  1. I totally hear ya on that one. I am used to going out nearly 5 times a week and there just aren't that many gluten-free menus out there! So I am having to learn a lot of new stuff! Hang in there. I hve a feeling there will be more and more popping up in the next year or two.
  2. Thanks so much! I am looking for something to try when myhusband gets home from Iraq!
  3. I would recomend getting a couple of books: Dangerous Grains (if you like the scientific stuff) Wheat Free, Worry Free by Danna Korn And there are some really easy recipes in: Wheat-free, Gluten-free Cookbook for Kids and busy adults by Connie Sarros I am pretty new to all of this too ( just a couple of months in for me) and I have a general rule to stay...
  4. Um, well, to be honest, I can't remember! I got a lot of stuff online from sites like glutino.com and just stocked up a couple of months ago and they have been in the freezer for a couple of months. But I think that I got them from the kinnickinik website. I ordered the brownies, the doughnuts (also super yummy!) and the cinnamon buns, which I haven't tried...
  5. Ok, I am a serious chocolate lover, big time, and these Kinnikinnick JB Brownie Squares are SOOOOOO good!!!!! I have been looking and looking for that perfect sweet that was gluten-free and now I have found it!! If you are looking for something sweet and gooey and yummy, this is a great buy!! Just wanted to share that for those of you who love chocolate and...
  6. My last batch of blood work, after one month of gluten-free was totally normal, and my doc couldn't understand it. He said that there should have been some ttG left in there, but there wasn't. I didn't need him to find something for me to know that gluten-free was the way to be. And he understood that I had been on the diet and was taking it seriously, so...
  7. Wow, what a horrible thing to go through! I am so sorry to hear about your health. I don't know what I can say to help (because I didn't have anything like that) is that I have read that the biopsy and pictures need to be of someone who is eating gluten. So if you DO have celiac and you WANT it to show up on the pictures, you might want to rethink going gluten...
  8. I know that it sucks but you can do it. I started by just limiting myself to the foods that I KNEW were gluten-free like fruits and veggies and meats. If I went out to eat, I had a steak and baked potato. I am a little more forward now and I ask to see the ingredients lists for the salad dressings or cheesecake. But in the first few weeks it is all about...

    ARCHIVED Gerd !

I developed really bad GERD which is what lead me to look for food allergies or intolerences. My doc said that it was something I was eating like tomatoes or spicey foods, but my diet had not changed, and the GERD came out of no where. It was so bad it was like a little vomit coming up and then I would swallow it back down. Mine went a way a lot after going...
  10. Well I have had my thyroid scan and ultrasound this week and now I am just waiting for the results. When the tech was doing the untrasound I felt like I was choaking (sp?). I didn't realize how tender my neck was! Guess my thyroid is enlarged after all. For those who have had to have the treatment for Hashimoto's (sp? again) what was it like? I am worried...
  11. Oh, sorry princess fuzzball, but the angel PMed me and it went to my email box so I have already addressed it to her. I didn't see your reply until I went to "view new posts". Hey, maybe we could pass it around. Ask angel if you can have it after her! Sorry again, Tiffany
  12. Hey all. I am running out of bookshelf space so I am downsizing the collection. I have a copy of "The Gluten-Free Bible" if anyone wants it. It is NOT the ultimate authority that I thought that it would be, but it is a good start if you need something to get started. I am not trying to sell it, just send it to someone. I hate throwing things away, and I don...
  13. Well, its Hollywood theaters, so they aren't a big chain.....and I don't even like it enough to ask the big boys. I just won't eat it. I haven't had any other corn problems. Just this one popcorn, and now that I think about it, only when I have gotten it with butter on it. So I think that it is the butter......
  14. I went to the movies tonight and didn't think twice about getting popcorn with butter, and I have ben so sick all night. Anyone know for sure if this is a no-no, or if it has to do with the manufacturer of this theater's popcorn or butter??? Thanks, Tiffany
  15. Hey Jersey, I didn't even know I had a problem with gluten until I had an Lame Advertisement test done. I had some bad acid reflux, so I contacted an independent lab. The total for my panels (I got several) was 400.00. They show "intolerence" problems. But when mine came back with gluten and gliadin, I started doing some research. I found out about Celiac...

    ARCHIVED Nuvaring

EVERYTHING that I have heard about DEPO is BAD!! I know 3 people right off the top of my head that have gained over 30 pounds and had massive mood swing problems. I would be interested to hear if anyone had anything GOOD to say about it. From what I have learned at school, it is because of the one time giant dose of the hormones that is hard for the body...
  17. I totally hear you. I can gain 6 pounds over night if I have a hamburger. I bloat up. I was a vegetarian for a while and can't believe the weight I gained. I have put on a nother 20 pounds in the last two years. I just went gluten free a couple of months ago, and I still struggle with hidden gluten here and there, but over all I have lost about 10 pounds...
  18. I used to use a lot of name brand stuff and I just wanted to know what was in my stuff after all of the gluten struggles. I switched to a brand called Eminence that is organic and is really really nice. It is pricey, but it is well worth it. My skin feel so much better, and the ingredients list reads like something you could hand a child. No big words that...
  19. That was the first book that I got, thinking that if it were the "bible" then it would be the perfect place to learn! But I have read thing in there that are all wrong and I am overly dissapointed. I would recomend Wheat Free, Worry Free and some others like Dangerous Grains if you like the scientific stuff. I get my best advice from the message board!!!
  20. This is the way my doc explained it. I had a thyroid test in June because I am over weight and have several hypOthyroid symptoms. It was normal then. I went gluten free in December. I had it check at the ob/gyn along with my hormones (going off of the pill) and it was WAY off and looked seriously HYPO. I took that to my primary doc who ordered his own tests...

    ARCHIVED Nuvaring

I have been without hormones (since thanksgiving) and gluten free (since december) and I am still without period. I was told that it could take 6 months or more. Just wanted to warn you......it could be a while.
  22. I just found out that I am having thyorid issues that were being masked by the gluten before. I have two tests scheduled for next month and might have to take radioactive iodine to kill my own thyroid and then take meds for life. My doc and I talked about the possability that the gluten reaction also had a hand in attacking my thyroid, causing hypothyroidism...
  23. I, too, have been able to get off of all meds. I was on Celexa, Ativan, Xanax, Nexium, 800 mg Ibuprofin for headaches, BC pills, just to name the ones I took daily. I am down to NOTHING!!!! LOL It is a cool feeling to be off of everything. I was taking one to counter-act another. I don't recomend just getting off of everything. My doctor walked me through...
  24. I am overweight and always have been. I have noticed that when I get glutened I gain atleast 5 pounds over night. In fact, I got sick from something friday night, and when I got on the scale on sunday, I was 6 pounds heavier!!!!! And it is monday night and I have already lost 2 pounds of that. My weight really goes up and down with the gluten factor. But...
  25. I sent one too....man, that really pisses me off.......
