ARCHIVED Enterolab Results
tiffjake replied to flampton's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just want to second that there is no way to get them to get tested if they don't WANT to. My fathers mother died from complications of non-tropical spue (they didn't even know she had it until she had stomach cancer and holes in her intestines!). When he told me that, while I was dealing with my health, I freaked out on him. I told him that I have it (based... -

ARCHIVED Blood Pressure
tiffjake replied to VydorScope's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Mine used to be really low, like 90/60 and since going gluten-free it has evened out to an average of 124/78. I am thinking that whether it gets higher or lower, if it is BETTER then the gluten-free diet is helping! right? I was really anemic, so I think that is why mine was so low. And I had chest pains a lot, so I have a home BP kit. That is cool that... -
ARCHIVED Am I Crazy?
tiffjake replied to hungryforlife's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have to agree. My (blood) tests (at my primary docs office) came back negative after only 3 weeks of firm gluten free living, and he said that the levels wouldn't have dropped that fast, so he wouldn't "diagnose" me, but I knew how I felt. No more acid reflux, BM problems, migrains, muscle aches and pains, sleeping problems....I didn't need him to say it... -
ARCHIVED Ordering Gluten Free In A Restaurant
tiffjake replied to kari's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I waited tables for 4 years and really loved it. It is hard work, but you get satisfaction out of knowing that you are making someones meal special if you do it right. I REALLY appreciate servers now that I know what they do, and I know that they are going out of their way to look for gluten. I have had some bad experiences, but more good, with servers watching... -

Thanks so much for both of those sites, but I am not able to find the gluten free packets on the kari-out site. Have you purchased them from the site? I see where they are talking about it, but now where to go to buy it..... -
ARCHIVED M&m's Off The gluten-free Call In List
tiffjake replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh no, I love M&Ms, but snickers is a meal in a pinch, so I am REALLY hoping that is not the case!!!!!!! -
Hey! I am going too!!! The one in Dallas! In May!! But to answer your guestion, no, I wasn't aware of the celiac the last time that I went...but it was fun! I will get intouch with them, and if you do too, let us all know what you find out!!! You will have a blast. (PS- BUT, I went to the one in San Antonio, and HATED IT, but I think that I went on a bad...

I am sooo sorry to hear about that. I don't live with my family, but when I am around them for the holidays, they just don't get it. So I do know what thats like. I agree with the above responses. You can control what is right infront of you. If they are having steak and potato for dinner, then you can have that, but what if they are having spaghetti (sp...

I paid 30.00 for an allergist specialist that my doc recomended, and this guy told me to do the elimination diet....I was like "excuse me????"....and he wanted me to quit taking my claratin (for allergy reactions in the spring) and come back in 2 weeks for a "scratch test" for another 30.00.....all because I had questions about food allergies and intolerences...

ARCHIVED Email From Cracker Barrel
tiffjake replied to glutenfreeheather's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
That is really great to know! I love that place too!! I have eaten there, just trusting my gut (no pun intended) and got a salad and steak. That was before I knew about CC and just worried about fried stuff. I didn't get sick either. I think it might actually depend on the location, as to how careful they are, and which suppliers they have for the salad dressing... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Doc In Dallas, Tx Conference
tiffjake replied to tiffjake's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Well, I decided not to spend the money in the end. I didn't realize that is was only 2 weeks away and that I don't have the cash on hand, my, time flys! Feels like it is still Jan to me. -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Doc In Dallas, Tx Conference
tiffjake posted a topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Is anyone going to the Conference in Dallas on March 3rd-5th? I want to go, and stay in the adam's mark hotel (where the conference is being held) and I was wondering if anyone else is going. The rooms are 129.00 a night (for one king or two queens). If you don't have a hotel and would like to share a room please let me know asap!!!! If you are going but... -
ARCHIVED Ingesting Gluten Didn't Affect Me
tiffjake replied to Iman Aussie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My situation is like this. I hate to admit this, but I had pizza a couple of weeks ago, and it did nothing. But I had a broc and cheese soup and I was sick for DAYS straight (and I mean, food poison-kinda sick, constant bathroom trips.......) Needless to say, I have learned my lesson. What I think it "little" ends up being big, so no point in taking the... -
ARCHIVED Trying To Figure Out Family History
tiffjake replied to guy220d's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My paternal grandmother died when my father was 12 years old. They told the family that she had non-tropical sprue, but nothing else about what that meant for the rest of the family. As far as my dad understood, she had stomach cancer. My dad and I have ALWAYS had stomach troubles. When I found out about my celiac, I told my dad, who has cut out the gluten... -
I usually have that reaction right away, and then the stomach stuff following..... I had that discussion with my doc. He actually knew what I was talking about and tested me for the thyroid problems because I have a lot of the symptoms, and the celiac, so there is a greater chance. I totally agree with your statement about the medical system...

ARCHIVED Metronidazole
tiffjake replied to Rachel--24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh that stinks!!! Well, from what I understand, if you are traveling, you can get (atleast a small amount) your probiotics from yogurt (like if you are staying at a friends for a week or something). You can also buy milk that is fortified with acidopholous (sp?) that has the live and active cultures in the milk. I have seen it at my local "average" grocery... -
ARCHIVED I Just Died And Went To gluten-free Heaven!
tiffjake replied to tiffjake's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well,I just started a new diet, LA Weightloss, and I have to cook all of my foods, so I am going to be a pro soon, but my oh my, I will still love my eating out when I get it!!!!!!! -
I have it. It is not bad. I get a little irritated when something I am looking at in the store is not listed in their database. But they say that they they are always updating it. Guess there are always newer foods out there and it is hard to keep up with the software. But it is a good tool. It has really helped me with sauces and stuff like that.

ARCHIVED I Just Died And Went To gluten-free Heaven!
tiffjake replied to tiffjake's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh my gosh that sounds so good!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
I used to get really bad migraines and neck and shoulder pain. My doc (military doc) gave me the giant military horse pills (800 milligrams) of Ibuprofin. I was hurting so bad that I was taking nearly 3200 milligrams of ibuprofin a day!! (4 horse pills) I started feeling dizzy, muscle weakness, fatigue, and other strange symptoms. I went in to the doctor...

ARCHIVED Metronidazole
tiffjake replied to Rachel--24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wish I would have seen your post earlier! I am a pharmacy tech and I have been on Metronidazole myself for a female infection and it was horrible! MOST people have some sort of reaction because it is a really heavy duty medication. It will kill just about any infection. I have had most people get it along with phenergan, to reduce the nausa and upset stomach...
