Has anyone ever attempted making bagel chips? If yes, recipes would be appreciated.

For those of you with non-Celiac children and Celiac parents... What do you do when your child brings home an art project that contains gluten? I was emptying my daughter's school bag yesterday and reached right into a lovely macaroni picture. It totally freaked me out because I literally haven't touched gluten in over 2 years. It made my skin crawl. I put...

ARCHIVED Just Had A Newborn Baby
Guhlia replied to Annaem's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Welcome and congratulations! We also just a had a baby 2.5 weeks ago. We are planning on waiting to introduce gluten until 1 year old. That way most of her systems have a chance to develop properly for a year without any negative intervention from gluten. Similac is gluten free, so no need to worry about that. Just out of curiosity, why are they giving him... -

Any updates, Amanda? -
Wow, really?!?!?! I knew he was lucky to be alive, but I didn't know quite how lucky he was. Also, the injuries aren't as bad as initially thought, so things are really looking up for him. He will definitely walk again which is way cool considering how he landed.

Is this bread like a traditional sandwich bread, like wonder sponge? Texture? Flavor? Also, does it need to be toasted the next day?

ARCHIVED Angie's Baby Is Born!
Guhlia replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It looks as though it wasn't brocolli. I totally forgot what I was doing and ate brocolli again and it had no effect on her. It must've been something else I ate. She's doing much better now. I'm so glad I don't have to give up my brocolli. I haven't been drinking milk at all and my casein intake is very limited as well. I've thought there's a possibility... -
Paula, that's horrible. We will keep your husband, his brother, and your entire family in our prayers.

Guhlia replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Oh no, Amanda, that's horrible! I'm sure everything will be okay, but its always so scary when a new baby is sick, especially when they're THAT sick. Hang in there and I'm sure time will work its magic and she'll be back to normal in no time. I'm glad they got her to the hospital right away. I'm sure she's in good hands. -
ARCHIVED Not Sure What Is Going On! Ugh!
Guhlia replied to Nikki'smom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm not sure I would do anything at this point until you've tried using the lactaid regularly again. If that doesn't work, I would start on a food journal immediately to see if you can track any foods that may be bothering her. It may be another food intolerance or it may just be that gluten is sneaking in somewhere. Its really hard to tell without a food... -
ARCHIVED Jenny Mccarthy Segment On 20/20
Guhlia replied to VioletBlue's topic in Publications & Publicity
What an inspiring article! I only remember Jenny McCarthy in a negative light as being a beautiful, ditzy blonde. I now have a whole new respect for her, both as a person and as a mother. I wish I could have seen the TV segment. -

I eat it and LOVE it!!! -
Thanks for the male perspective, Josh. An update, Keith received the snack basket and called us immediately to thank us. He said that it was a "man's" basket and he really appreciated the change from the flowers that he's been receiving.

Believe it or not she is SOUND asleep in the new avatar. She sleeps with her eyes open a lot of the time. It's so cute. -
ARCHIVED Angie's Baby Is Born!

I've been using Mylicon drops, but its not really giving her any relief. I had brocolli 3 days ago. I thought that's what started this whole thing, but I didn't think things stayed in breast milk for that long. I'm hoping today is a better day for her because she's had a really rough past two days. At least she's sleeping well though. -
Glad everything's going so well for you, Stef. I'm also glad that you've learned to trust your instincts. Nursing 8-10 minutes may be what's generally accepted, but we all know that averages aren't right for everyone. Annie prefers nursing for about 15 minutes per feeding and only on one breast per feeding. For us that's what works. Do you have a sling...

ARCHIVED Angie's Baby Is Born!
Guhlia replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
She's actually been refusing (or forgetting about) the snacks at school. She only had gluten once, some animal crackers. This was on her second day of school. Since then she's told me every day that she hasn't had a snack at school or she's told me that she had a snack out of her lunch bag. I imagine it will take her a while to feel "safe" eating gluten since... -
ARCHIVED Where Do I Start?
Guhlia replied to Jenybeen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I just wanted to add a note on the popsicles... We do the same thing here because my daughter is very picky and won't eat most fruits and veggies. We add carrots to the popsicles and they just blend right in with the other flavors. You can't taste them at all. Beets are also easy to add in without adding flavor. Mild and/or sweet veggies are best for mixing... -
ARCHIVED Angie's Baby Is Born!
Guhlia replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thanks, guys! We're both doing very well. Annika slept through the night for the first time last night!!! She slept from 11:30 until 5:30!!! :) I am still in awe. I can't believe I actually got to sleep through the night with a newborn. I even got to go back to bed for a short time and lay there before Tori got up to go to school! I hope the rest of today... -
Stef, haven't heard anything from you in a while. I know you're really busy, but I was hoping to hear how you and Lukas are doing...

ARCHIVED Celiac Awareness Bracelets
Guhlia replied to Dandelion's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It looks like this website allows you to create custom silicone wristbands with no minimum order quantity. I didn't look at prices or set up fees or anything, but I thought it could be kind of cool. Open Original Shared Link They have a green swirl color that is much better than the solid green ones that are for sale elsewhere. The only thing that stinks... -
ARCHIVED 4542 Gluten Free Recipes
Guhlia replied to adiftime's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
For cheesy chicken nuggets we use bread crumbs (I just toast and crumble some Kinnikinnick bread and add italian seasoning to it. Then add Kraft orange cheese powder. Its really very good and has the same texture as store bought chicken nuggets. This is also great without the cheese powder. -

ARCHIVED Buying Your Child's Favorite gluten-free Food Bulk?
Guhlia replied to dandelionmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When I buy in bulk I try to pick items that can be used in several ways. Cookies can also be used as pie crusts (and who gets sick of cookies anyway?), crackers are versatile and easily used as a bread crumb substitute in most recipes, same with unsweetened cereal. I would steer clear of buying things like bars in bulk as its easy to tire of one flavor of... -
