knitty kitty posted a blog entry in Thiamine Thiamine Thiamine
Below are links to studies showing that vitamins in the B Complex help relieve anxiety and depression. References: Dietary intake of B vitamins and their association with depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms: A cross-sectional, population-based survey https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33848753/ The Role of Vitamins and Minerals in...-

Fuelling exercise -corn and other gluten free grains
knitty kitty replied to Gilly M's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
@Gilly M, The B Complex should not keep you up at night if you take it in the morning. The methylated forms are forms that the body uses. If we take forms of B vitamins that are not methylated, our bodies still have to change them to the methylated forms in order to use them. You can change to unmethylated forms if you wish, just don't take Folic... -
Fuelling exercise -corn and other gluten free grains
knitty kitty replied to Gilly M's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
@Gilly M, Apologies for not being able to answer sooner. I hope you are feeling better. Are you keeping a food/mood/poo'd journal? It can help link what is eaten and drunk with the outcome (sandy stools). I do hope you are taking the whole B Complex by now. B Complex is water soluble. Any you don't absorb will be easily excreted... -
Celiac getting dentures
knitty kitty replied to AnnK73's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
@Janine Barta, Welcome to the forum! Dental anesthesia can precipitate a deficiency in Cobalamine B12. Nitrogen compounds in anesthesia bind irrevocably with Cobalamine making it useless. Symptoms of B12 deficiency can appear several weeks after the dental procedure. Have you been checked for nutritional deficiencies since your Celiac... -
Fuelling exercise -corn and other gluten free grains
knitty kitty replied to Gilly M's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
@Gilly M, I think that B Complex is a great choice. The symptoms you've described are very familiar (I've experienced them, too) and are in line with Thiamine and B vitamin deficiency symptoms. In Thiamine deficiency, the body cannot regulate temperature well, hence the shivering. The frequent trips to the bathroom day or night can be... -
Fuelling exercise -corn and other gluten free grains
knitty kitty replied to Gilly M's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
@Gilly M, Take the B Complex and Vitamin D every day for two weeks. The eight B vitamins are essential to life. We need all eight every day. You need to take the B Complex. The methylated forms are "ready to use" forms of the B vitamins. Taking an additional sublingual B12 supplement should take care of any over-methylation potential... -
Unraveling Celiac Disease Symptoms, Diet Adherence, and Quality of Life
knitty kitty commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Latest Research
Yes, nightshades include tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant and peppers. All contain Lectins. Nightshades also contain glycoalkaloids which promote zonulin production in the gut. Zonulin promotes "leaky gut syndrome" allowing particles of incompletely digested food to pass into our blood stream causing inflammation in joints, muscles, nerves, and organs...- 31 comments

Unraveling Celiac Disease Symptoms, Diet Adherence, and Quality of Life
knitty kitty commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Latest Research
@Leann horne, Plants contain Lectins. Lectins are proteins that bind carbohydrates together. Lectins are concentrated in the seeds of plants. Gluten is a lectin in wheat. Zein is the lectin in corn (maize). There are lectins in rice, and other edible grains and seeds. Legumes (beans) and pulses contain lectins. Nuts are high in lectins. There...- 31 comments

Cycle of dermatitis herpetiformis
knitty kitty replied to Itchyperson's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
@Itchyperson, I've had the same problem with outbreaks in that area. Dermatitis Herpetiformis is pressure sensitive. Any place where there's pressure on the skin can cause a dermatitis herpetiformis sore to occur. I've had dermatitis herpetiformis blister on my fingers where I hold my pen and my knitting needles. I've developed dermatitis herpetiformis... -
Unraveling Celiac Disease Symptoms, Diet Adherence, and Quality of Life
knitty kitty commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Latest Research
@Leann horne, Welcome to the forum. I agree with @Wheatwacked. Your fainting after rice sounds like a deficiency in Thiamine. Thiamine is needed to turn carbohydrates into energy for our bodies. A sudden influx of simple carbohydrates like rice can cause a big demand for Thiamine. If we don't have sufficient Thiamine, the body starts...- 31 comments

Test Result Interpretation
knitty kitty replied to Zoe246's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
@Zoe246, Looks like you had a low tTg IgG. Your tTg IgA result is low because your total IgA result is low. If you're not producing sufficient IgA in general (total IgA), then the doctors cannot/should not use low tTg IgA to make a diagnosis. Total IgA and tTg IgA production can be affected by anemia and deficiency in Thiamine Vitamin... -
Chest Pain
knitty kitty replied to Hiawatha's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello, @Hiawatha, Improving ones posture while eating can help us swallow less air while eating. Sit up straight, both feet on the floor. Sitting hunched over with a rounded back traps more air. And chew your food well! Thirty chews for each bite of food. Our moms were right! To help trapped gas after eating, try standing on tip toes and let... -
@MelissaLMandrick, It's common to have deficiencies in lots of vitamins and minerals in newly diagnosed celiac disease because the inflammation and damage to the small intestine makes absorption difficult. Vitamin D is essential in regulating the immune system and is frequently low in the newly diagnosed, as are the eight essential B vitamins...
-
Hello, @MelissaLMandrick, Yes, in an indirect way. Vitamin D deficiency affects calcium, phosphorus and other electrolytes. Keeping a balance in these minerals is important in sending electrical nerve signals throughout the brain and body. When there's a disruption in the balance, short circuits or seizures can result. B Complex vitamins are...

Diarrhea mystery solved after a year
knitty kitty replied to Jujuconnor's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
@Jujuconnor, Did the doctors give you Thiamine at the same time as you received the magnesium? Magnesium supplementation alone won't work. Magnesium needs Thiamine to work properly. I'm glad you will see doctors in two weeks! Do try to eat more green leafy vegetables (romaine has thiamine) and meat (liver is a great source of B vitamins... -
Diarrhea mystery solved after a year
knitty kitty replied to Jujuconnor's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Your blood test for Thiamine was done in October. Thiamine blood levels can fluctuate depending on dietary thiamine. Blood level can reflect how much I was absorbed from ones diet in the previous twenty-four to forty-eight hours. The body requires more Thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally stressed, and if physically active outdoors... -
Silent celiac
knitty kitty replied to Dee may's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Covid M95 masks would protect you from inhaled gluten, (as long as it covers your nose), but your eyes will still be exposed to airborne gluten. Taking a B Complex, magnesium and copper, along with iron supplements, can improve your anemia. Thyroid problems can be improved with Thiamine supplementation. Thiamine Vitamin B1 is important in thyroid... -
@Pxidis, LactOse is the milk sugar in cow's milk. LactAse is the digestive enzyme needed to break down LactOse. LactAse is produced in the tips of the villi in the small intestine. The villi absorb vitamins and minerals from the small intestine, kinda like an anemone filtering seawater in the ocean. In celiac disease, the immune system attacks...

Diarrhea mystery solved after a year
knitty kitty replied to Jujuconnor's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
@Jujuconnor, That's a test for Thiamine in whole blood. Whole blood tests for Thiamine are not an accurate measurement of the amount of Thiamine inside cells where thiamine is actually used. An Erythrocyte Transketolase test gives a more accurate measurement. Thiamine is pulled out of cells in organs in order to supply the brain and heart... -

@Jujuconnor, Thiamine deficiency can manifest as Gastrointestinal Beriberi, with symptoms very similar to yours. I'm attaching some studies that describe Gastrointestinal Beriberi so you can compare symptoms. Since your health is fragile right now, I suggest you find a doctor to address your nutritional deficiencies. Doctors can administer... -

Here's some more information on Thiamine. The form of Thiamine that's especially beneficial for the digestive system is called Benfotiamine. I take it regularly. Thiamine and benfotiamine: Focus on their therapeutic potential https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10682628/ -
Body and exercise not how they used to be.
knitty kitty replied to dhooden's topic in Sports and Fitness
@dhooden, Deficiencies in the eight essential B vitamins occur in Celiac Disease. You may have become low (subclinical deficiencies) prior to diagnosis. knitty kitty replied to SJBowman's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
@SJBowman, Undiagnosed Celiac Disease causes malabsorption of vitamins and minerals. Nutritional deficiencies caused by undiagnosed Celiac Disease need to be corrected promptly. Advice please before I see dr again
knitty kitty replied to ItchDrivingMeCrazy's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
@ItchDrivingMeCrazy, Rashes and neuropathy caused by deficiencies in the B vitamins would begin to appear after several weeks after a depletion caused by fighting Covid. The eight B vitamins cannot be stored for long. Deficiency symptoms can appear in as little as two to four weeks. Deficiencies in the B vitamins will also cause peripheral neuropathy...
