ARCHIVED Dilation Drops Used For Eye Exam- Are The gluten-free?
tiffjake replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh judy, so sorry to hear about that crummy appointment! To the best of my pharmacy technician knowledge, eye drops must be gluten free. The reason is this: Eye drops must be isotonic solutions. They have to be the same saline/salt ratio as your blood so that they don't burst blood vesels that they come into contact with (by either drawing water out-too much... -
OK, I went to my local olive garden and it was terrible!!!!! There was no menu, and the manager had no idea what I was talking about. He handed me the sheet that talks about the garden fare (or healthier options) and on the front of it is says to "ask a manager about our menu for guests with a gluten intolerence". He was really suprised to see that! He said...

ARCHIVED Whole Foods - Is This Safe?
tiffjake replied to bklyn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would eat it. Sounds good, and looks ok to me. -
I use the recipe from the back of the Chick of the Sea crab pouch, and just sub gluten-free breadcrumbs (I just use a random gluten-free bread, since the texture and flavor wont really matter when you break it up and fry it). I think it is on their site, so it would be www and then chickenofhesea and then .com (I am breaking it up because I think the board...

ARCHIVED I Need Some Advice...
tiffjake replied to Guhlia's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I just wanted to add that I really really really (get it!) think that this is genetic. I didn't even know that it (Celiac) was in my family until I was diagnosed, and then I was talking to my dad about his symptoms, and found out that my paternal grandmother died from complications of non-tropical sprue (another name for celiac disease). I am convinced. I... -
I hear ya! After being diagnosed I talked to my dad and told him to get tested. He said that his brother, my uncle, had been tested YEARS AGO and the doc said "yeah, you have it, but you can eat gluten, as long as you don't feel sick"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So, needless to say, he is SOOOOOO not gluten-free. I hate doctors. I need to put that...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Feel Like Me?
tiffjake replied to JessicaB's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Jessica. My name is Tiffany. I am 23 and also "interviewing for friends" LOL! I have lost many recently. Changing jobs and the way I deal with people has put a cramp in many of my friendships. Here is a brief Celiac history: 1-ALWAYS had IBS or sensitive stomach. No med helped. No doc helped. EVEN AT 10 YEARS OLD I was told to "calm down" and I wouldn... -
I hate that I haven't been on the board in a while and I missed all of this!!! Shirley-I am very sorry for your loss. Peace be with you. Deb-wow. Lynne-double wow. (crying) Everyone-wow again. I love this board. I hate a lot of things. But after reading this, I mostly hate that I don't value myself or my health enough to quit cheating. I...

Thank you soooo much for posting this! My husband loves olive garden, and wanted to go there when he gets home from Iraq. Thanks for letting me know this because I would have never gone there again assuming that I couln't eat anything they had! God Bless You!!! Tiffany

I LOVE that place. I live about 45 min away, so I havent been recently, not since I found out about the celiac disease. I would be very interested in hearing what you find out from them!

ARCHIVED Mary Kay Cosmetics
tiffjake replied to teankerbell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Perhaps they have, I am not sure when you quit selling. If you are still a consultant, you can go to your MK Intouch site and search for "ingredients" in the search box. The online consumer guide to ingredients will be the first search hit. It gives you a list of all products and ingredients. I wasn't trying to be rude, I hope I didn't come off that way.... -
Ditto!

ARCHIVED Mary Kay Cosmetics
tiffjake replied to teankerbell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I need to disagree with you. I sell Mary Kay now. There is wheat in a couple of things, but not much. I believe just seven items. And 2 of those are mascara's that are being phased out. If you guys want I will post a list of the ingredients in a certian product, just let me know which one. I can look it up easily on my consultant website. I was a D-I-Q but... -
ARCHIVED Pernicious Anemia (megaloblastic Anemia) And celiac disease
tiffjake replied to Robix's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was also diagnosed with pernicious anemia. About 6 years ago I was so low on B12 that I was sleeping nearly 14 hours a day and had bad chest pains. After my doc figured it out I was sleeping better and no more chest pains. I was also ALWAYS cold, and lived in sweaters before. No longer. Actually, since going gluten-free I don't have pernicious anemia anymore... -
ARCHIVED What Was You Iga #
tiffjake replied to Moongirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Mine was 30 something..... -
I was severely anemic, but I want to add to the other posts that anemia can be a lack of other things besides iron. I have pernicious anemia, which is a chronicly low B12 level. It has nothing to do with iron. And I can't take it with a pill. It has to be a shot or sublingual tablet. AS SOON AS I WENT GLUTEN FREE my "life long anemia" went away. My doc was...

ARCHIVED How Do You Pronounce "celiac"?
tiffjake replied to erin24's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Cool site! Thanks! -
Thanks for saying something. I read through the whole thread and still didn't want to be honest. The truth is that I cheated today. I feel terrible. I have the worst acid reflux right now, and the stomach pains.....but I am torn when I go out to eat. I went out with a friend and she only wanted to go to this ONE place that she could afford, and there wasn...

ARCHIVED Chewing Gum Speeds Healing
tiffjake replied to Claire's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I heard about it on the news. The doc on the tv show was saying that you are to chew sugar-free gum. And the reason that it works is the manatol, or sorbitol, or aspertame, that will speed the digestive system. This is not a new theory. There are a lot of people who get bad diarrhea when they have too much suger free gum. The artifical sweetners are like... -
Mine went away almost right away. I don't know if that helps you, but maybe hearing different things from different people will give you some insight. I only have it now when I eat gluten. When I do get GERD I kinda throw-up in my mouth, so it was pretty bad. But it has almost completely (sp?) gone away for me.

ARCHIVED Confused
tiffjake replied to Jean-Luc's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Here is a little food for thought. When I got my EnteroLab results (the genes) I looked up the info on their site. There is a "celiac gene" that means (check mark) YOU HAVE CELIAC DISEASE. But there are other genes that mean things like YOU ARE GLUTEN INTOLERENT or YOU ARE GLUTEN SENSITIVE even though we think that all three might be the same things. ACCORDING... -
ARCHIVED How Many Of You Decided You Had Problems Despite Negative Tests?
tiffjake replied to munchkinette's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know that there is a test that they do...um....rectally. The doc will put a gluten containing substance on the lower colol/large intestine/rectal area and wait a little while (20-30 min) and then check for irritation. I have not had this done, but I have read about it. And now, I am having a brain f@rt and can't remember where I heard about it.......maybe... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Alcohol
tiffjake replied to swatson's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So you think that means the regular smirnoff ice is gluten-free too? Hope so, I have been drinking them with no problem....
