ARCHIVED Exchange Student
StrongerToday replied to norexchange's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I know a woman in my town who is hosting a gluten-free exchange student through Youth For Understanding. Apparently the student was supposed to go to another family, but they got worried about being gluten-free and cancelled at the last minute. YFU contacted our local celiac disease group and it all worked out great!! -

ARCHIVED Where Do You Shop?
StrongerToday replied to FeedIndy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Your user name caught my eye - our cat is named Indy, so you'll hear a lot of "go feed Indy" in our house Anyway... I shop regularly at Trader Joe's, I eat a lot of cashew and almond butter and it is literally half the price as found in any other store. They also carry Sharon's sorbet - the lemon is fantastic!! Definitely go check it out. -
ARCHIVED Any Others In Michigan?
StrongerToday replied to a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Whole Foods has some good stuff (love the pizza crust and sandwhich bread) but you might also want to go to Hillers (in Arborland). They carry a lot of Celiac Specalties items and some other major brands too. -

ARCHIVED I Got The Fed Ex Job...i'm So Nervouse About My Tummy Now!
StrongerToday replied to IrishKelly's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Congrats!! You'll do fine, think positive! Also, come up with "plans of action"... for instanace, I wear a pager and when I suddenly have to use the restroom, I'll act like I"m being paged and say "excuse me, that's my daughters school... I need to call right away". (Of course, this only works if you have a kid ) but you could come up with other responses... -

ARCHIVED Wedding Gift Ideas For Brother And Fiancee
StrongerToday replied to NicoleAJ's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I've done two special gifts for people. I'm a scrapbooker, so I've made a couple of scrapbooks for different people. One album I just did the pages, they could put in their own photos later. One time I made an album, took pictures and ran down to the 1 hour photo to get them developed. I slapped them in the book, wrapped it and they had an instant memento... -
ARCHIVED Lexapro - Anyone Had Problems With It?
StrongerToday replied to emcmaster's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My dr. started me on Paxil and I had horrible reactions. He switched me Lexapro (half a pill/day for a week, then up to 10 mg) and I did, and am continuing, to do great! But if you really can't tolerate it, please call your dr. -

ARCHIVED Help! Can' Keep Any Food In Me For 5 Days
StrongerToday replied to Anne AMP's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Anne, can you make an appointment with your doctor? When I was very ill and could keep nothing in, my doctor put me on a clear liquids only diet for 48 hours to get my GI tract to settle down. Then I moved up to soups, etc. I can't beleive boiled meat would be good for your tummy right now! Better to stay with liquids to keep you hydrated. Feel better... -
ARCHIVED What Does "getting Sick" Mean
StrongerToday replied to Stephanie R's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hello and Welcome! I think it's safe to assume that you either "got into something" or perhaps got a flu bug. Getting "sick" varies for each of us... usually D or C, stomach aches, joint/body aches, brain fog. You'll want to make sure your lotions, shampoos, make up and everything else you go near is gluten-free. If you live with people, CC can be hard... -
ARCHIVED Why Is This So Hard?
StrongerToday replied to rkmonckton11's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It gets better, I promise!! Start by making your diet as simple as possible - roasted meats, potatoes and veggies/fruit. I always make extra for lunches and have bought some seperated Tupperware dishes so I can make my own frozen dinners. Keep good snacks on hand (apple, bannana, nuts or Lara bars) so you're not suddenly starving. You do need to start... -
ARCHIVED Chicken Smell?
StrongerToday replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips

ARCHIVED Do You Have Stomach Pain Because Of Gluten?
StrongerToday replied to ebrbetty's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
YES! I had horrible stomach pains. If someone would have told me I'd swallowed glass, I would have beleived them - it was that painful!! My bloodtests came back "fine", but my doc says if I feel better not eating something, it's pretty simple... don't eat it! -
ARCHIVED Quick Dinners For Family With Numerous Allergies And Celiac Disease?

ARCHIVED Tests For Food Allergies/intolerances?
StrongerToday replied to eleep's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I shelled out big bucks for food testing. My nutrionist urged me to do an elimination diet rather then spend the money on the tests (igg and iga - not scratch testing) saying they really weren't very helpful. Guess what - she was right! Mine didn't even come up positive for wheat/gluten, but it does say I should avoid Lima beans... darn... I'd vote... -
