  1. Would a genetic test for the most common Celiac Disease genes be a possibility? If you've got the genes and the villi damage from the biopsy, would that be enough for your doctor to make a definite Celiac diagnosis?
  2. I've found a tallow balm from Vintage Tradition that is exceptional at helping my skin whether it's eczema, psoriasis or a DH flare. It really helped when I was deficient in niacin (vitamin B2) and developed an itchy scaly dermatitis. It got worse when exposed to sunlight. It looked like flat blisters that dried and flattened into scales and itched awfully...
  3. Penguin11, I found a couple of articles for you about mouth sores having a connection to vitamin deficiencies which can occur with Celiac Disease. And... "Recurrent aphthous ulceration: vitamin B1, B2 and B6 status and response to replacement therapy" https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1941656/ And, yes, I have had symptoms...

  5. Unintentional weight loss is a classic symptom of Thiamine deficiency. Muscle wasting is a classic symptom of Thiamine deficiency. Your body needs thiamine to turn carbohydrates into energy. Without enough thiamine, your body burns fat and muscle as energy sources because this route doesn't require thiamine. Please read this article....and the...
  6. Yes, gluten or wheat based fillers are often used in medications. Your doctor and your pharmacist need to review your prescriptions and change them to gluten free versions of the same medications.
  7. You can have thiamine deficiency with or without Celiac Disease. Antibiotics for bad skin and antibiotics for SIBO can contribute to Thiamine deficiency. Antibiotics cause thiamine depletion. Sulfa drugs, including sulfa based antibiotics or the sulfa preservatives used in them, contribute to Thiamine deficiency. Your body needs thiamine to process...

  9. Sweet potatoes also contain thiaminase, an enzyme that destroys thiamine ( vitamin B1). Sweet potatoes are high carbohydrate. You need 0.5mg per 1000 calories. You need more to combat the thiaminase and the large amount of carbohydrates. Ppi's will cause malabsorption of thiamine. Antibiotics, like those given for SIBO, can precipitate thiamine...

  12. I wrote this post about vitamin deficiency testing which is not always an accurate measurement of vitamin status. It's been my experience that doctors may routinely test B12 and Vitamin D, but not thiamine or the other B vitamins. Could you share your vitamin test results? http://www.hormonesmatter.com/vitamin-therapy-paradox/
  13. Ffinley, You poor thing! My heart goes out to you. I suffered from terrible neuropathy. My doctors blew me off as hypochondriac, and I lost my livelihood, too. I found answers.... 15. I agree with Trents that malabsorption due to villi damaged by Celiac Disease is one reason deficiencies of folate, B12, and iron persist after a gluten free diet. Another possible reason could be that Celiacs don't choose foods high in folate, B12, and iron, foods like liver and green leafy vegetables. Wheat flour is legally required to be enriched...
  16. I think this thread might be helpful..... Hope this helps...
  17. There's been more studies done that show that Type Two Diabetes DOES have autoimmune components. "Type 2 Diabetes: How Much of an Autoimmune Disease?" https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6620611/ I have Type Two Diabetes and Celiac Disease. My diabetes diagnosis came before my Celiac diagnosis. Diabetes is so much easier to...
  18. Tracy, I started with thiamine nitrate, too. I started with one a day, but quickly started taking 100 mg with every meal. My body craved the pills. Not chocolate, thiamine supplements. Weird. After lots of research, I found Drs. Lonsdale and Marrs and ordered allithiamine and lipothiamine. There is an immense difference between the thiamine nitrate...
  19. Tracy, I was hoping for more from your doctor. So sad doctors aren't as educated about vitamins as we need them to be. Heavy sigh. Glad he did advise to keep taking the vitamins you've bought. The form of thiamine I found most helpful is lipothiamine or allithiamine because this form will cross the blood brain barrier and Dr. Derek Lonsdale...
  20. DH is aggravated by Iodine. Try cutting iodine sources out of your diet. Iodine is found in iodized salt (switch to Himalayan Sea Salt), eggs, dairy, shellfish, and seaweed among others. Hope this helps!
  21. Take your B Complex vitamins.... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7428453/ Be well: A potential role for vitamin B in COVID-19 And Vitamin D https://www.news-medical.net/news/20210121/Vitamin-D-deficiency-associated-with-higher-risk-of-COVID-19-hospitalization.aspx Vitamin D deficiency associated with higher risk...
  22. Glad to be able to help. I would like my experience to be of value to others. Jade's reaction to the single vitamin tablet suggests to me it is thiamine deficiency (with other vitamin deficiencies as well). Thiamine deficiency can dramatically improve within minutes or hours like that. I'm waiting on pins and needles to hear what the doctors...
  23. Tracy, If you have both HLA DQ 2 and HLA DQ 8, you have two genes for Celiac. "I am interested in seeing if she has both HLA DQ2 and DQ8 genes. I have read if you have both, it excludes having celiacs, not sure how accurate that is." Not an accurate statement at all... If you have both HLA DQ 2 and HLA DQ 8, you can have Celiac. If...
  24. Fingers crossed... Do keep us posted on your daughter's progress. 😺
  25. Tracy, Wait until after the test for vitamins on Monday. If you start supplementing now, you will invalidate the tests. The tests will measure the supplements in her system. You should talk to your doctor before administering thiamine yourself. The doctor may wish to administer an IV of high dose thiamine and witness the results. https...
