  1. My parents have offered to take me (and my daughter) to Cancun in November for a family wedding. They are not sure of the resort/hotel we'd be staying at yet, so I can't call ahead and ask all those fun questions. But, assuming they pick the hotel and I can call and be assured... how can I pass this up? Would you go? What questions should I ask the...
  2. Wow, why is that? Wheat is not listed as an ingredient. I compared it to the other kind I bought and the only difference is "invert sugar and brown sugar". Ok, I don't know what invert sugar is, but it doesn't sound like wheat. I emailed the company and will put them aside - for now. Much to tasty to throw out without at least getting confirmation. ...
  3. In the passover display in my grocery store, I found Manischewitz macaroons. They had lots of varietys - but be careful, some do have wheat in them. It is clearly listed in bold print. I bought the Toffee Crunch and oh, my... so yummy! They have lots of flavors, and here's a link which lists their wheat free products. Open Original Shared Link
  4. One of the first things my dr. did on my gluten-free journey was to rid my body of candida overgrowth. He put me on Diflucan, 1 pill every other day for two weeks. He gave me some info by Dr. Crook and I found Dr. Crook's book at the library - here is his site: Open Original Shared Link You can google it, there's tons of info including Open Original...
  5. I keep one and have found it very helpful. I keep mine on Excel in a simple spreadsheet formula. (I'd be happy to send it to you if you PM me your email). Basically it runs by day with a column for bkfst, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack, "results" (I keep track of any symptoms I may have), exercise and a misc. column to track weight, stress, other...
  6. I do all on-line banking as well (love it!). But if I do have to send something I'll use a glue stick, if I'm in a pinch and there isn't one I will lick my finger and rub that along the envelope.
  7. I had the stomach flu over the holidays. I guess a way for me to tell the difference is that when I'm glutened I'm usually able to function even if I don't want to. When I had the flu I couldn't hardly get off the couch for two days. It was a very noticeable difference for me. I usually don't take naps, but when I had the flu I slept all the time - I...
  8. I did a wheat test a while back (never realized how tasty wheat thins were!) and it wasn't until my 3rd day that I started to feel it and then *wham* did it hit! Berneses - I have to agree with you! Giving up dairy (CHEESE) is so much harder. There are so many gluten-free alternatives out there... but nothing replaces good old dairy products. I miss...
  9. I just smiley sweetly and say "I used to think that, but look at me now!" (Keep in mind i've now lost 54 lbs!)
  10. So I've noticed the last 3 Saturdays I've had "d" at night (each Sat. night is worse then the last) and all 3 Saturday's I've had Smiley Fries either at lunch or dinner. If I had Smiley fries for dinner, would big "D" hit an hour later? Is it something I had earlier today, or even yesterday? How fast -or slow- do things move through you? How do you...
  11. Wheat Thins (yum!)
  12. Bummer!!! Can't beleive you have to do that all over, but if it helps in the long run... My friend had to have a similar procedure done and was given a gallon of "Go Lightly" to drink the night before the procedure. Apparently the product is not well named as "Go Lightly" is apparently an oxymoron
  13. This forum has helped me so much more then my dr., therapist, nutritionist... there is so much to be learned from others that have been through this. I mean, who else could I talk to about how many days in row that I've been having solid poops (and who else would care?!?) And I agree - it is sad. Food is so much more then just food. It does help...
  14. I buy Jiff and Trader Joe's nut butter (cashew and almond), all are safe and I eat them everyday
  15. Wasn't there recently a post about wheat being in charcoal??? You may want to look for that. And personally, if I take Aleve for may then two days in a row I get D. Do you feel glutened or just the D?
  16. How about something cheesy - like cream cheese, or mozzerella... something gluten-free, casein free, lactose free and soy free?
  17. It took your body a long time to get this sick, it's going to take time to get healthy. Right now your poor body is going through a lot. YOu might want to consider giving up dairy, especially at the beginning. Just keep your diet simple for now.
  18. While mine will hit at work - and I usually can just pop into the ladies room - I always get the worse gas while I'm shopping! I don't know why. The excitement of new, smaller size clothes? The smell of new shoes? I find myself walking around a rack that no one is near, and always feel bad if someone happens to walk into the area I've just departed
  19. Good luck with the tapering. How long will it take? I've heard of others getting the liquid form of the medicine as it's easier to control the doses. I know we've talked about this subject before - the real depression and anxiety came for me about four months into the gluten-free diet. Looking back I've always been a little anxious and have battled insominia...
  20. This time last year, I was so sick and miserable - and I hardly knew how bad I really was. It took me through the summer of being constantly sick to go see my dr. When he told me to cut out wheat and diary for six weeks I was all "what???". By the end of the six weeks I was stunned at how good I felt. I literally can remember driving to work, all singing...
  21. I definitely feel much better. No, not all days are great - but no one has completely perfect days! I also think that now I tend to over-analyze every little thing which doesn't help. But I can look back at this time last year and remember how awful I felt, and I even have a couple pictures that I've saved to remind me too.
  22. I found Puffins near me, but they had oat flour in them?!? Carrie - if you're going to have gluten before the tests - have a piece of pizza for me please!
  23. If you have a juicer you can freeze bananas, then "juice" them - comes out just like DQ soft serve
  24. The only other thing that I seem to have around the same time is a fruit smoothie (strawberry and bannana) made with almond milk. Last time at the store the Pacific Vanilla flavor was on sale, usually I use Blue Diamond plain almond milk. Hmmm.... I hate that the only way to test a food is to eat it and make plans to be near a bathroom
  25. I gave up both gluten and dairy in August. I am a cheese addict!! (Literally, at age 3 my mother would find me biting into blocks of cheese - wrappers and all!). There are a lot more gluten-free choices for me if I can have dairy. I tried goats cheese last weekend and had some D, but then I had more D this weekend... so now I'm back to dazed and confused...
