ARCHIVED Zyrtec
jnclelland replied to glutengal's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's a typical CYA response. There's no obvious source of gluten in Zyrtec, and I take it regularly with no problems. Jeanne -
ARCHIVED Need Help Finding A Good Soy Free, Gluten Free Lip Balm
jnclelland replied to sylviaann's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's not technically lip balm, but I use pure lanolin for chapped everything, including lips. It's marketed for chapped nipples for breastfeeding mothers (so you have to look for it on the baby aisle), and it works better than anything else I've ever tried. Jeanne -
ARCHIVED So Delicious Coconut Milk?
jnclelland replied to KarenFe's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Do you think the coconut milk would be good for making lattes? Living Harvest just changed their hemp milk recipe from absolutely delicious to not-very-good (WHY, WHY, WHY???), so I'm looking for a new gluten/dairy/soy-free alternative. (The current favorite is Pacific Foods hazelnut milk, but I'm open to other options!) Jeanne -
ARCHIVED Living Harvest Hemp Milk
jnclelland replied to jnclelland's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's definitely different; it seems to me that there's sort of a bitter undertone that wasn't there before, and I don't like it at all. I use the vanilla flavor to make a latte every day, and I definitely noticed the difference even with the coffee added. I'm not at all sure I'll keep buying it - but then I don't know what I'll make my lattes with! I'll... -
ARCHIVED Living Harvest Hemp Milk
jnclelland posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Once again, I'm miffed about a formerly awesome product that has been mucked up. Living Harvest hemp milk has changed their name to "Tempt," changed the packaging - and, of course, changed the recipe! At least they haven't added any new allergens, but it simply doesn't taste as good as it did before, and I'm really disappointed. Anyone else try... -
ARCHIVED Dale's Seasoning
jnclelland replied to abbysmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Mmmmmm - I grew up on Dale's, and a steak just doesn't taste right without it! Too bad it's not soy-free. Jeanne -
I wouldn't use Bactroban unless a doctor told me to, simply because over-use of antibiotics contributes to the development of antibiotic-resistant strains of everything. Bactroban is one of very few things left that work on MRSA, for instance, and it would be VERY bad if a Bactroban-resistant strain of MRSA evolved. (I say this as a 4-time veteran of MRSA...

ARCHIVED Flavored Coffee
jnclelland replied to dilettantesteph's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree - those are really good. My favorite right now is Living Harvest vanilla hemp milk - yummy! Jeanne -
ARCHIVED I Never Thought Travel Would Suck
jnclelland replied to Mother of Jibril's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
It's not as bad as you think; e.g., you can't take salad dressing in a bottle, but you can take a salad that already has dressing on it. (I do this every time I travel, and just did it again three days ago.) I've also packed little containers of hummus with carrots and never been questioned about that; I think hummus is sufficiently non-liquid that you... -
ARCHIVED Message Display Problem
jnclelland replied to jnclelland's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Thanks much! I knew it was something simple like that. Jeanne -
This may or may not be because I just switched to a new web browser, but anyway... When I click on a topic, I'm only seeing the first message, followed by a list of the remaining messages; then I have to click on each individual message to read it. I used to just see all the messages on one page, and I'd like to get back to that as the default behavior...

ARCHIVED They're Discontinuing Clif Nectar Bars!
jnclelland replied to jnclelland's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
After I found out this morning, I went around to 3 different stores and bought out their stock of the flavors I like, so I think I have about a 6-month supply now! But I'll still be really sad when they run out; Larabars are okay, but I definitely like the Clif nectar bars better. (Especially the chocolate ones!) Jeanne -
ARCHIVED They're Discontinuing Clif Nectar Bars!
jnclelland posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
After an email conversation with the folks at Clif about the disappearance of my favorite flavor of Clif nectar bars (Dark Chocolate Raspberry) from local stores, I was told that they are, in fact, discontinuing ALL flavors of Clif nectar bars due to low sales. AAAAAAGGHHHHH! I've told them how unhappy I am about this, and if anyone else wants to give them... -
ARCHIVED Compulsive Eaters Anonymous
jnclelland replied to K-so's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Is brown rice allowed on the CEA plan? That's my primary grain these days. Quinoa is great, too, and very versatile. I also eat sweet potatoes for carbs when I want a bit more variety. It's wonderful that you've found so much recovery through CEA - I'll just reiterate the suggestion that if you do end up finding the CEA food plan to be incompatible... -
ARCHIVED Rash On My Finger
jnclelland replied to caek-is-a-lie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I get a rash exactly like that on the fingers of my right hand a few days after I eat any of my allergic foods (gluten, dairy, or soy). It's definitely worst with gluten, and I had it for years before I finally figured out what was causing it. I've always thought it was really strange that it was just on one hand, but I've heard several other people on... -
ARCHIVED Rice Milk/hemp Milk
jnclelland replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can't speak to its safety for you allergy-wise, but Living Harvest's vanilla hemp milk is really delicious. I use it to make lattes, and I like it better than rice milk - and even regular milk, for that matter! Jeanne -
ARCHIVED Anyone Gluten, Soy And Casein Free?
jnclelland replied to gfwarrior's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Yup, that's me - itchy rash on my hands whenever I eat soy or dairy. It can take 36 hours or so to show up, so no wonder it took me so long to figure out what caused it! It is hard having to avoid the lecithin, but it's sooooo worth it not to itch and have cracked skin all over my fingers all the time. Enjoy Life is a wonderful brand! I also get... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Gluten, Soy And Casein Free?
jnclelland replied to gfwarrior's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Just to be the stick in the mud, I'm one who CAN'T tolerate soy lecithin - it gives me a rash every time I try it. But Pacific brand almond and hazelnut milks don't contain soy lecithin, so that's one option. (Read labels carefully: the Pacific almond milk contained soy lecithin for awhile, but I just picked up a box and read the ingredients today, and... -
Great - thanks so much for your help! I'm in the airport now waiting on my flight to Newark; hopefully the conference will be good and I'll find food to eat! The Portugese places in Ironbound sound really interesting. Jeanne

Wow - thanks for all the info! I'm staying at the Robert Treat hotel, at 50 Park Place. It's just east of the Rutgers-Newark campus. Jeanne

I'm going to a conference at Rutgers-Newark this week, staying in a hotel downtown. I won't have a car, unfortunately. Can anyone recommend restaurants and/or grocery stores within walking distance of campus, or easily reachable by public transit? Thanks! Jeanne

ARCHIVED gluten-free, Yeast Free, Dairy Free Soy Free Bread?
jnclelland replied to cam'smom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Check out the bread mixes at www.glutenevolution.com. There's a yeast-free one (also free of everything else you mention), and it's fabulous; I make toast with it every day! (My non-gluten-free 5-year-old daughter even asks for bites, so I know I'm not just kidding myself that it's good!) Jeanne -
ARCHIVED Almond Milk Users
jnclelland replied to missy'smom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have found that Pacific nut milks keep for much longer than the 7 days or whatever that it says on the box. (Their chicken broth says the same thing, so I think they just put that time frame on all their stuff.) If you'll finish the box in two weeks (you said half a box a week, right?), it's probably fine to just leave it in the fridge. Jeanne -
ARCHIVED Restaurants In Princeton, Nj Area?
jnclelland replied to jnclelland's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Thanks very much! I'll only be there for three nights, so that should be plenty to keep me fed. Jeanne
