TinkerbellSwt replied to chocolatelover's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I simply say to waiters and people who dont me too well, I get violently ill. I can end up in the ER. That has always been enough for me. When it gets too bad, I actually do go to the ER to help me with the pain of getting thru it. I havent had to do that in a while now, Keep my fingers crossed!! -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Ever Been Glutened But Had No Idea How?
TinkerbellSwt replied to angel42's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It has happened to me a few times. I have to say one of the better places always was for me Whole Foods, but you cant be totally sure of no cross contaimination there. They do list all ingredients and hide no wheat or any type of gluten, but you cant trust people. I would go to bringing my own lunch for a while and see if you feel better. If not, could... -

TinkerbellSwt posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
As you can tell by the title my baby started daycare today. He is only going once a week to start. Its actually a babysitter not a daycare. He kissed me goodbye and went to play with the other kids. He isnt really a baby per say anymore. He is 1 1/2. But he is growing up, who said he was allowed to do that/??? waaaahhhhhh, I hope it gets easier. I... -

ARCHIVED Nutritionist From Hospital
TinkerbellSwt replied to TinkerbellSwt's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am going to write her (the nutrionist) at the hospital a very friendly letter. Thanking her for the information, there are a few places in the back that I never knew had gluten free stuff, and tell her in a very nice way the mistakes that are in the pamphlet. I hope they listen and hope they learn from it. -
Thanks for all the positive support. You know who you are. I dont have pity parties, in fact the reason why this all is such a blow, is that it never happened before. Carla, you are right about the email thing, I did that even before I read the thread again. We are talking. I explained my worries and such to her. I said I will be my own advocate. ...

Yeah, thats it. Its not so much about the food. They always make something I can have, just usually they cross contaiminate it. On the superbowl, everything was kept away that wasnt gluten free and there really wasnt much... but while I was in the kitchen feeding my son, my sister in law made her girls uncrustables sandwiches and had them eat them at the...

I thought all along my family was so understanding with this disease and such. I found out today, b/c of another issue with my mother, that people are tired of dealing with my celiac. That I make them uncomfortable. That they should be able to eat what they want at their own houses. Which I agreed to. but I have been asking lately what foods will be...

TinkerbellSwt replied to ptkds's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had actually the same thing happen. I was buying Goodmans potato starch in the regular Kosher section of my supermarket. Then I went to an Asian market and was in heaven, as some of you know the price differences can make you cry! Well yesterday I was making lorkas bread, and finished off my canister of Goodmans potato starch. So I went to my closet... -
ARCHIVED Nutritionist From Hospital

Yes, what I meant with the gain weight, no an allergy specifically does not cause us to gain weight. Of course not. I just mean, myself particularly, since going gluten free and my system healing, I am actually gaining weight b/c now my body is actually absorbing foods, before the diet, I was losing weight in abundance!! It was unreal. Once I started... -

Finally... we tried the Bonefish Grill that just moved into our town a few months ago. Wow, it was great. ARCHIVED Glutened? Does It Happen This Fast After Eating?
TinkerbellSwt replied to Threebrainedbeing's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If I eat something with direct wheat in it as in a sauce, I will know almost right away, the grumbling tummy starts, a CC issue, usually within 20 minutes. If its a minor glutening, I just have to get it out of my system, usually with a nice long visit to the bathroom, once its out I am ok. If I have a major glutening, the first happens, the visit, then... -

ARCHIVED American Idol Fans?
TinkerbellSwt replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I agree, it has to do with the Vote for the Worst website. They are keeping Sanjaya and Antonella b/c of it. Nick wasnt the greatest, he wouldnt have made it all the way, but keeping Sanjaya?? That is just crazy!! I hope the vote for the worsts get outnumbered soon.. it takes a bit, but eventually they do, unfortunatly some get sent home that shouldnt... -
My father in law is a pharmacist at a hospital here in NJ. He ended up talking with one of the nutritionists at the hospital for one reason or another and my celiac disease came up. So she went and got him the pamphlet they hand to all newly diagnosed celiacs. ummmmmm... Im confuzzled. The guide says to avoid foods that contain: wheat, rye, oats, barley...

ARCHIVED Cheese?
TinkerbellSwt posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone have a reaction to just cheese? not dairy, just cheese? I seem to get a bellyache after I eat cheese, no matter what kind. I thought ok, its a dairy issue, but then goat cheese bothered me too, and that isnt considered dairy in allergen terms. Could it be just too rich for me? or am I just deluding myself and its a dairy allergy? -

TinkerbellSwt replied to hangininthere's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
This recipe is very similiar to Carol Fensters pizza crust. It works well. It gets really puffy during the original crust bake, I just pat it back down to get the toppings on! its yummy! -
My son is 21 months and lives a gluten free life. We did listen to the docs and started with cereal in his bottle. My son was also severly premature and they wanted him to gain weight as soon as possible. I know they say no cereal in bottles, but we were told to, and like first mothers I am sure, I listened. The rice cereal didnt bother him. We just...
