  1. Yesterday I found a new health food store about 60 miles from me (in Tupelo, MS). I saw Vance's Darifree on the shelf....I'd never seen this at Wild Oats where I usually shop. Anyway, because I've heard Vincent talk so much about it, I decided to look beyond the price and give it a go. THANK YOU, VINCENT!!! Finally, I think I have a milk substitute...
  2. I have a palm-based Treo 650, and I do keep my Clan Thompson's SmartList on it. I'm also working on a .pdf restaurant list for when I travel. I don't know the cost; it's my work phone.
  3. Your post caught my eye. Two days? How long would you feel safe eating it? I think really, I don't eat it after 5. 7 seems long for no preservatives. Thoughts Nini, or other?
  4. THANK YOU, EVERYONE!!! I cannot imagine where I would have been these last few mos. Still glutening myself regularly, no doubt. Either that or choking down the yucky foods. This board recommends great brands....Kinnikinnick, Pamela's, Enjoy Life, EnviroKidz.... This board offers delicious recipes.....Nini's chicken, and so many, many more......
  5. I can answer that for you in my area. I buy the package meats and $11/lb sounds about right. I'm paying $5-$6 for 7 oz of Applegate pre-pkgd deli meat. I justify it because: 1- I always feel fine after I eat Applegate's meats; 2-I don't eat a sandwich every day (although once opened I do try to consume the pkg in 5-7 days since no preservatives are used...
  6. You've got a friend..... My gall bladder has to go, too. I've been referred to a surgeon who I'll see Mon. @ 3:00 I'm sorry about the fertility problems. As the others have said, try not to despair too much. It must be difficult, but modern medicine and prayer can do wonders.
  7. Thank you....think you just provided a breakfast for this wknd. Pizza and cin rolls success all in one week
  8. Have you had the cocoa ones before? I've never been able to eat the cocoa ones, but the banana and vanilla don't cause me problems unless I'm in one of those states where just about everything I eat hurts. I haven't tried to narrow down the Nana's cocoa cookie problem for me. It's easier to avoid them and enjoy the others. I'm a Nana's fan.
  9. The directions recommend 2 12" crusts. I did that, and the crust easily could have been thinner still...so bigger pizza. It really was a lot of pizza. Hmmm, how much oil? Seems like maybe a 1/4 cup. I'll post later if this is not right. Also, keep your fingers oiled while you work the crust. It is pretty sticky, but kept dipping my fingers in oil...
  10. I had read somewhere that Kale is very healing for the intestine. Even early in my diagnosis I ate a lot of it. Unlike some green veggies that are hard to digest, kale really does make my gut feel better. I saute it in a little olive oil, and sometimes mix it with Lundgren Family Farms brown riceor Bob's Creamy Hot Rice Ceral. Sounds a little crazy...
  11. Yeah, I smiled when I re-read the ingredients to myself and saw that it would meet your needs. You're in for a pleasant surprise....it even rises like real pizza dough, but not too bread-y. I buy it at Wild Oats, but I'm sure you can find it where ever you find your gluten-free items. You could order it online from Gluten Solutions Open Original Shared...
  12. I don't want to automatically place my diagnosis on others, but just a thought.... gall bladder problems can cause insomnia, anxiety, chest pain, and would certainly cause the pain he's having after he eats. My GI says that Celiacs have a much higher risk of a malfunctioing (sluggish) gall bladder. Just do a search for gall bladder and check out the...
  13. Have just said a prayer for you. Good luck with the mri results.
  14. Good question....The short answer is NO Here's the ingredient list straight from bag of mix: sorghum flour, tapioca flour, sweet rice flour, brown rice flour, organic natural evaporated cane sugar, chicory root, white rice flour, millet flour, honey & molasses, rice bran, sea salt, xantham gum To prepare the pizza crust you only add: oil...
  15. Just thought I'd pass along what I discovered this evening! Tonight we tried the pizza crust recipe on the side of Pamela's Amazing Wheat-Free bread mix. Yummy! I've tried various rice crusts and Kinnikinnick frozen crust and have liked them; however, none of them satisfied that Pizza Hut/Domino's pizza craving. This crust by Pamela's was easy to make...
  16. Or just buy some of Bob's Red Mill Vital Wheat Gluten....the pkg that's crammed up against our gluten-free stuff in some stores. Sprinkle liberally on any of your gluten-free, df, foods and voila! Good luck. I cringe thinking about it, but understand why you need to know.
  17. Good advice. Thank you all for listening and for the practical advice/support. I'll check Monday about a 2nd opinion somewhere. I suspect my insurance will take the surgeon as a 2nd opinion, but I'll find a non-surgeon GI for a 2nd opinion. My GI (who isn't a celiac specialist but in whom I do have confidence) is the one who diagnosed my Celiac in Dec...
  18. That's good advice, cause I'm really, really bummed. I am anxious to feel better, but I've had to have several surgeries in the last few years and not looking forward to another one. Plus, I wonder what life is like without a gall bladder. I believe body parts have purposes. Of course, I guess if it's not doing anything at all....then.... Ok, so how...
  19. I had the gallbladder emptying scan yesterday and the stomach emptying scan today. My GI's nurse called this evening and said they don't have the results of today's test yet, but my gall bladder is not functioning at all. Nada. Zip. She said I'll be referred to a surgeon to have it removed. She said that when it's not functioning at all, there's really...

    ARCHIVED I Am Really Optimistic!

I have said a prayer and continue. What a glorious day it would be to have that diagnosis confirmed and ultimately fixed.

    ARCHIVED "house" Episode?

that's WONDERFUL! Marked the calendar, set an alarm in the pda, woo hoo!!!!
  22. Nessa, I'm sure you've already discovered that this is a very supportive board. Any time you're feeling frustrated or sad, and any time you want to celebrate a success in this board you're surrounded by people who understand. Like Ursula, I had been so very sick for so long, that I wasn't sad about what I couldn't eat, I was joyous that I was going to...
  23. Rice cheese substitutes??? This is the first I'm even hearing of them. What are some names? Where can I buy them? I can't do soy cheese, (soy and dairy are the 2 intolerances I seem to have in addition to Celiac). Sure, I'm willing to try aged cheese. I won't "test" gluten, but I'll test dairy. This may be a silly question, but how do I know if...
  24. I could easily sleep 12-14 hrs before diagnosis and gluten-free. The hours I was awake, I wasn't awake. Once I went gluten-free, my sleep habits and alertness improved pretty rapidly. I may have slept more for a few weeks, (someone said, "healing mode;" that was exactly what I felt like). I know that my digestive system is still healing; I'm still having...
  25. Oh, yes! Chick Fil A has been a safe place for me. We don't have one hear, so have only done it 3-4 times, but haven't been glutened. Just an observation, ChelsE, CFA has a grilled chicken breast/patty as an entree. I've always mention bunless, and they always smile and tell me I don't have to worry that if I order the grilled chicken (whatever) entree...
