  1. Yeah, it made the story interesting. But, if you didn't know anything about Celiac before tonight. And you saw the show....then a month from now you meet someone who says "I have Celiac" What would your thoughts be??? I don't know, I just wish they had concentrated on the weight loss or something. I lost 5 lbs/wk no matter what I ate, for 8 straight...
  2. But they said that her lunacy was a result of a lack of niacin in the blood ....or something like that.
  3. They did do a decent but very brief job of explaining the malabsorption. I'm disappointed. I really wish Celiac had not been portrayed as causing baby-killing psychosis. How often do you hear of that. And yet, what does it make the unelightened think? Celiacs are nutcases. I'm not.
  4. I don't know about the Caramel Rice Cakes but I ate the "plain" Mother's rice cakes. I loved them and had no problems. Then I got scared about CC with Quaker that I keep reading about and gave them up. They were my favorite.
  5. I have soy and dairy intolerances. I work around the dairy thing by avoidance of cheese, yogurt, etc. For milk I use Vance's DariFree on my cereal and for cooking. Others here have the same intolerances and hopefully will have more suggestions. With a 3 yr. old, I'm not sure what the recommendations would be. Additional intolerances definitely make a...

Welcome! As a member just since December, let me say, you're in the right place. I've never found an online forum that was so helpful and worth my time. Ask whatever questions you have. This is a "there are no dumb questions" environment.

  8. Wheat Thins???? You have a recipe similar to Wheat Thins???? That was my favorite cracker pre-gluten-free....The Wheat Thin display is the only place in the grocery that I still stumble and salivate. Please share!
  9. Welcome! Sounds like whether you have Celiac or not, you're certainly gluten-intolerant. Whatever your tests reveal, welcome to this board and to the gluten-free life.
  10. Best of luck to you in your pursuits, Bridgit. Yes, we're all in this together. The only place my view differs from yours is that I haven't witnessed very many posts where one member attacked another. Occassionally, but it's been extremely rare. I find this a very supportive board and why I keep coming back. This board celebrates successes and surrounds...
  11. I hope you get somewhere with your contacting the company, but what Molly is saying is correct. Technically-speaking oats themselves are gluten-free. Combine that with the fact that in the US we have no laws governing "gluten-free" labels, and I'm not sure that you'll get a lot of satisfaction from the company. I hope you do, but it's definitely a buyer...

    ARCHIVED New

Welcome! I just found this place when I was diagnosed in December. You'll find it's a warm group of people. As Nini said, ask anything. This board relieved the "overwhelmed" feeling I had at diagnosis.
  13. Barely brushing the skin and having pain sounds like nerve damage. Perhaps a nerve entrapped in a small amt of scar tissue. Disclaimer: I'm not in the medical profession. Having had injuries, however, that resulted temporarily in similar pain, that's just what came to my mind. I'd definitely get to someone who can help answer that for you.
  14. Do you follow the recipe exactly or make adjustments? I found that the biscuits have a great taste, but positively, absolutely fall to pieces. My dh just picked up one of these mixes for the first time yesterday. Do you use it for regular bread? We have 1 GFP french bread mix. What do you suggest?
  15. Yes, and I am definitely fairly early in the Celiac diagnosis about 4 1/2 mos. I really thought hard about this and even asked the dr. "Ok, so it doesn't work now. It's not going to work any better when you take it out. I'm at 0% either way." And, I really considered that somewhere along in the intestinal healing, my gallbladder may start to function...
  16. Thank you for sharing your story. You've obviously been a fighter from the beginning! How grateful you must be for your loving and determined parents and how blessed they must feel to have you. To borrow a phrase from the Lance Armstrong Foundation.... Live Strong!

    ARCHIVED Radio Interview

Nini, that was awesome!!! About an hour's worth of intelligent discussion on Celiac and gluten intolerance. Woo hoo. Yeah, made me hungry talking about the good foods we have available. btw, what biscuit did you say you like? Thanks for doing all of us a huge favor
  18. Ok, today is 4 days post-op. I'm feeling pretty good. Sore. But more alert, and ready to do something that will engage my mind, although not my body just yet. Last night I even slept well without the benefit of pain med. Yesterday was a bad day, but it was more a general feeling of illness, than pain. Today is better again. No serious digestive...
  19. I've been reading this thread with interest, although it doesn't fit my circumstances. I was diagnosed with Celiac in Dec '05. I just had my gallbladder removed earlier this week. I didn't have stones, my gallbladder just didn't function at all...0%. In my case, the Celiac seems to have triggered the lack of gallbladder function since the damaged small...
  20. I haven't cheated at all since being diagnosed. I remember my "last supper" well, however. It was a Friday nite and dh called and said, "Why don't I pick up some ribs from..... on my way home?" Now, I'd been having gi issues for months, and was dropping 5 lbs a week without knowing why. All tests were coming back negative. This place is well known for...

    ARCHIVED Radio Interview

Open Original Shared Link I don't have any experience with this particular piece of software, but it looks simple enough and promising for this particular purpose. I'm assuming, Nini, that you're talking, not singing, so the quality issue a few reviewers noted probably would not be as obvious.
  22. You'll get it soon enough...sorry. It feels that way because of the abdominal muscles..I have 4 small incisions. 1 through my belly button and 3 in upper rt quadrant of abdomen. Doc said that Friday I can shower and allow the bandages to wash off. I've had no pain med today so far. Getting sore as the day wears on, and will probably give in and take...

    ARCHIVED Radio Interview

Nini, that is SOOO cool!! Yes, the streaming from that station seems to work. I went to the link and gave it a go. Note to other non-IE users: I did have to switch from my default browser, Firefox, to the recommended IE. Worked seamlessly in IE. This is stated on the wgunam.com page, however. Hey, could someone bump this thread early sat. a.m. so...
  24. I've read where several of you are having gall bladder problems and facing possible gall bladder removal. You may have read a couple of weeks ago where I was having problems, and a gb functioning test showed that my gb did not function at all. zip. zero. I consulted with 3 drs. all of whom agreed it needed to be removed promptly to avoid pancreatitis...
