ARCHIVED Gluten Free Pantry
Guhlia replied to angel-jd1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey, Tom, if you buy Tinkyada you can get that online at amazon .com for a reduced price. You have to buy it by the case, but it's much cheaper than in stores. I have amazon prime so I get everything shipped to me for free. -

ARCHIVED Should I Be Ashamed Or Excited?
Guhlia replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Amanda, don't feel bad. I have two wedding dresses. The first was a victorian style dress that I decided would be too hot to wear in June. The second was a prom dress that I bought two weeks before the wedding, just when all the prom stuff went on clearance. You need to wear whatever you like. This wedding will last a lifetime in memories and it's only fair... -
ARCHIVED Popcorn
Guhlia replied to Hanna GF LF cheerleader's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There are some popcorns (drizzle on types) that aren't gluten free. I can't remember which brand. I just remember that the stuff you're supposed to drizzle on it isn't gluten free. -
ARCHIVED After You Stopped Smoking Did You Get Worse?
Guhlia replied to terps19's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Actually, I was only supposed to not quit cold turkey because I was pregnant. The stress of quitting smoking can actually harm the baby as much or more than the smoking would. Yes, my symptoms are 100% controlled through diet. However, I have to admit, until I got 100% anal about everything staying gluten free I was getting glutened quite frequently. -
ARCHIVED After You Stopped Smoking Did You Get Worse?
Guhlia replied to terps19's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
1. Do you smoke and have you quit? If so how much did you smoke? I don't smoke. I quit about 4 years ago. I smoked about a pack and a half a day depending on the day. 2. Did you quit before or after you went on a gluten-free diet? If you quit after, how long were you on the diet before you quit? I quit before I went gluten free, I was pregnant and not... -
ARCHIVED Bubble Solution
Guhlia replied to Esther Sparhawk's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What brand did you discover to have gluten in it? Just so all of us know not to buy this brand. -
ARCHIVED Grinder That Was Used To Grind Wheat
Guhlia replied to cruelshoes's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to clean it well enough to be safe. However, you could list it on eBay and then put that money into getting a new one. -
ARCHIVED So What's In Your 72-hour Kit?
Guhlia replied to cruelshoes's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've certainly never needed a 72 hour kit, but I would think Hormel chili would be great for that. It would probably be decent room temperature with some velveeta cheese (also shelf stable) in it. I don't know what the shelf life is on velveeta, but I know it's grossly long. Amy's and Progresso have some gluten free soups. Glutino pretzels and jif peanut... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free At Walmart
Guhlia replied to tabdegner's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I found the GFP mixes in the pasta aisle...???? I know, doesn't make any sense. They were with the Cheese Whiz. Doesn't make any sense, does it? There was nothing else gluten free around either. I recognized the green and white design on the box. They aren't in the typical packaging, but angeljd1 has the box as her avatar I believe so you check out what they... -

ARCHIVED New To All Of This...
Guhlia replied to SafeSpuds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Lactose is processed on the ends of the villi. The villi are what is damaged by Celiac Disease. Many Celiacs are lactose intolerant until they have reached a certain level of healing. I would say to go ahead and eliminate lactose for the time being and reintroduce it in a few months. You also may be witnessing a slight gluten withdrawal. Keep her on the diet... -
They actually have those buns throughout all of the major Disney parks in FL. I think they may even have them at the smaller parks too. I had one at Magic Kingdom, though I have to admit I hated it. My daughter had one at Animal Kingdom too. She seemed to like it. If you ever go to MGM, go to the 50's cafe and get the fried chicken. It tastes exactly like...

ARCHIVED I Just Want To Not Have To Cook Once Damnit!
Guhlia replied to snowcoveredheart's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just make a loaf of bread, most gluten free breads will do. Then I dry the croutons in the oven on warm until they are dry and crunchy, no signs of moisture left. I add (all to taste) a small amount of olive oil, garlic powder, fresh cracked black pepper, parmesean cheese, and dried cilantro. Shake in a plastic baggie until well coated. If you use too much... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Food At Restaurants
Guhlia replied to Franceen's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I contacted TGI Fridays about a year ago and they told me to NOT eat at their restaurants because they couldn't accomodate a gluten free diet. Ugh... Applebee's said pretty much the same thing except they weren't quite as polite. Ruby Tuesday was more polite and tried to be accomodating, but eventually ended up admitting there wasn't much they could do for... -
ARCHIVED Healing
Guhlia replied to sherrid's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just out of curiousity... Why only wheat free? Why not completely gluten free? Are you doing an elimination diet due to negative test results? -
I personally can't stand the Chebe stuff. I've never tried the frozen ones.

ARCHIVED Turning 40 (ugh!) - Want Cake!
Guhlia replied to teamworkjr's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Open Original Shared Link This is the best gluten free cake I've ever had. To make it a white cake sub egg whites (I think you have to double the amount, maybe someone else will know better) and use clear vanilla extract. It's a very moist cake that doesn't fall apart. It's not very sweet, so if you're not using heavily sweetened frosting, you may want... -
ARCHIVED I Just Want To Not Have To Cook Once Damnit!
Guhlia replied to snowcoveredheart's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
On occasions like this I like to have premade pizzas in the freezer that I can just thaw and reheat. I don't know if you're casein free, but if not, that could be a good solution. Also, salads are easy to prep, you can buy canned chicken to put on top to make it a "meal". I also make some KILLER croutons that freeze very well. Amy's meals are okay. They have... -

ARCHIVED When Does It Stop!?
Guhlia replied to snowcoveredheart's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
For me gluten withdrawal consisted of horrible migraines, nausea, sweating, horrible mood swings, and intense gluten cravings. It's different for every person though. -
Just a quick note about Chil-fil-A. Make sure that their fryer is dedicated to just doing fries. We ran into a Chick-fil-A in Exton that did NOT have dedicated fryers. I think they're all supposed to, but they don't. Either that or the guy behind the counter just didn't understand my question either way I asked it. That wouldn't surprise me either. Also...

ARCHIVED Daughter In Cheerleading Camp
Guhlia replied to little d's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Donna, if she chose to go to the cheerleading camp, I would force her to follow through. However, it sounds as though she may indeed be suffering from Celiac. Celiac Disease can cause fatigue, sore muscles, etc. as a result of malnutrition. I know when I was younger I couldn't handle much physical activity at all. I now know it was due to years and years...
