  17. Yes, I am intolerant to all grains including rice and corn. You might want to check out my lectin link in my signature. I also can't tolerate any starch, really. I use light buckwheat flour once in a while, but have to limit that to about once a month, as even that will cause bloating and gas. But I have to have a baked treat once in a while!
  18. Hi, and welcome to this board. I am sorry to hear how sick you are, and that you have found no support this far. You will have no choice but stop being so picky. You need to eat, and you need to eat the things your body wants. Your kids need you. Stop cooking food filled with gluten for your kids! Meat, vegetables, fruit, nuts are all naturally gluten...
  19. The problem with the blood tests is, that first of all they are extremely unreliable in children under five and yield many false positives (and aren't all that reliable with older kids and adults, either). And unless the villi are practically destroyed, the blood tests won't show anything anyway. So, you may have caught it BEFORE there is extensive damage...

ARCHIVED Doctor #1 Vs Doctor #2

Hi Murray, I agree with Deb. Listen to your new doctor, and become 100% gluten-free! Even if it is 'only' a gluten intolerance, you still shouldn't cheat on the diet. Because even if you don't destroy your villi, you can have all kinds of other damage if you keep getting gluten.
  21. I am sorry to say this, but I don't believe it is a good idea to try to become pregnant at this point. Your intestines haven't healed well enough yet to absorb enough nutrients to ensure a healthy pregnancy. I was unable to take vitamins for a while, even after going gluten-free. They would cause terrible stomach cramps and diarrhea. I also couldn't tolerate...
  22. Kris, what you're telling us about your son makes great sense. I don't see those colours. But I have communicated with many people on the autistic spectrum who see different colours for all kinds of things. I don't read facial expressions well, either, but I can somehow feel it when somebody is angry. The whole room will feel angry, and I will feel very...
  23. Sandy, I didn't even think of that, but you're so right about just watching the clock in horror as the minutes tick by, too paralyzed by the thought of not being able to do what they demand in just one minute! I do very poorly on any timed tests. If they'd try to do a timed IQ test on me, I would suddenly not have a very high IQ any more . Unfortunately...
  24. As Carla said, the blood work is negative. That could mean one of three things: 1) You have no problem with gluten 2) You have celiac disease, but your villi aren't damaged enough yet for your blood work to be positive 3) You don't officially have celiac disease, but you are gluten intolerant There is one way to find out: Go on the gluten-free...
  25. What a great doctor! Getting to Jay's eye level (making himself less ominous), and showing interest in what is the most important subject to him shows he really cares. Alison, if they would have done 'mad minutes' when I was a kid, I would have shut down for the day right there. Poor little girl, how very unfair, to only count the right answers up to the...
